  1. welcome to introduction to Nursing.
  2. In this course, I hope that we will be covering
  3. these spheres of the profession.
  4. This is my way of interpreting our learner outcomes in
  5. a way that I think is more friendly and, um,
  6. explains why we're going to be doing the units that
  7. we're doing you.
  8. After viewing this video, you are asked to make a
  9. comment to tell me where in the video it peaked
  10. your interest and you're hoping toe learn mawr or looking
  11. forward to doing that aspect of this course.
  12. All right, so let's get started.
  13. Why a baccalaureate education?
  14. So a baccalaureate degree affords you more longevity in your
  15. career and more leadership opportunities and growth as you become
  16. a nurse, the American Nurses Association and state boards of
  17. nursing. Their desire is to grow all nurses into at
  18. least being baccalaureate prepared.
  19. But you know, historically, because of the urgency of the
  20. times, nursing has always, um, may do by trying to
  21. turn out nurses to meet the need.
  22. And that's why an associates degree is also a very
  23. effective way, but it doesn't of becoming a professional nurse,
  24. but it doesn't necessarily give you the bigger background so
  25. that you can draw from or, oh, bodies of knowledge
  26. to be able to have good, critical thinking, tackling hard
  27. questions so that you can actually look at the situation.
  28. Look at what your patient needs.
  29. Look at what the community needs and then customize your
  30. plan of care with your background of knowledge in mind.
  31. So next we look at the history and theory of
  32. nursing, what good is a profession if it does not
  33. understand where it came from, or the theories that shape
  34. and define it?
  35. I am hoping that you as well prepared to nurses,
  36. will have, at least in exposure to the theories that
  37. shape us and possibly you'll be extending the theory as
  38. you grow up in your profession.
  39. And I think we will try to touch on the
  40. current context of the global pandemic because this is a
  41. time like no other in history.
  42. The ethics and accountability looks like there's a lot of
  43. bullet points here, but basically we want to make sure
  44. that you're accountable, that you're safe, that you're competent, and
  45. we're going to think about those things when we think
  46. about what it is to be a nurse patient centered
  47. care. All of you are considering a career in nursing
  48. because it's about the patient.
  49. And nursing.
  50. Like no other profession really has called this the reason
  51. we function.
  52. So what does that mean?
  53. Good intentions and earnestness is not enough.
  54. So patient centered care will incorporate some of these things
  55. cultural, spiritual, competency, health, literacy.
  56. So, thinking about what your patient is able to take
  57. in instead of just blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, talking
  58. at, um And then there's some special considerations with different
  59. populations, such as the young and the elderly.
  60. And we'll touch on end of life care.
  61. And because of these times, we're gonna also make sure
  62. that we consider what it is for us as nurses
  63. and also for our patients.
  64. Thio just have good self care practices.
  65. Um, lastly, we'll also be talking about complementary and alternative
  66. medicine as things that that piqued the public's interest.
  67. But what does science say?
  68. Okay, so when a thank you for your attention, and
  69. I'm looking forward to hearing what you're thinking about this
  70. course. Okay.
  71. See you
