00:00 - 00:01
Hi, everyone.
00:01 - 00:03
This is just a short presentation.
00:04 - 00:07
Thio bring together some of the things that we've got
00:07 - 00:10
available to support our mental health in these challenging times,
00:10 - 00:13
eh? So I'm just going to quickly run through this
00:13 - 00:14
presentation on Dhe.
00:14 - 00:16
Hopefully you'll get something out of it.
00:17 - 00:19
So your well being is of the utmost important to
00:19 - 00:21
us. They are strange times.
00:22 - 00:24
We have had a large increase in the stresses that
00:24 - 00:26
we deal with on a day to day basis, both
00:26 - 00:28
in school Onda at home.
00:28 - 00:30
On these come take their toll if you don't find
00:31 - 00:31
ways to manage them.
00:31 - 00:35
So hopefully the short presentation will provide some avenues that
00:35 - 00:37
you can explore on dhe.
00:37 - 00:40
Find ways to de stress and to calm yourself.
00:41 - 00:44
When you find yourself in that anxious situation, remember, everyone's
00:45 - 00:47
different and they may express their anxieties in different ways.
00:48 - 00:50
And everybody at the Prince of World School is ready
00:50 - 00:52
to support each other in any way that we can.
00:54 - 00:59
Oh, being mindful and mindfulness is a huge thing, and
00:59 - 01:01
if you can get it to work for you, it
01:01 - 01:04
can really give you time for your brain to process
01:04 - 01:05
everything that's going on.
01:05 - 01:08
it can give you time to sort things out to
01:09 - 01:11
de stress and to move forward from those things that
01:11 - 01:12
might seem big in the moment.
01:13 - 01:15
There are lots of different ways to do this, and
01:16 - 01:19
you know what works best for you, which things you
01:19 - 01:22
prefer to do but do make sure you find time
01:23 - 01:25
for yourself every day on, even if that's only a
01:25 - 01:26
few minutes.
01:26 - 01:27
Just time to yourself.
01:27 - 01:30
To think about you is really, really important in these
01:31 - 01:37
times. Time to switch off, not think about what you're
01:37 - 01:39
getting for dinner or what the Children are up thio
01:39 - 01:42
or what you've got planned for tomorrow, or making the
01:42 - 01:45
next video to show to the Children.
01:46 - 01:49
Make sure it's just time thinking about you or thinking
01:49 - 01:52
about something completely different or getting lost in a book,
01:53 - 01:55
something that's going to help you switch off from the
01:55 - 01:56
day to day.
01:58 - 01:59
Make sure you have time to sleep.
02:00 - 02:02
I know we try and burn the candle at both
02:02 - 02:05
ends to get everything done in our occupation, but you
02:06 - 02:07
do need time to rest.
02:07 - 02:09
You do need time to relax, and your brain needs
02:09 - 02:12
time to recharge and reset itself for the next day,
02:13 - 02:16
actually, with reference to sleep.
02:17 - 02:19
I have this analogy once about a mobile phone.
02:20 - 02:24
Um, it's as if your brain is a mobile phone,
02:24 - 02:28
and it goes through cycles in your sleep on each
02:28 - 02:30
cycle. Loss for about two hours.
02:32 - 02:35
So the first two cycles of sleeps in the first
02:35 - 02:39
four hours of sleep, your brain will spend recharging its
02:39 - 02:42
batteries like a mobile phone on the second two cycles.
02:43 - 02:46
Asleep. The last four hours is where your brain commits
02:47 - 02:51
all your memories in your in your head to to
02:51 - 02:54
memory. It commits, commits all the things that happened and
02:54 - 02:56
processes everything that's happened in that day on.
02:57 - 02:59
If you cut your sleep short, it's often that time
03:00 - 03:02
of processing that it cuts down on.
03:02 - 03:05
So those stresses and strains and things from the previous
03:05 - 03:08
day. If you don't get enough sleep, they're still going
03:08 - 03:09
to be there the following day.
