  1. Good evening.
  2. My name is Christy Boys, school counselor at Cascade High
  3. School. Like to welcome all the parents of the class
  4. of 2025.
  5. I will be giving a brief overview of what to
  6. expect from Cascade High School and also what your child
  7. will be completing the next four years.
  8. Uh huh.
  9. Once again, my name is Christy Boys, the counselors of
  10. the class of 2022 24.
  11. Mrs. Marcia Bright was actually the your child's counsel for
  12. the class of 2025.
  13. Unfortunately, she is unable to attend tonight, and also, she
  14. will not be a school for the next couple of
  15. months. So if you have any questions at all, please
  16. feel free to reach out to myself.
  17. In 2018, the Cascade High School was a blue ribbon
  18. school were the only high school in Hendricks County to
  19. be named a blue ribbon school based on the class
  20. of 2018.
  21. In 2016, we had the highest I step scores in
  22. the county, something that we're very proud of, and hopefully
  23. the class of 2025 will strive to complete this task
  24. to There are multiple items of how the high school
  25. is different than the middle school.
  26. In the high school, we play a game called the
  27. Credit Game.
  28. All students are required to learn so many credits.
  29. They also have toe earn required credits.
  30. The other game we play in high school is called
  31. the G P.
  32. A game with a great point average game and all
  33. that is determined by your great and credits earned by
  34. passing the classes.
  35. The other big difference from the middle school to high
  36. school is that we are on 18 week grading period,
  37. so every grade they do in this semester counts towards
  38. one grade.
  39. There are no mawr.
  40. Nine weeks plus nine weeks equals.
  41. They're great.
  42. While earning these credits, they're also trying to accomplish a
  43. diploma type.
  44. We have three main types of diplomas the core 40
  45. the academic honors and technical honors, and we'll dive MAWR
  46. into these a little bit later.
  47. Another question we always get from parents is what classes
  48. should their child take.
  49. It really depends on what your plan is or your
  50. child's plan after they leave Cascade.
  51. If there are going to attend a four year traditional
  52. college then they should be striving for the academic honors.
  53. Diploma E que core 40 diploma is also recognized by
  54. colleges. If they like to do some hands on activities,
  55. then they should attend Area 31 maybe strive for the
  56. tech honors.
  57. Or, once again, they also could go for the core
  58. 40. Another aspect that we always strive for is our
  59. 12 24 36 options.
  60. By the end of their junior year, they have 36
  61. credits. If they do that, they have a lot of
  62. different options that they could do.
  63. We tell our seniors that their senior year should look
  64. like their plan after they leave high school.
  65. So if it's college, they should take some Ivy Tech
  66. classes. If it's a trade school, they might want into
  67. every 31.
  68. If they like to jump right into the workforce, then
  69. they should make sure they do our internship class.
  70. We do offer Ivy Tech classes here at Cascade High
  71. School. We have professors on loaned from Ivy Tech that
  72. can actually come here and teach their classes.
  73. Each Ivy Tech class meets one day a week for
  74. three class periods as you can see on the schedule.
  75. English is Monday Math Wednesday speech Friday on Tuesdays and
  76. Thursdays, students would have to be at Cascade until 10
  77. 45 or fourth period.
  78. All these Ivy tech classes are free where the only
  79. school in the county to offer Ivy Tech classes for
  80. free, which could save the parents tremendous amount of money.
  81. These are the three different types of diplomas.
  82. It is very hard to see these air also online
  83. underneath the Cascade High School website under the guidance department,
  84. so you can look those up here.
  85. These are the three items that your child will be
  86. striving for before they could walk across the stage or
  87. senior year.
  88. They must earn a diploma.
  89. They must complete the graduation pathways, and they must take
  90. the S A T, which is replacing.
  91. I step.
  92. The Graduation Pathways has three components.
  93. These three components are earn a diploma, make sure they
  94. have some type of demonstrating employability skills, and they are
  95. ready for whatever they would like to do.
  96. I have to leave high school employability skills could be
  97. anything from being in a club at school, being in
  98. a sport, participating in a play any extra curricular activities
  99. at school would qualify them.
  100. The extracurricular activities at school is part of the service
  101. based experience of employability skills.
  102. Maybe your child's not involved at school.
  103. They can also work a job.
  104. A traditional job is earner as earning a paycheck can
  105. be used for the work based experience or if they,
  106. they volunteer somewhere, would also apply for this area.
  107. The third item in the graduation pathways is the post
  108. secondary thes air, all the different items that they could
  109. complete, and we will talk about some of them.
  110. As you can see, they can get certain scores on
  111. the A.
  112. C. T.
  113. S A.
  114. T. As a junior, they will take the as fab
  115. test here at Cascade.
  116. So if they receive a 31 or higher on the
  117. asphalt, that would qualify them for this area.
  118. The other two items.
  119. A lot of our students can complete this category by
  120. is going or attending to every every 31 there on
  121. a C or higher for a whole year.
  122. That would qualify them if they would take our Ivy
  123. Tech classes and get a C or higher all year.
  124. That would also qualify them.
  125. Like I mentioned earlier, we have an 18 week cumulative
  126. grading period.
  127. As you can see by this chart, it breaks down
  128. how students can earn in a, B, C, D and
  129. an F two grades.
  130. Count the great at the end of semester one and
  131. the great at the end of semester too.
  132. Once these grades have been completed, their G p a
  133. will be calculated.
