  1. what's up, y'all.
  2. So today I'm gonna teach you how to play the
  3. corner position in football.
  4. So most of y'all might not know, but cornerback is
  5. a position you playing football.
  6. Um There's many positions that go into playing the sport,
  7. this quarterback that most people know.
  8. Um wide receiver that's with the quarterback does to the
  9. online blocks with QB.
  10. But on the defensive side there's a cornerback.
  11. Cornerback basically guards the wide receivers and make sure they
  12. just, they don't catch the ball or they don't block
  13. them successfully for making it for making a tackle basically.
  14. So it's one of the hardest positions to play behind
  15. QB. And you have to be very disciplined and like
  16. you have to practice your technique like a lot.
  17. So the first thing is how you should line up
  18. whenever you're lining up at cornerback, you should uh you
  19. should you should always line on the line up on
  20. the inside of the wide receiver.
  21. So you should put your outside foot on his inside
  22. foot, lined up with his inside foot.
  23. So you can always keep that inside leverage.
  24. Because cornerbacks, they basically guard the outside receivers and they
  25. don't have much space to work with on the outside.
  26. So if you have inside leverage on them, then if
  27. they come inside, you can get hands on them and
  28. force them to the outside.
  29. So make sure they don't have much space or work
  30. with to catch the ball.
  31. And then this is basically how it's gonna look like
  32. his, I can't really get the angle.
  33. So if you're offering me covers, there's a wide receiver
  34. in front of you, you got to put your output
  35. uh your outside foot in front of your inside foot
  36. just a little bit and then I can't really get
  37. because it might be but put your outside foot in
  38. front back foot back here and have this foot lined
  39. up with his inside foot so you keep inside the
  40. so you get a low a little bit, sit down.
  41. Most people act like they're squatting have dropped their hands,
  42. that's the proper stance, I can't really do it right
  43. because my knee, so you're just gonna bear with me.
  44. So that's how you should line up and if they
  45. get inside of you, you just have to get hands
  46. on them and follow them throughout the route.
  47. And then if they get outside of you then keep
  48. them outside, keep pushing towards the sidelines.
  49. So the quarterback has to make a harder throw, has
  50. to make it on the money.
  51. Uh huh pre snap reads.
  52. So after you line up, you know how to line
  53. up now now and if you're making your reads, sometimes
  54. your receiver sometimes the most outside receiver might not be
  55. towards closer to the sideline, might be closer to the
  56. QB. So if he learns up closer to the QB
  57. or closer to the Cuban than usual then you should
  58. be thinking, oh it might be outside breaking route, right?
  59. So while you're keeping your inside leverage as you're backpedaling
  60. or before he had snapped the ball, you should be
  61. thinking the possible roxy might run, so you might run
  62. a fade which is where he just runs straight and
  63. runs to the outside, closer to the sideline and looks
  64. back and then he might be running a corner out
  65. where he runs straight and it kind of cuts up
  66. at an angle and goes towards the bottom corner of
  67. the end zone and then he might have a comeback
  68. when he runs straight and then comes back down and
  69. turns completely around.
  70. So if he's if he's closer to the quarterback than
  71. usual, then you should already be thinking, oh he might
  72. have an outside breaking route.
  73. So even even if you even if you have inside
  74. leverage, just always have that in the back of your
  75. mind after the play is going as he's running towards
  76. you, he might go outside, he might go outside, so
  77. bam if he goes outside, you ready for that, just
  78. take off the following.
  79. So that's basically what it is for the pre snap
  80. reads. Uh So your first nets?
  81. No, now you're not a line up, you know what
  82. your reeds are.
  83. Now after the ball is snapped you basically I told
  84. you how your feet should be.
  85. So your feet should be, your outside foot should be
  86. up in your inside foot should be back, so should
  87. be lined up like this, inside inside of them, back
  88. up like this, you don't want to move your arms
  89. like this because then your feet, you're gonna kick that,
  90. that's gonna make you slow.
  91. So you gotta calm hands quick backpedals and you should
  92. be back pedaling as fast as the receiver is running
  93. towards you.
  94. So if he's sprinting, you gotta if you if you're
  95. coming off the line soft, you got to be slow
  96. because if he stops and goes back to towards the
  97. QB, you've got to run and get you to me.
  98. So yeah, those are your first steps and then if
  99. he breaks your cushion, meaning if he gets within four
  100. yards of you, then you need to be starting to
  101. turn a little bit.
  102. So you need to be getting out of your back
  103. pedal into phase with the wide receiver.
