  1. Good Day Impact Academy Students& Parents.
  2. Today is a presentation on 9th grade guidance.
  3. Ninth grade success love the life you have while you
  4. create the life of your dreams.
  5. Hal Elroy.
  6. First thing I want to talk about is some typical
  7. night grade courses.
  8. So for english we have night great literature and composition.
  9. For this school year there will be no end of
  10. course tests.
  11. Um For ninth grade list so you don't have to
  12. worry about that.
  13. That will count as 20% of your overall grade.
  14. But this year we won't have anything for ninth grade
  15. lit. Just for this school year From Math, a typical
  16. course would be algebra one.
  17. There is an end of course test for this course.
  18. Science. Um typically is biology.
  19. Some students have environmental art maybe something else but biology
  20. has an end of course test, Social Studies, there is
  21. no 9th grade social studies course but a lot of
  22. students take a social studies elective like world geography in
  23. their schedule.
  24. Health and personal fitness is required for 1/9 well for
  25. graduation requirements but it's typical or ninth grade course and
  26. then kids are taking CTE fine arts are foreign language
  27. elective. Usually some kids are starting out in their year,
  28. one of a foreign language and we offer many foreign
  29. languages such as spanish french german latin.
  30. Or you might be starting out in your C.
  31. T. A.
  32. E. Career in your intro classes like intro to health
  33. care science, intro to business technology.
  34. So again these are typical ninth grade courses but some
  35. students are ahead saying algebra, you might have taken it
  36. in eighth grade, so you're taking geometry and for 1/9
  37. grader. So these are just typical ninth grade horses, but
  38. they're not standard.
  39. It can vary based on each individual student rates matter
  40. now a lot freshman grace affect your high school transcript
  41. more than any other year.
  42. The great you earn as a freshman set the stage
  43. for your accumulative G.
  44. P. A.
  45. For the rest of your high school career.
  46. It is very difficult to bring up a G.
  47. P. A.
  48. That has low scores, grades are a representation of you
  49. and how much work you have put forth in.
  50. Of course.
  51. Now it's a good time to start planning for your
  52. future and plan to get good grades because your grades
  53. can influence your future opportunities.
  54. Remember that to graduate, you have to pass classes to
  55. earn credit.
  56. Fallon equals no credit can equal delayed graduation and no
  57. one don't want to be delayed for their graduation year.
  58. Now we can start thinking about what's happening now in
  59. the fall semester and what we want to do in
  60. the spring semester.
  61. So first semester's fall semester, second semester, spring semester.
  62. So right now this is the time to explore possible
  63. career ideas.
  64. These are your elected.
  65. So your intro, the health care science intro, the law
  66. and justice.
  67. You saw something on tv.
  68. Are you always thought that you are interested in a
  69. particular field?
  70. This is the time to explore those intro classes to
  71. see if that's really something that you're interested in?
  72. Make a list of interesting talents and consider how they
  73. feel. It's a different career path.
  74. Set goals.
  75. It is so important to set goals because if you
  76. don't know where you're going you don't know how you're
  77. going to get there.
  78. So have a goal set and set a goal for
  79. each one of your classes, join school clubs, sports and
  80. our community activities.
  81. We are in the process of getting clubs set up.
  82. You might want to join some club and might be
  83. virtual or some type of sports or community activities that
  84. are going on because you want to make sure you
  85. have a happy and healthy balanced life.
  86. So look out for different information on our website about
  87. clubs and just check with your community all together to
  88. see if there's something that you may be interested in
  89. that you feel safe and participating in second semester, spring
  90. semester. This is the time to start planning out courses
  91. for next year.
  92. What do you want to do for your sophomore year?
  93. Do you want to continue that career pathway that you
  94. started during your freshman year?
  95. Do you want to try something new?
  96. Start thinking about colleges based on your interesting career goals?
  97. This is dual enrollment?
  98. Um you want if you're interested in doing dual enrollment.
  99. This is a time to find out what is dual
  100. enrollment, What do I have to do to get enrolled
  101. into a college?
