00:01 - 00:01
Hello, everyone.
00:02 - 00:06
My name is Dorcas Magic Academy and welcome to my
00:06 - 00:07
leadership portfolio.
00:09 - 00:12
So first of all, what is leadership?
00:15 - 00:18
So to me, leadership has been present.
00:20 - 00:25
Um, even if it's just holding hands just being present
00:26 - 00:31
for people being present in people's life and also leadership
00:31 - 00:33
is making a positive impact.
00:35 - 00:38
And to do this, you don't necessarily have to be
00:38 - 00:39
in somebody's life.
00:40 - 00:44
Actively think of the leaders that you look up to,
00:45 - 00:48
um, on T V and the news and politics.
00:50 - 00:53
Those people are not actively present in your life, but
00:54 - 00:55
they do make a positive impact.
00:58 - 01:04
Now, my definition of Day one leadership is approaching every
01:04 - 01:06
day like it's your first day as a leader.
01:08 - 01:11
You know, doing everything that same excitement that you feel
01:11 - 01:14
on day one of going back to school or starting
01:15 - 01:15
a new job.
01:16 - 01:21
Um, approaching leadership or approaching whatever you do, um, being
01:22 - 01:26
the kind of leader that you would you you think
01:26 - 01:28
that you would like to be on your day one.
01:33 - 01:36
Now we're going to go over my mission statement.
01:40 - 01:42
I pledge to be the best I can be.
01:43 - 01:46
I will live a life filled with love and happiness.
01:47 - 01:50
I will live a life that impact others positively.
01:52 - 01:56
My future is bright, and my ability to succeed has
01:56 - 01:56
no limit.
01:57 - 02:00
I am a star, and I will shine to help
02:00 - 02:10
me. God, uh, my mission statement comes from, you know,
02:10 - 02:13
the kind of future that I envisioned for myself.
02:13 - 02:16
The kind of life that I want to live every
02:16 - 02:20
day, the kind of intentions that I have for myself
02:23 - 02:27
and, um my kind of my leadership style, my leadership
02:28 - 02:32
style is being present, you know, having building great relationships
02:33 - 02:37
with people, having a great connection with people.
02:38 - 02:43
And, um, from that break connection helping people to be
02:43 - 02:43
their true self.
02:45 - 02:49
Um, I love, you know, relating with people and them
02:49 - 02:52
not feeling like they have to pretend around me.
02:52 - 02:55
I like people just hoping up and being their true
02:56 - 02:57
self around me.
02:57 - 02:58
That's my style of leadership.
02:59 - 03:00
My strength.
03:01 - 03:02
I'm open minded.
03:03 - 03:05
I like to build things from different perspective.
03:06 - 03:08
I'd like to think of different scenarios.
03:09 - 03:11
I like to think of different people and how they
03:11 - 03:14
approach different things and try to understand people.
03:15 - 03:17
I am a very loyal person.
03:18 - 03:20
Um, I'm very loyal to a fault.
03:21 - 03:24
like I am very territorial with my friends.
03:24 - 03:26
All my friends know this.
03:26 - 03:27
My family notice.
03:28 - 03:29
Um, I'm a very passionate person.
03:30 - 03:33
When I get interested in something, I get really deep
03:34 - 03:37
and intense and, yeah, my passion is really strong.
03:38 - 03:40
I am very self aware.
03:41 - 03:45
Um, I've taken the time to study myself to understand
03:45 - 03:47
myself. I'm still studying myself.
03:48 - 03:50
I really enjoy discovering things about myself.
03:50 - 03:53
I think that the more I'm able to understand myself,
03:54 - 03:58
the more I'm able to help other people understand, Understand
03:59 - 04:03
theirselves. Um, understanding myself means that I know who I
04:03 - 04:06
am, and I'm being attentive.
04:07 - 04:11
And that helps me to also move I had in
04:11 - 04:14
life and another another.
04:15 - 04:18
One of my strength is, um I do have great
04:18 - 04:22
relationships. I have I'm able to build relationships with the
04:22 - 04:23
people in my life.