03:09 - 03:11
So try and get your eight hours if you possibly
03:12 - 03:14
can. And if you can't sleep at least spending time
03:15 - 03:19
relaxing for those eight hours, Um, on doing something for
03:19 - 03:21
you is really, really important.
03:23 - 03:25
Time for hobbies as well.
03:25 - 03:29
Um, having time where you could do something that takes
03:29 - 03:33
your brain off the hook is really good, something you
03:34 - 03:38
could get lost in and something that you enjoy also
03:39 - 03:42
exercising. Getting outside if you can on releasing some endorphins
03:43 - 03:44
will really help you to make fit.
03:45 - 03:46
You feel a little bit better.
03:49 - 03:51
Breathing techniques could be used as a variety of breathing
03:51 - 03:57
techniques. Diaphragmatic breathing is the best way to get air
03:58 - 03:59
into your body and to make you feel relaxed.
04:00 - 04:02
So if you put your hand on your tummy and
04:02 - 04:04
you actually feel your tummy moving in and out, you
04:05 - 04:07
know that the breathing is helping you.
04:07 - 04:12
Um, so I came across this chap up a Hardee's
04:12 - 04:14
on one of our training sessions who was talking about
04:15 - 04:16
7 11 breathing as well.
04:17 - 04:19
This is where you breathe in for seven on out
04:19 - 04:21
for 11 on dhe.
04:21 - 04:26
It engages the parasympathetic system in your brain and let
04:26 - 04:27
everything calm down.
04:28 - 04:33
It goes back toe cave man times when the flight
04:33 - 04:35
or fight response would kick in.
04:35 - 04:39
But if you're breathing, you're breathing out more than your
04:39 - 04:39
breathing in.
04:40 - 04:43
It puts you into a state of relaxation, so those
04:44 - 04:46
those flight or fight responses go away and it comes
04:46 - 04:47
your body down.
04:47 - 04:49
So even if you could do it, just for a
04:49 - 04:52
minute a day that is gonna really help.
04:54 - 04:56
Meditation is something else that you can do.
04:56 - 04:59
Just spending some time thinking about something different or trying
04:59 - 05:02
to empty your mind from all those thoughts that are
05:02 - 05:03
always racing around in it.
05:03 - 05:04
A really good.
05:04 - 05:06
There are different avenues you can explore here.
05:07 - 05:09
There's YouTube clips of various things that you can watch,
05:10 - 05:14
including stream like meditation, where lights blasted at you out
05:14 - 05:14
of the screen.
05:15 - 05:15
Try it.
05:15 - 05:17
You never know until you try it.
05:17 - 05:21
Another thing is creating your own safe place in your
05:21 - 05:25
meditations, where you can go and have a LH.
05:25 - 05:28
The things that you, um, enjoy on dhe make you
05:28 - 05:30
feel calm and relaxed on dhe.
05:30 - 05:32
That is something to practice on.
05:33 - 05:35
Dhe to really get to grips with works really, really
05:35 - 05:40
well, grounding yourself, thinking about where you are in the
05:40 - 05:43
moment in time, thinking about the sights, the sounds, the
05:43 - 05:47
smells, the tastes, the touch, um, really stop you from
05:48 - 05:49
getting into that panic state.
05:49 - 05:53
So if you really are in a heightened sense of
05:53 - 05:58
worry and anxiety, then grounding yourself and thinking about the
05:58 - 05:59
now is really important.
06:00 - 06:04
I know Tracy and I have put boxes together for
06:05 - 06:08
Children with various different things in that encourages them to
06:08 - 06:12
ground themselves in the moment with feely things and and
06:12 - 06:13
smelly things on.
06:13 - 06:14
It really does work.
06:17 - 06:19
Moving on to managing your time Now, A lot of
06:19 - 06:21
the things that I've just talked about do take up
06:21 - 06:22
your time on Dhe.
06:22 - 06:24
We all know that a lot of what we duel
06:24 - 06:26
boils down to time and how we use it.