  134. We do have some honors classes that are weighted This
  135. slide shows you how we wait these classes.
  136. So the 0.1 times a number of waited credits that
  137. you have earned divided by the number of semesters you've
  138. been in high school.
  139. So whatever, whatever that is is added onto your unweighted
  140. g p a.
  141. On Tuesday, your child was handed a folder within that
  142. folder. There's a scheduling worksheet, which is green was also
  143. a four year plan on the scheduling worksheet.
  144. Some classes were chosen for your child already based on
  145. the performance of the eighth grade and seventh grade.
  146. Please check these classes.
  147. If you have any questions, please let me know Students
  148. can earn Ap credit by playing I.
  149. H s a a sport.
  150. They must complete the season of good standing, which means
  151. they cannot be kicked off if they complete the season
  152. Good standing, then they will earn A for P one
  153. or p two.
  154. This slide shows a little bit more about the sports
  155. on what they can play.
  156. Unfortunately, cheerleading is not considering I h s a A
  157. sport, so it cannot be used.
  158. Also, a PCR weightlifting class or team, sports or yoga
  159. are not required.
  160. P E credits on the scheduling worksheet.
  161. There are some blanks near the bottom.
  162. Please fill all those in with different elective classes that
  163. your child might want to take.
  164. Middle school students have a great opportunity to earn high
  165. school credits while in middle school.
  166. In my opinion, all these credits should be a ZX
  167. because middle school students are starting there.
  168. G p A.
  169. While in middle school, every class they take in middle
  170. school, they're gonna be required.
  171. Take a harder class in high school.
  172. As you can see on this slide, this is the
  173. four year plan for math.
  174. And depending on when your child takes these math classes,
  175. it will get harder and harder.
  176. So a student that is in geometry Honors as 1/9
  177. grade must complete one of these items and their senior
  178. year. If you go down from geometry honors at the
  179. high school level, we see this as one of the
  180. biggest problems, because students, I feel like if they need
  181. to go on to the next math class, even though
  182. they do not have an A.
  183. Please complete the scheduling worksheet, put it back in the
  184. folder and return the entire folder to Mr Nielsen By
  185. February 2nd students, Do you have the opportunity to take
  186. summer school classes?
  187. Casket High School uses Indiana Online as their source of
  188. summer school classes.
  189. Thes classes are free as long as they're taking during
  190. the summertime mawr.
  191. Information will be delivered in May for how to sign
  192. your student up.
  193. Students at Cascade High School have the opportunity to take
  194. advanced placement classes.
  195. AP during their sophomore year, will be the first opportunity
  196. that they will will take AP US history.
  197. AP is extremely hard.
  198. They will take a test in May.
  199. On that test, they must score a three or higher,
  200. three out of five for them to earn college credit
  201. if they do not earn a three or higher than
  202. they will not receive college credit.
  203. These classes also have a weight to them.
  204. These are all their different Ivy Tech dual credit classes
  205. that students could take while they're in there.
  206. Four years at Cascade.
  207. The Ivy Tech classes are not waited, but they earn
  208. college credit over the course of the class.
  209. There is not a test like a P.
  210. Another aspect I want to touch briefly on is making
  211. sure that your child gets involved.
  212. Get involved at Cascade High School.
  213. There is something out there for every child, so please
  214. encourage them to get involved in something while in their
  215. four years at Cascade, the 21st century scholarship program must
  216. be filled out and completed while your child is in
  217. middle school.
  218. If you have not done this, make sure you talk
  219. to Mrs Tanya Craig, this counselor at the middle school.
  220. This program is based on income, and it does pay
  221. for tuition of colleges.
  222. Near the end of July, we always hold a cadet
  223. kick off.
  224. The cadet kickoff is a freshman orientation program that we
  225. put on by our juniors and 16 years, and they
  226. showed the freshman or their classes are how to open
  227. up a locker and we have different types of activities
  228. and games we play with them.
  229. There's also usually a parent meeting that night to conclude.
  230. So we will set out more information.
  231. It may about architect kickoff.
  232. I highly encourage you to send your child to architect.
  233. Kickoff. So now what is left that folder?
  234. Every freshman or eighth grader?
  235. Sorry. Every eighth grader was given a folder when they
  236. met with me.
  237. In that folder is a four year plan that we
  238. sketched out.
  239. There is also a green scheduling form.
  240. Please look that over with your child.
  241. Fill in all the blanks, sign and return it with
  242. the folder to Mr Nielsen By February 2nd an easy
  243. way that we stay in contact with parents and students
  244. stood the remind app You do not to download this
  245. app All you have to do if you're a parent
  246. text 8, 10 10 and then in the message.
  247. But at 25 parent then then for the students which
  248. I had them dio last Tuesday I met with them
  249. is text 8, 10 10 and met in the message.
  250. But at 25 c h s.
  251. This will automatically sign you up to get messages from
  252. Mrs Break.
  253. I'd like to thank everybody for listening and following along.
  254. If anybody has any questions, all feel free to reach
  255. out to me.
  256. I'll be answering all Mrs Brights questions the next couple
  257. of months.
  258. Um, my email is there, and my phone number is
  259. there. Do not be afraid to reach out.
  260. Look through that scheduling worksheet.
  261. If you have any questions at all, don't be afraid
  262. of contact.
  263. Thank you very much.
  264. Goodbye.
