00:01 - 00:05
I'm into the crate is my career project,
00:06 - 00:08
I am here to tell you, but the career I'm interested,
00:08 - 00:12
I'm mostly interested in strength conditioning on that goes along
00:12 - 00:13
the lines of health and one of us as well.
00:13 - 00:16
Um it's kind of just been my passion my whole life.
00:16 - 00:20
Um it's kind of just where I've always felt a sense of belonging.
00:20 - 00:23
Um My group as an athlete grew up always working out in the gym
00:23 - 00:28
on the field um and it's kind of just something I just have always felt at home.
00:28 - 00:30
So moving as a military brat,
00:30 - 00:34
it kind of just always kept me um stable and just
00:34 - 00:36
always felt like I was where I need to be,
00:36 - 00:39
so that's kind of what I'm interested in, why what career, you know,
00:40 - 00:42
go from their employment opportunities,
00:42 - 00:44
employment opportunities from strength conditioning.
00:44 - 00:46
Obviously once I get some certifications on my game,
00:46 - 00:49
if I get education um I'll be able to
00:49 - 00:53
branch off become a straight conditioning um coach
00:53 - 00:56
that's either with a university with a college,
00:56 - 00:59
with a school that can be college level, high school, middle school whatever,
00:59 - 01:01
or I can go freelance,
01:01 - 01:05
kind of being my own personal trainer or my own business owner and uh really
01:05 - 01:08
trained athletes on my own if that's something I would like to do as well.
01:09 - 01:10
Um skills and abilities,
01:10 - 01:13
skills obviously need to be greater community communication,
01:13 - 01:15
you'd be really good at leadership,
01:15 - 01:18
kind of just like know how to handle different situations,
01:18 - 01:20
you never really know what's gonna get thrown your way,
01:20 - 01:23
especially as a coach or a trainer.
01:23 - 01:25
Um you're not just worried about your life,
01:25 - 01:28
you're you're worried about either your athlete or you're
01:28 - 01:30
customers life as well,
01:30 - 01:31
chinese certifications.
01:31 - 01:33
Uh strength conditioning definitely need your CS
01:33 - 01:37
CS um certified strength and conditioning coach,
01:37 - 01:38
personal trainer, you need your M.
01:38 - 01:43
C. S. A. C. P. T. Or your A A. CMS. Uh personal chinese delegation. Um
01:44 - 01:48
Either way those will be great things to help you get any position that you're
01:48 - 01:50
looking forward to getting along with the
01:50 - 01:52
education that will definitely help as well.
01:52 - 01:56
Um And any experience you can get prior to those job opportunities.
01:57 - 01:59
Um Career trends.
01:59 - 02:01
Um There's a lot of things going on right now,
02:01 - 02:05
especially in the fitness industry and strength condition um
02:05 - 02:07
that really has to do with technology wise.
02:07 - 02:10
Um A lot of people are in a cryotherapy right now, you can see the picture right there.
02:10 - 02:13
Um That's one of the cryotherapy chambers that do exist right now.
02:13 - 02:15
To the right of that is the virgin max.
02:15 - 02:18
Um It's just another way for someone really just gain strengthen
02:18 - 02:23
endurance, especially helping with their vertical um
02:24 - 02:27
Jumping abilities right there to the right of that is a fitness watch.
02:27 - 02:30
Just another example we got the band going on right now really
02:30 - 02:34
pop up for especially for crossfit athletes um and other professional athletes.
02:34 - 02:40
It just checks your sleep schedule whereby you're at 5% of your at and all that stuff.
02:40 - 02:45
So I'm really focused on really the main trends like is focused on recovery.
02:45 - 02:49
Um it's not just focusing on like the performance of yourself
02:49 - 02:53
or the ethic during your competition but outside of competition because
02:53 - 02:55
really what you do the other 23 hours of the day
02:55 - 02:57
is kind of what's going to benefit the most as well.
02:58 - 03:03
Um So I did an interview with Justin humble um This
03:03 - 03:05
kind of his bio and the reason why I chose him.
03:05 - 03:05
So Justin
03:06 - 03:09
is the E. C. U. Health and fitness specialist major.
