  1. my name is Elsie errands and this is my statement of purpose,
  2. my stakeholder I'll be addressing in this video is my mom Jessica.
  3. My mom has always been my number one supporter throughout my life,
  4. whether it's about school sports or even just life in general,
  5. she always helps me when she can and is there for me when I need it most.
  6. She helps me keep myself on track and make sure that I'm happy no matter what I'm doing
  7. um who am I? I'm a graduate from Southwestern High School and Hanover P. A.
  8. Um I was involved in my school's field hockey team as their captain,
  9. my junior and senior year, but before I started field hockey,
  10. I was a competitive gymnast.
  11. I have a very athletic background and have always been a part of some sort of team.
  12. While gymnastics was an individually scored sport.
  13. Support from your team and coaches was always necessary to do well,
  14. even when competing by yourself
  15. while I was a captain on my field hockey team,
  16. it was important for me to emphasize teamwork on and off the field
  17. during this time, I also learned how to enforce rules made by the coaches,
  18. while also communicating with my teammates and coaches about what was going on.
  19. Being involved with sports has taught me how to work with others and also
  20. communicate with people in positions above and
  21. below me with in a respectful manner.
  22. My school and academics have always played an important role in my life,
  23. as it's always been emphasized that I need to do well in school,
  24. Both of my parents graduated together from a
  25. technical school and continued on to college afterwards.
  26. Following the footsteps of my parents,
  27. I also have decided to continue my education
  28. and get my degree from Westchester University.
  29. I originally applied and started out as a sports medicine
  30. major as I was always involved and interested in sports,
  31. but I quickly realized that it was not for me.
  32. My first semester of school,
  33. I struggled with my mental health and keeping track of my assignments and classes.
  34. The classes that I had scheduled as a sports med major
  35. were way too difficult for me to comprehend and understand.
  36. I had multiple calls with my mom about what to do if I didn't
  37. like my major and she asked me do you have a backup plan?
  38. After a few conversations later I decided to change my major to marketing,
  39. but it was too late in the semester for me to
  40. change the classes that I had already had on my schedule.
  41. So I had to wait to start my business classes until spring semester.
  42. I took a few business classes in high school
  43. and always enjoyed participating and learning in them.
  44. My mom also owns her own small business with her boyfriend.
  45. So I've always been around that sort of environment.
  46. After talking to my mom more and more about the next steps for me.
  47. She made sure to emphasize that
  48. my academics are under my own control and I have to be responsible for
  49. myself to keep my grades up because I'm not in high school anymore.
  50. I don't have as many people around to make sure
  51. that I'm on track and submitting all of my work.
  52. I made a four year plan in my F. Y. E. Class
  53. to help keep myself on track better.
  54. This way I can see all of my past,
  55. current and future classes that I have to take
  56. in order to graduate with my marketing degree.
  57. I also plan to take advantage of my resources that I have, like the library tutors,
  58. counselors and success coaches to keep me motivated and on the right track.
  59. My plan for the future is to get myself and
  60. my grades back on track to be the most successful.
  61. I can be during my time at Westchester
  62. after I graduate with my Bachelors in marketing.
  63. I plan to join my mom and her business as her marketing consultant to not only
  64. help her grow her business but allow her and myself to get more out of it.