04:24 - 04:27
I like to have honest conversations, so that helps me
04:27 - 04:29
to build great relationships.
04:30 - 04:32
Um, the areas that I do think that I need
04:33 - 04:35
improvement would be, um, decisiveness.
04:37 - 04:40
I can be pretty indecisive at times, and that comes
04:40 - 04:42
from you know, when you're able to view things from
04:42 - 04:45
different perspectives, it can be difficult to like make choices
04:47 - 04:51
and the second thing, um, that I also need to
04:51 - 04:52
work on would be perseverance.
04:54 - 04:58
I kind of I usually have, like, a lot of
04:58 - 04:59
interest in different things.
04:59 - 05:03
So it's easy for me to lose interest in things
05:03 - 05:08
which can result to me not persevering and seeing things
05:09 - 05:10
to an end.
05:11 - 05:16
So basically, now the leaders that I do look up
05:16 - 05:21
to the leaders that that I, um, identify with would
05:21 - 05:23
be the number one.
05:23 - 05:26
The number one would definitely be Trevor Noah.
05:27 - 05:29
And the reason that I really do identify with him
05:30 - 05:33
is he is also an immigrant.
05:34 - 05:37
He grew up, it was born and he grew up
05:37 - 05:40
in South Africa, and I've been reading a story which
05:41 - 05:41
is really interesting.
05:42 - 05:46
I really connect with him the kind of childhood that
05:46 - 05:50
he had coming from that kind of childhood to, um,
05:50 - 05:56
you know, moving to the United States and making a
05:56 - 05:56
name for himself.
05:57 - 05:59
You know, it's really a story of grass to grace
06:01 - 06:03
and the kind of relationship he has with his.
06:03 - 06:05
With his mother, he hasn't really.
06:05 - 06:07
His mother was a really strong.
06:07 - 06:10
She is a really strong personality in his life, and
06:10 - 06:12
it's kind of the same for me to my mother
06:13 - 06:16
is, um, a really strong person in my life that,
06:17 - 06:18
you know, she's actively present for me.
06:19 - 06:21
So I definitely connect with that.
06:21 - 06:25
And I identify with that with Trevor Noah, another leader
06:26 - 06:29
that I identify with would be Oprah Winfrey.
06:30 - 06:34
I identify with the part of her that connects with
06:34 - 06:40
people, and, you know, she's able to feel a sense
06:40 - 06:42
of empathy so strong.
06:42 - 06:46
And she she's just someone that, you know you just
06:46 - 06:47
want to open up to.
06:47 - 06:49
And you want to tell everything about yourself.
06:50 - 06:56
The third person would be definitely Alexandra Ocasio Cortez.
06:56 - 07:00
I couldn't identify with a part of our that is
07:00 - 07:01
able to speak up.
07:01 - 07:01
That is outspoken.
07:03 - 07:03
That is passionate.
07:04 - 07:07
So I definitely do identify with that.
07:08 - 07:14
Um so going next, my achievement, values and leadership recognition.
07:15 - 07:17
So my achievements so far?
07:18 - 07:21
Um, well, one of my major achievements would be joining
07:21 - 07:25
the army that required a lot of courage, resilience and
07:25 - 07:29
perseverance. I tell you, the military is not a joke.
07:29 - 07:32
Um, so it really I had to really put in
07:32 - 07:34
my best, and that was that.
07:35 - 07:37
Still, you know, one thing that I'm so proud of,
07:37 - 07:42
Um, another one of achievement is taking the leadership courses.
07:43 - 07:46
Um, when when I was told about the leadership certificate,
07:47 - 07:50
I wasn't really I was kind of skeptical about it,
07:50 - 07:52
but I decided to keep the help of mind, you
07:52 - 07:56
know? And the journey has led me to, you know,
07:56 - 08:01
be more attentive to know myself to learn more about
08:01 - 08:06
myself. Basically, myself, awareness has increased and has improved so
08:07 - 08:11
much. Um, and the third of my achievement would be
08:11 - 08:13
supporting my family and friends.
08:13 - 08:15
I like to be there for my family and friends,
08:16 - 08:17
and this comes from a place of love.
