00:01 - 00:04
alright and my last topic is going to be conflict management.
00:04 - 00:08
So conflict is the express struggle of interconnected parties who perceive
00:08 - 00:13
incompatible goals and interfere each other in attaining those goals.
00:13 - 00:14
However,
00:14 - 00:16
moderate amounts of conflict can be constructive force
00:16 - 00:19
in groups if it is managed competently.
00:19 - 00:23
So the conflict wasn't anything necessarily negative.
00:23 - 00:27
I would just say it was the tension between us and Dr Shankar as we
00:27 - 00:33
were used to a certain class and didn't really necessarily want or need change.
00:33 - 00:36
I'm someone who does not like change, and it's always been like that.
00:36 - 00:39
Although I think this change ended up being an amazing thing.
00:40 - 00:43
It's not necessarily something I perceived would be happening this semester.
00:43 - 00:46
So that was kind of like the inner conflict with me.
00:46 - 00:49
And I think with a lot of other classmates was
00:49 - 00:52
kind of trying to adjust and find that balance and,
00:52 - 00:54
you know, make the best out of it.
00:55 - 00:58
There is constructive and destructive conflict,
00:58 - 01:01
so constructive is the things that can be kind of good,
01:01 - 01:06
where destructive could ultimately tear down a team if it's not handled properly.
01:07 - 01:10
The collaborating style teams to be a win win because it's
01:10 - 01:13
when students collaborate with each other to fix any conflict and ultimately
01:14 - 01:15
go towards their goals.
01:16 - 01:18
There was a lot of constructive and collaborating,
01:18 - 01:21
Um when When scenarios in our class and we use a lot
01:21 - 01:26
of competition and mutually benefit results in order to kind of learn.
01:26 - 01:30
So we had different competitions where you get treats or even
01:30 - 01:33
when Dr Shankar just brought in little candy or cookies.
01:34 - 01:36
It was something that kind of handled this conflict good.
01:36 - 01:37
And it made, you know,
01:37 - 01:40
the collaborating style of group work beneficial
01:40 - 01:42
because we got an incentive for it,
01:42 - 01:43
which was very helpful for me.
01:43 - 01:45
And I mean, we really enjoyed the class.
01:45 - 01:47
We all have different values and beliefs,
01:47 - 01:49
but ultimately I kind of had to find a way to
01:49 - 01:51
balance it and know how to handle one another with,
01:51 - 01:52
like, things like that.
01:53 - 01:55
There's hard and soft bargainers.
01:55 - 01:59
Dr. Shankar tended to be more of a soft bargainer because she
01:59 - 02:02
I saw that we had to go through something that was not usual
02:02 - 02:06
and she approached it in a way that was so mature and amazing
02:06 - 02:10
by rewarding us by showing her showing us that she knew it was
02:10 - 02:13
weird and that she was going to help us get through it,
02:13 - 02:15
and it was so important and it really helped me, like I said,
02:15 - 02:18
Kind of managed through it and get through it.
02:18 - 02:22
Principal negotiation has four areas of interest.
02:22 - 02:28
People, interest, options and criteria, and this is kind of the idea
02:29 - 02:31
of interest based bargaining.
02:31 - 02:33
And then there's conflict management,
02:33 - 02:37
which goes in a bunch of different styles competing, which is kind of what we did,
02:37 - 02:38
but in a healthy way.
02:38 - 02:43
Accommodating, sharing, collaborating and then one that's not so good avoiding.
02:43 - 02:46
So we definitely shared. We shared so many different stories.
02:46 - 02:49
We did the whole unit on storytelling. We collaborated with one another.
02:49 - 02:51
We did group work not only within our own
02:51 - 02:53
groups but within randomly made ones as well,
02:53 - 02:56
which I think was very helpful because we kind of get to learn other people's styles.
02:57 - 03:00
We also accommodated one another and made sure that we're all doing our
03:00 - 03:05
part to make sure everyone was being successful in reaching their goals.
03:06 - 03:08
Here is my source.
03:08 - 03:11
I just use the in mixed company book that we
03:11 - 03:13
were required to purchase at the beginning of the semester,
03:13 - 03:16
but just some closing thoughts is I really, really,
03:16 - 03:20
really appreciated Dr Shankar and her attitude as she came in
03:20 - 03:23
and ultimately learned so much from her as a professor.
03:23 - 03:27
Not only did I learn a lot from both professors,
03:27 - 03:30
but I also learned how to deal with transition and that change is
03:30 - 03:33
not always a bad thing and that you can make it the best
03:33 - 03:35
that you can be and the best it can be as long as
03:35 - 03:38
you have a positive attitude and approach it the best that you can.
03:38 - 03:41
So thank you so much for being so amazing and kind
03:41 - 03:45
and open and caring towards all of your students this semester.
03:45 - 03:48
And test group leadership was definitely a class I can
03:48 - 03:50
look back at and say I learned a lot.
03:50 - 03:52
Have a great Christmas break. Thank you so much.