  102. What test do I have to take?
  103. Is that the A.
  104. C. T.
  105. S. A.
  106. T. A.
  107. K. A placer.
  108. What grades do I have to have?
  109. What G.
  110. P. A.
  111. Do I have to have?
  112. This is the time to start thinking about those things
  113. and and your zone school counselor can help you work
  114. through. What classes can I take our, what classes do
  115. I qualify to take doing dual enrollment?
  116. Also in the spring, you want to start a list
  117. of your awards, your honors, paid and volunteer work or
  118. any extracurricular activities that you participate in because you want
  119. to update this throughout high school because at the end
  120. of your high school career you might need a reference
  121. from your zone school counselor and having all this information
  122. will help them write you a beautiful, nice reference for
  123. a college or a job.
  124. Some important days to keep in mind is the P.
  125. S. A.
  126. T. And the pre.
  127. S. A.
  128. T. Um This school year, I don't think the county
  129. has given out the pre A.
  130. C. T.
  131. But they are giving out the P.
  132. S. A.
  133. T. There was an email sent out to parents and
  134. students earlier this month in september about how to sign
  135. up for the P.
  136. S. A.
  137. T. And night graders are eligible to take the P.
  138. S. A.
  139. T. Um But um and if you were interested there
  140. is a charge of $14 and you would have to
  141. pay that.
  142. But I believe the deadline has passed today but that
  143. email was sent out early in september to each parent
  144. and each student.
  145. Also, another thing to consider is a, as if you're
  146. really interested in going deep diving into some unique career
  147. pathways. The Academy for Advanced Studies is the place to
  148. definitely check out, consider taking some advanced career technology courses
  149. over there and they will send out information during second
  150. semester, the email to parents and students about when our
  151. open house days, One of days you can come view
  152. their courses, talk to their teachers and dates to sign
  153. up for courses for the next school year.
  154. So look out for that information.
  155. So more important days to keep in mind is the
  156. end of the first nine weeks, end on October eight.
  157. First semester ends December 22, 39 weeks in March, the
  158. 18th And second semester last day of school is May
  159. the 27.
  160. So keep those dates in mind set goals so that
  161. you get everything done before those dates occur.
  162. Bridge Bill requirements.
  163. So the bridge bill is building resourceful individuals to develop
  164. Georgia's economy Act.
  165. It provides middle and high school students with career counseling
  166. and rarely scheduled advisement to choose a focus plan to
  167. study this year.
  168. We're gonna be using a new platform called na'vi incense
  169. and we're gonna use it to complete the bridge bill
  170. instead of use science.
  171. Not obvious is a college career and life reading this
  172. platform that connects academic achievement to postsecondary goals.
  173. And there will be more information to come out and
  174. guidance will be given to each student so that they
  175. can complete their bridge bill requirement each year there is
  176. a requirement what our graduation requirements?
  177. Well you need four english language arts for maths for
  178. sciences, three social studies, three C.
  179. Take see th E.
  180. And our world language latin and or fine arts credits.
  181. You need one health and personal and physical education credit
  182. And for electors for a minimum of 23 credits.
  183. So you have to have these specific minimum of 23
  184. credits to meet graduation requirements.
  185. Also, many students graduate with way more electors than they
  186. need to.
  187. But you have to have a minimum of these requirements
  188. and a minimum of 23 units requirements for promotion or
  189. graduation are great placement From 9 to 10th grade, you
  190. must earn at least five credits from 10 to 11.
  191. You have to earn at least 11 credits And from
  192. 11 to 12 grade you must earn a minimum of
  193. 17 credits.
  194. Most important thing I can tell you is to take
  195. care of you.
  196. One of the most important tips I can give you
  197. is to take care of yourself and stay healthy, get
  198. enough sleep and be sure to eat healthy foods without
  199. these things.
  200. Your mind cannot perform at pink potential.
  201. Your body is a machine and these are the two
  202. few items that can make or break your success in
  203. school and beyond remember.
  204. Your goal.
  205. Your goal is to graduate from high school.
  206. Your parent wants to see you walk across that stage,
  207. get that diploma and you want to feel that sense
  208. of success.
  209. So make sure you focus, set goals.
  210. Ask questions will need it.
  211. You have lots of help and you have lots of
  212. guidance. Just reach out.
  213. I hope you learned some new information and if you
  214. have any questions, please feel free to reach out to
  215. your impact academy counselor if you have any questions.