03:09 - 03:13
Uh He is born and raised in north Carolina.
03:13 - 03:16
Um His father actually played football TCU. He actually
03:17 - 03:19
ended up being a part of the program as well
03:19 - 03:22
at some point after he left his division three school.
03:22 - 03:23
Um
03:23 - 03:29
So uh that's kind of his bio. Uh He's a major fitness enthusiast.
03:29 - 03:33
So uh he currently lives in Miami florida after graduating from VCU.
03:33 - 03:37
Um The reason why I chose him is number one meeting him a relationship number two.
03:37 - 03:38
Um I know it's not gonna bullshit me.
03:38 - 03:41
I don't like people who bullshit me, he's gonna keep it real.
03:41 - 03:43
Um That's just how our relationship we are with
03:43 - 03:45
each other and he's also just professional and I've
03:45 - 03:49
really seen him go from nothing to something so I think just be able to see a success.
03:49 - 03:52
I know he's doing what he needs to be doing and doing it the right way. So
03:53 - 03:57
uh this kind of accumulates of the interview that mean haven't had
03:57 - 04:00
what does a typical day look like he's elite level personal trainer,
04:00 - 04:05
so uh every day he's training athletes, athletes and non athletes um
04:06 - 04:10
As you can see he has a full busy schedule every day um from morning to
04:10 - 04:14
night and he's also able to fit in not just his clients and his athletes,
04:14 - 04:18
um performance and uh strength change but his own as well.
04:18 - 04:20
So it keeps the day packed
04:21 - 04:24
another Q. And A. Uh some other questions that we went on.
04:24 - 04:27
How do you describe your work around before this type of job?
04:27 - 04:30
He said hi engine, motivating loud, fun and focused.
04:30 - 04:33
Um Nobody likes to quiet jim, nobody likes
04:33 - 04:39
a quiet weight room, like that's just not really have athletes train,
04:39 - 04:41
we want to be able to create the best environment,
04:41 - 04:43
so that's kind of what Justin kind of was talking about there.
04:44 - 04:47
Skills and abilities are censored for his job.
04:47 - 04:51
Number one, he listed communication, um positive, positive, uplifting,
04:51 - 04:53
friendly personality.
04:53 - 04:56
Always like trying to put the customer first. Um
04:57 - 05:00
It doesn't matter what outside stresses you're having, like it's your job,
05:00 - 05:02
so you gotta go in there with the mindset of, hey,
05:02 - 05:07
I'm here for this athlete and stuff like that, so time management,
05:07 - 05:10
team management skills related to just be able to
05:10 - 05:13
relate to the athletes is what he really said,
05:13 - 05:17
our skills and abilities are important for himself in that field,
05:19 - 05:22
um experience the training. Um
05:23 - 05:23
Mhm.
05:24 - 05:27
Number one he said as much personal uh
05:27 - 05:29
experience possible so that's that's really hands on.
05:29 - 05:34
Um that can be paid and unpaid. Um He has done many internships.
05:35 - 05:38
Um It's kind of cool how um
05:39 - 05:42
he graduated during covid and was still able
05:42 - 05:44
to find opportunities for himself and really fine.
05:44 - 05:45
Um
05:46 - 05:49
Just the ability to find success and what he's had to deal with,
05:49 - 05:52
especially graduating from during the covid year.
05:52 - 05:53
So
05:55 - 05:56
anyways
05:56 - 05:58
uh look Q. And A.
05:58 - 06:02
What advice would you give me for this field type of job if you're here?
06:02 - 06:03
Just for the money?
06:03 - 06:08
Um I picked the wrong place and I think that really stands out because um money
06:08 - 06:11
does not motivate me and I think it's cool to hear him say that as well because
06:11 - 06:14
um like he said the money will find
06:14 - 06:16
me and I think that's really important just because
06:17 - 06:19
um as long as you put your head down and
06:19 - 06:22
you know honestly it's sometimes better to stay quiet and just
06:22 - 06:25
do what you need to do um and let everything else
06:25 - 06:27
come to you kind of kind of makes it easier.
06:27 - 06:29
Um Everything more or less just falls in your lap.
06:29 - 06:32
So um when you stress out about money or other things,
06:32 - 06:34
it's really just can make your job harder on yourself.