08:18 - 08:23
Um, from generosity from having great relationships and being able
08:23 - 08:28
to build empathy, Uh, my core values, my core values
08:29 - 08:29
would be one authenticity.
08:30 - 08:32
I am saying that I like to stay true to
08:33 - 08:36
myself. I like to be myself, Be honest with myself,
08:36 - 08:38
to be honest with the people around me.
08:38 - 08:42
Um, second one would be I'm a very passionate person.
08:43 - 08:44
I can get really intense.
08:45 - 08:47
You know, I put my mind to whatever I'm doing.
08:48 - 08:50
Um, the third would be I'm over minded.
08:51 - 08:53
Um, I like to keep over mind.
08:53 - 08:57
View things from different options, you know, gets me in
08:57 - 08:57
a lot of conversations.
08:58 - 09:00
A lot of argument, but it's always interesting.
09:01 - 09:06
Um, another, um, core value of myself is self awareness.
09:07 - 09:09
I am knowing myself.
09:10 - 09:12
Understanding myself is something that's really important to me.
09:13 - 09:15
Um, and finally, impact.
09:16 - 09:19
You know, I'm all about having a positive impact on
09:19 - 09:22
the people around me, you know, making a positive contribution
09:23 - 09:25
to my community and stuff like that.
09:26 - 09:28
How do I recognize that the ship and others?
09:28 - 09:33
I just try to identify the positive thing about the
09:33 - 09:36
person. And I believe, no matter how terrible a person
09:37 - 09:39
could be like, there's something about them that you can
09:40 - 09:43
look at That, you know, is a positive aspect that,
09:43 - 09:46
you know, lets you see the leader, the leader in
09:47 - 09:51
them. And why is this so important to recognize leaders
09:52 - 09:52
and others?
09:53 - 09:56
It is important because, you know, when you recognize people
09:57 - 10:00
and their leadership, you increase the chances of you know,
10:00 - 10:02
the person wanting to repeat those things.
10:03 - 10:07
So you're you're you're you're creating an environment of leaders,
10:08 - 10:13
basically, um, so going forward, the edge of the bed
10:13 - 10:17
advice. So my number one edge of the bed advice
10:17 - 10:17
would be.
10:17 - 10:18
Do not limit yourself.
10:20 - 10:20
Um, definitely.
10:21 - 10:24
Do not let people project their own limitations on you
10:24 - 10:28
because people would advise sometimes based on what they assume
10:28 - 10:29
is your capacity.
10:30 - 10:31
But then nobody knows it.
10:32 - 10:34
You you there's there's no limit.
10:35 - 10:36
You can do a lot of things.
10:36 - 10:41
The opportunities are limitless and boundless.
10:41 - 10:42
So do not limit yourself.
10:43 - 10:45
And do not let anybody tell you what you can
10:45 - 10:46
and cannot do.
10:46 - 10:50
Um, second edge of the bad advice would be.
10:50 - 10:50
Forgive yourself.
10:51 - 10:53
I feel like there's a lot of people walking around,
10:54 - 10:56
you know, with hurt with guilt.
10:57 - 11:01
And it really doesn't you know, doesn't help.
11:02 - 11:03
I mean, don't get me wrong.
11:03 - 11:05
If you do something wrong, you should feel remorseful.
11:06 - 11:08
But after that, move on from it.
11:09 - 11:13
Learn your lesson learned for you from your mistake and
11:13 - 11:16
then move forward my third bed of the edge of
11:16 - 11:17
the bed.
11:17 - 11:19
Advice would be, This guy is wide enough for but
11:20 - 11:20
to fly without collision.
11:21 - 11:25
Just like from the day Want book, which says that
11:26 - 11:31
to live in an economy of abundance Um, don't don't
11:31 - 11:33
look at it like everyone is out to get you
11:34 - 11:36
or you have to get things before others get it
11:36 - 11:39
or you're You know, it has to be a competition.
11:40 - 11:43
It doesn't have to be rather work on yourself.
11:43 - 11:47
Work on making yourself indispensable and you know you would
11:48 - 11:48
succeed.