06:27 - 06:29
So do try and dedicate at least a few minutes
06:29 - 06:33
of your time each day to yourself, even if it's
06:33 - 06:35
just a dog walk or just before you go to
06:35 - 06:38
bed, when the only priority is you on what you
06:39 - 06:40
want to use your time for.
06:40 - 06:44
So please ask a member of the team if you're
06:45 - 06:46
struggling to find time for yourself.
06:47 - 06:50
We all understand that these are not normal times, and
06:50 - 06:52
we can't expect business as usual.
06:52 - 06:54
So please talk to someone if you need to take
06:54 - 06:57
a break at any point during the day or, you
06:57 - 06:59
know if you just want to chat in the evening
07:03 - 07:05
talking sharing and being there for each other is what
07:06 - 07:07
we have to do in these times.
07:07 - 07:11
Sometimes we don't feel we want to burden others with
07:11 - 07:12
our problems or even know where to start.
07:13 - 07:16
But we do understand everybody that it's okay not to
07:17 - 07:17
be okay.
07:17 - 07:20
And we are all in this together so you can
07:20 - 07:21
talk to your friends.
07:21 - 07:23
You can talk to family, you can talk to colleagues,
07:24 - 07:27
teams. You can talk to anyone in the S l
07:27 - 07:29
t Anyone from the all star team.
07:30 - 07:33
Tracy and I I roll on hand on DOF course.
07:34 - 07:36
If you're in one of those teams, please talk to
07:36 - 07:36
each other as well.
07:37 - 07:41
Um, you can talk in person and the wonder of
07:41 - 07:45
technology that it is now any form of messaging we
07:45 - 07:50
are there on We are listening on.
07:50 - 07:51
Listening is so important.
07:51 - 07:54
We don't always know in the moment Thea answers or
07:54 - 07:57
look us about answers Wrong are going correct that immediately.
07:58 - 08:01
But a problem shared is a problem halved on dhe.
08:01 - 08:03
We are all listening ears.
08:03 - 08:06
So share if you need thio, take time and have
08:06 - 08:07
compassion for yourself.
08:08 - 08:09
Andi each other on.
08:09 - 08:12
Of course, That's second nature to UAL Bean in the
08:12 - 08:18
education game, Being compassionate is not just about being compassionate
08:18 - 08:19
to each other.
08:19 - 08:22
We are our own worst critics and often over analyze
08:23 - 08:26
our every thought indeed, especially as educators were used to
08:27 - 08:29
evaluating our practice and thinking how we could do it
08:30 - 08:30
better next time.
08:31 - 08:34
But being compassionate to yourself is Justus important as being
08:34 - 08:35
compassionate to others?
08:36 - 08:38
First of all, what you need to do each day
08:38 - 08:41
is say something nice to yourself and then go on.
08:42 - 08:51
Treat yourself last but not least, if you still need
08:51 - 08:54
support, there are lots of different avenues you can explore
08:55 - 08:59
your GP, although it's difficult to see them in person
08:59 - 09:02
these days is available through phone or email.
09:03 - 09:08
There's a counseling surface available through the Dorchester Trust for
09:08 - 09:11
counseling on their offering free counseling for a lke.
09:12 - 09:14
Workers endorse it, which will consist of six sessions.
09:15 - 09:22

09:23 - 09:26

09:34 - 09:34
that you need that.
09:35 - 09:38

09:38 - 09:39
workplace insurance.
09:40 - 09:43
I have the phone number, um, which I will pop
09:43 - 09:44
onto this presentation.
09:45 - 09:48
Actually, I'll pop it onto a piece of paper with
09:48 - 09:51
some of the ideas about meditation and things that I've
09:52 - 09:53
got so that you all have that.
09:54 - 09:54
Should you need it?
09:55 - 09:58
Also, your union support surfaces and your union's website will
09:59 - 09:59
offer the latest support.
10:01 - 10:03
Um, that's available to you through them on.
10:03 - 10:06
There's also really useful website, which is called education support.
10:07 - 10:13

10:21 - 10:23