06:34 - 06:36
So if you focus on your job then
06:36 - 06:38
you know you'll be able to create success for
06:38 - 06:41
yourself um certification training that he said I needed.
06:41 - 06:42
Uh C. S. A.
06:42 - 06:45
And C. N. S. C. A. C. P. T. Um
06:46 - 06:50
especially if I'm staying out of the uh strength conditioning of the college world.
06:51 - 06:54
Um The N. C. S. A. CBT. Will be
06:54 - 06:56
very beneficial for me. Uh
06:57 - 07:00
Instead of my CS CS if I'm gonna become a freelancer
07:00 - 07:02
kind of training athletes on my own.
07:03 - 07:06
Uh He also said like having some experience certifications in
07:06 - 07:11
nutrition are actually very well because very beneficial because of obviously
07:11 - 07:13
you're gonna have content, athletes always speak about nutrition.
07:13 - 07:15
Um There's been a lot of research lately about nutrition
07:15 - 07:19
and how it actually impacts athletes and everyday gym goers.
07:19 - 07:19
Um
07:20 - 07:21
Not just
07:21 - 07:23
for your workouts but every other
07:23 - 07:26
hour of the day it's uh helps, it keeps you doing it's your fuel,
07:26 - 07:28
so just like a race car,
07:28 - 07:29
you gotta put the right things in your body to make sure
07:29 - 07:32
you're doing the right things and able to perform the best.
07:32 - 07:32
So
07:32 - 07:36
uh that's kind of how that went reflection of what's next.
07:36 - 07:40
My reflection is obviously from just and I think one of the things that you point
07:40 - 07:42
out was just becoming an expert in the
07:42 - 07:46
one specific thing or two specific things really.
07:46 - 07:49
You can't be a, so it's army knife which I thought was
07:50 - 07:53
kind of cool that he said that because um you just gotta make yourself marketable,
07:53 - 07:54
you gotta make yourself,
07:54 - 07:58
you will make people want you um as soon as I get a job or opportunity,
07:58 - 08:01
especially if it wasn't a college university level or other levels
08:02 - 08:06
or any other few um I have to make the boss want me. Um
08:06 - 08:07
I got to make sure that
08:08 - 08:11
they think they think I'm not replaceable as if
08:11 - 08:13
I'm not replaceable that they're gonna need me.
08:13 - 08:15
So um college universities um
08:16 - 08:21
Justin kind of also explain to me one on one that like your job isn't always see here,
08:21 - 08:22
there's so much change is going on.
08:22 - 08:25
Um Obviously there's funders, there's
08:25 - 08:29
board of directors and stuff that kinda in charge more than just the coach,
08:29 - 08:30
head coach or the athletic director.
08:30 - 08:32
So you kinda gotta think about that aspect of
08:32 - 08:35
um making people want you is what's really gonna
08:35 - 08:39
keep you employed and always bringing money in the
08:39 - 08:40
bank and that's what you want as well.
08:40 - 08:41
So
08:42 - 08:45
next steps for me, get my certification, I'm currently working on that right now.
08:45 - 08:47
Um get experienced internship,
08:47 - 08:50
whatever that may be um kinda have done little ones already,
08:50 - 08:51
but I definitely want to do something
08:52 - 08:55
major just so I can get more hands on opportunities.
08:55 - 08:56
Um
08:56 - 08:57
Number three,
08:57 - 09:00
I think what Justin mentioned is become an expert in one
09:00 - 09:03
area and I think that will really help me out.
09:03 - 09:06
I have a very open mind and broad perspective, a lot of things
09:06 - 09:11
but I think if I'm going to get some expertise in one specific thing,
09:11 - 09:16
um I'm gonna be wanted and needed and uh a lot of jobs and so after that,
09:16 - 09:18
number four I'm gonna market myself.
09:18 - 09:21
I'm supposed to graduate this fall. And if I'm a little market myself,
09:22 - 09:25
I'll be able to create opportunities, um, using linkedin or whatever.
09:25 - 09:29
I'll be able to do something and, um, really get my name out there, so thank you.
09:30 - 09:34
And then those are my source resources I had through websites.