  104. So when you're turning, you're on his hip and he's
  105. not breaking your cushion and not getting ahead of you
  106. because the main thing about being a quarterback, you have
  107. to be on top of receiver at all times.
  108. So you can always make a play on the ball.
  109. All right.
  110. So you backpedal, you did everything right?
  111. You're turning got hands on them.
  112. But now the main thing is staying phase and be
  113. disciplined. You cannot take your eyes off of the water
  114. receivers hips because his hips tells you where he's going,
  115. he can the receiver can be doing all this stuff
  116. for this feed all this fancy stuff.
  117. He could be trying to joke you all that.
  118. But if you look at his hips, that always tells
  119. you where he's going.
  120. So he he should never get like you should never
  121. get from like on top of them.
  122. Like you should always be on top of the receiver
  123. if you're watching his hips and he does this little
  124. juke move, you know, he's going that way so just
  125. follow him that way.
  126. So that's just what staying disciplined is like don't take
  127. your eyes off of the receiver, keep your eyes on
  128. the receiver, keep keep your eyes on his hips.
  129. And then as you're coming out of your back and
  130. turning once, once the receiver pictures direction that he's going,
  131. you wanna turn staying phase alright, still in the hips
  132. and then turn like this, you want to push off
  133. your uh you're gonna push off the inside foot.
  134. So if he breaks outside then you want to push
  135. off this foot right here and turn like that.
  136. If he breaks inside you wanna well if you if
  137. you have inside leverage you should be getting hands on
  138. that so you should already be on top of it.
  139. So you're already in face.
  140. And basically what being in phase means while he was
  141. running your your out and he already gets you out
  142. of your back pedal and you turn being invaded basically
  143. means you have you're able to touch his hip and
  144. you're able to keep your hand on his hip.
  145. So if you're in phase and you see his eyes
  146. looking back, that's how you know he's getting for the
  147. ball, his eyes might get wide all of that because
  148. you don't want to look back because if you look
  149. back you're gonna lose him.
  150. You always gonna keep your eyes on the receiver.
  151. So once you're in phase you're out of your back
  152. pedal, you have your hand on your hip, you see
  153. him, you see him running, he's looking back now, you
  154. know the balls come.
  155. So if you are in phase you want to play
  156. late cause receivers are taught to put their hands up
  157. like so if you are in phase after, after a
  158. little bit, after a few seconds now you're able to
  159. look back to see where the ball is.
  160. That so you can make a play on the ball
  161. because you're feeling face and you might be able to
  162. get interception Now now uh whenever whenever it comes to
  163. man defense there's man defensive zone defense, just like basketball,
  164. this man defenses on defense.
  165. So if you're in phase and the ball and you
  166. know that the receivers looking back for the ball and
  167. you're in man defense if if I'm backpedaling and he
  168. breaks outside of me like this way and I'm turning
  169. like this to him now I'm in face, hands on
  170. him now I'm looking at him, he looks back football,
  171. I'm running and I'm and I'm looking like this, I'm
  172. not looking at this, yes, since this man coverage, I
  173. have to keep my eyes on on the man.
  174. So I'm turning towards him looking for the ball.
  175. Now if I'm zone then I can look back this
  176. way. It doesn't really matter because I just don't.
  177. So that's basically what it is.
  178. You got to stay disciplined at those uh tactics and
  179. all that.
  180. You can't you can't look off of his hips, you
  181. can't look anywhere else.
  182. You gotta you gotta stay on top of you feel
  183. so uh oh wait actually, and then if your auto
  184. phase then you can't look back at all.
  185. If you can't touch his hips and you can't like
  186. if you're not on top of them close to them
  187. like this and you can't touch his hips and like
  188. grab onto his jersey a little bit, then you have
  189. to just chase him, can't look back and once he
  190. puts his hands up, don't look back at all.
  191. If you can't touch him, don't look back at all.
  192. And once he goes up to catch the ball, just
  193. play his hands as quick as possible, just break up
  194. the past because pass breakups are worth a lot because
  195. interceptions are hard to get because again D.
  196. B. Is one of the hardest positions to playing football
  197. because it's a guessing game and then give effort and
  198. make a place.
  199. So no matter how it is, if you're on top
  200. of them, not on top of them, if you're in
  201. face, not in phase and uh just just give effort
  202. and make a play on the ball.
  203. Either way, you gotta make an interception, you gotta make
  204. a tackle, you gotta gotta do something, break, break up
  205. the past, so, so that's pretty much all it is.
