00:01 - 00:03
ever since we were little, we've always been told to
00:04 - 00:04
eat our vegetables.
00:05 - 00:07
But as we get older and we went to the
00:07 - 00:08
grocery store we could buy whatever he wanted.
00:09 - 00:09
Lots of us.
00:09 - 00:11
Forgotten vegetables even existed.
00:12 - 00:14
Hi, I'm claire acosta and I love vegetables.
00:15 - 00:17
And I'm here today to show you some delicious and
00:18 - 00:20
yummy ways to incorporate vegetables into your diet.
00:20 - 00:22
All you need is the right information, the right tools
00:23 - 00:23
and the right ingredients.
00:25 - 00:27
Some of you may be wondering are vegetables really that
00:27 - 00:29
important here is the study.
00:29 - 00:31
There was a study done in 2019 by the National
00:32 - 00:35
Institute of Health about plant based diets.
00:35 - 00:38
I'm not gonna g go totally plant based, but I
00:39 - 00:42
do think that this article really provides some insight on
00:42 - 00:44
the benefits of any more vegetables in general.
00:45 - 00:47
Here is one of the photos I took from the
00:48 - 00:51
article but I realized it has a lot of medical
00:51 - 00:54
jargon. So I'm just going to skip to zoom into
00:54 - 00:56
the bottom left hand corner where it has some overall
00:57 - 00:57
health markers.
00:58 - 01:01
Um a lower body mass index, meaning less fat in
01:01 - 01:04
your body, which leads to um lower risk for obesity
01:05 - 01:08
as well as cardiovascular disease, which is the number one
01:08 - 01:11
killer in America and a lower risk for diabetes also
01:12 - 01:15
lower risk for all cause mortality, meaning just a longer
01:15 - 01:18
lifespan and a lower risk for certain types of cancer.
01:19 - 01:21
So obviously those are all great things.
01:22 - 01:25
And now that you know the reason to eat more
01:25 - 01:28
vegetables, we can go right into which vegetables to eat
01:28 - 01:32
because not everybody loves all vegetables here on this top.
01:32 - 01:36
We have some root vegetables, carrots, beets and I'm actually
01:36 - 01:39
not sure what those other ones are embarrassingly enough.
01:40 - 01:42
And those are really great for roasting.
01:42 - 01:44
Also have some leafy greens.
01:44 - 01:46
There in the middle is arugula, which is my personal
01:47 - 01:52
favorite. Those are really great for salads or smoothies and
01:52 - 01:53
salads are not your thing.
01:53 - 01:55
We also have some squash here.
01:55 - 01:59
This is just winter squash, but there is uh summer
01:59 - 02:01
squash, like zucchini, which I will show you how to
02:01 - 02:04
turn into noodles in the next slide.
02:05 - 02:06
So I know what you're thinking.
02:06 - 02:09
You come home with bags full of groceries and bags
02:09 - 02:11
full of vegetables and you're like, what do I do
02:11 - 02:11
with all these vegetables?
02:12 - 02:14
I can't just sit here and eat them like a
02:14 - 02:18
rabbit. Luckily I have some ideas for you.
02:18 - 02:21
Like I said, roasting root vegetables is a great, great
02:21 - 02:23
way to incorporate them into your diet.
02:24 - 02:26
All you need is an oven and a cookie sheet,
02:26 - 02:27
which pretty much everybody has.
02:28 - 02:31
I like to add olive oil and oregano onto my
02:32 - 02:34
um root vegetables.
02:35 - 02:38
Also, salads and smoothies are super great for leafy greens
02:39 - 02:42
if you're not into If you're not into salads, I
02:42 - 02:47
like to add pineapple and banana into my green smoothies
02:47 - 02:49
to kind of hide that levi taste.
02:50 - 02:52
And squash is super versatile.
02:53 - 02:56
You can roast it, you can grill it or you
02:56 - 02:58
can turn it into noodles with something called a spiral
02:58 - 03:00
Isar, which I will show you how to use.
03:00 - 03:02
I have one right here, it's a little handheld one
03:03 - 03:07
and you just put the zucchini right in here and
03:07 - 03:11
you spin it like that and then the noodles come
03:12 - 03:14
right out and you can just add marinara sauce to
03:15 - 03:17
it or your favorite sauce, marinara is my favorite sauce.
03:18 - 03:20
So that's the example that I used there.
03:22 - 03:22
Uh huh.
03:23 - 03:25
So now that you have a little bit more information
03:26 - 03:29
on why vegetables are important as well as some ideas
03:29 - 03:32
on which ones to buy and some ideas on how
03:33 - 03:34
to incorporate them into your diet.
03:35 - 03:37
Um you are well on your way to sticking it
03:37 - 03:40
to your parents and eating more vegetables really.
03:41 - 03:44
Most importantly it's just just to keep trying um there
03:44 - 03:46
is going to be, I have definitely made nasty recipes
03:47 - 03:49
before and things that I didn't like.
03:50 - 03:51
You just got to keep trying and just remember that
03:51 - 03:54
this is all for the benefit of your body.
03:55 - 03:58
Also pro tip the more colors in your vegetable variety,
03:59 - 04:02
the more nutrients thank you guys so much and remember
04:02 - 04:03
to eat your vegetables
