00:01 - 00:05
Hello. So I am going thio kind of be discussing
00:06 - 00:12
my kind of reflection over my child that I observed,
00:13 - 00:17
um, in the S Q s he at Cedar Canyon?
00:18 - 00:20
Um, for education, 3 55.
00:22 - 00:24
And so to start off, I just kind of wanted
00:25 - 00:29
to talk about, um, my student student k with the
00:30 - 00:30
parent communication.
00:32 - 00:37
Um, now, when it came to communicating with student Kay's
00:37 - 00:42
parents, I didn't get much feedback from them.
00:43 - 00:48
I when I did send out the questionnaire, Um, and
00:48 - 00:53
my like letter like introduction letter and everything, Um, and
00:54 - 00:57
my email, like, kind of just explaining everything.
00:57 - 01:01
Um, the only thing I really got back from the
01:01 - 01:05
parent waas a really quick response of the questionnaire, which
01:05 - 01:08
was really good, because then I could get started on
01:08 - 01:08
it fast.
01:09 - 01:13
Um, but outside of that oh, in the in the
01:13 - 01:14
signature as well.
01:14 - 01:16
So, like, they responded really fast to that.
01:17 - 01:21
But outside of that, I didn't really get much feedback
01:21 - 01:22
from student case parents.
01:23 - 01:28
Um, I did kind of go through the questionnaire.
01:29 - 01:33
Um, just like a couple of things with the teacher
01:34 - 01:37
because I was kind of unsure about like what they
01:37 - 01:40
had written down certain things, and she was kind of
01:40 - 01:41
confused by them, too.
01:41 - 01:43
But I didn't go off and share like the whole
01:44 - 01:44
like responses.
01:45 - 01:49
I just had a few questions on what, um, they
01:49 - 01:54
had written down so but outside of that, I haven't
01:55 - 01:56
really gotten much communication from the parent.
01:57 - 02:03
But from like the information that I tad with the
02:03 - 02:06
teacher, that the parent is pretty involved, I think the
02:06 - 02:11
students like and so maybe she's just been busy, I
02:11 - 02:11
don't know.
02:12 - 02:15
But that was kind of what I got from the
02:15 - 02:20
parent, um eso observations of student K.
02:21 - 02:25
So I got to observe him, like all throughout this
02:25 - 02:29
semester, which has been really fun because he's like, super
02:30 - 02:34
talkative and like, almost the light of the classroom because
02:35 - 02:37
a lot of them are just really quiet.
02:37 - 02:39
But he is always so outgoing.
02:40 - 02:44
Eso he was really fun to observe and just kind
02:44 - 02:46
of write down like the things he says and does.
02:47 - 02:51
And I think that's kind of why my coordinating teacher
02:51 - 02:53
picked him for me because she felt like he was
02:53 - 02:57
best suited to observe and so some of the things
02:57 - 02:59
that really stuck out to me.
02:59 - 03:08
Waas, Um the student, actually, um, like he was really
03:09 - 03:11
good at positive reinforcement.
03:12 - 03:15
He wasn't so much like, um, he didn't like so
03:16 - 03:18
much follow any, like, sort of negative reinforcement.
03:19 - 03:23
Like, for example, I wrote in my key assessment that,
03:24 - 03:28
um, like, if you would be like, Hey, can you
03:28 - 03:31
please keep all like you shouldn't be doing that.
03:31 - 03:34
You shouldn't have be leading back on your chair.
03:34 - 03:36
You should keep all four legs on the ground.
03:37 - 03:40
You just kind of stare atyou and be like, really
03:40 - 03:45
but, um, re approaching the question you could like.
03:45 - 03:49
He works well with, Like, if another student is sitting
03:49 - 03:52
quietly with all four legs on the ground and they're
03:52 - 03:55
doing a good work, um, or a good job.
03:56 - 03:58
Um, you'll go to the student and be like, Oh,
03:59 - 03:59
my gosh.
03:59 - 04:02
Student s You are doing so good.
04:02 - 04:04
I love how you have all four legs on the
04:04 - 04:08
ground and you are listening and doing your work really
04:09 - 04:12
well. And, um, give them a punch on a punch
04:13 - 04:14
card and right away.
04:14 - 04:18
Student case like and like, puts his leg like legs
04:18 - 04:23
down on his chair and continues and tries Thio like
04:23 - 04:26
near the image of the student that just got complimented
04:27 - 04:28
almost and so.
04:30 - 04:33
And the punch card thing was something that my teacher,
04:33 - 04:37
Mrs Guys woman was saying that she kind of enforced
04:37 - 04:39
just because of Student K.
04:39 - 04:43
Because, um, it's kind of like a reward system if
04:43 - 04:46
you get so many punches on your punchcard like you
04:46 - 04:48
get to go get something from the treasure chest and
04:48 - 04:50
there's, like, 20 like punches.
04:51 - 04:51
And so what?
04:51 - 04:53
I mean, it's not like in all the time thing,
04:53 - 04:58
but it definitely helps, um, with, like, student K's like
04:59 - 05:05
behavior. Um, another thing is Student K are really, like,
05:06 - 05:08
works well with other students.
05:09 - 05:12
So that is something that I saw as well.
05:12 - 05:17
He's really like we would have like mask breaks, Um,
05:18 - 05:20
but like it was on Lee for a certain period
05:21 - 05:23
of time and like it could be during playtime.
05:24 - 05:25
But all the students had to be like at least
05:26 - 05:28
6 ft apart from each other, and student K would
05:29 - 05:31
never like you could choose to leave your mask on
05:31 - 05:33
or leave it off, and if you left it on,
05:33 - 05:35
you could go wherever you want it.
05:35 - 05:40
Thio. But so students they would always leave his mask
05:40 - 05:42
on so we could go around and interact with other
05:43 - 05:46
people. And, um and he'd be like, Hey, could you
05:46 - 05:48
put your mask on Because I want to play with
05:48 - 05:51
you. And so that is something else that student K
05:52 - 05:56
was really, really good at, um was communicating with people
05:56 - 06:01
and playing and interacting with people something that I observed
06:02 - 06:02
at the end of the semester.
06:03 - 06:06
Um, it was actually my last day in the classroom,
06:07 - 06:11
and so I really didn't like Like, it was kind
06:11 - 06:15
of like my goodbye day because of, like, I got
06:15 - 06:15
my all my hours.
06:16 - 06:19
But we also weren't like, allowed to anymore because of
06:20 - 06:20
Cove it.
06:20 - 06:22
So I came in to, like, say goodbye, and I
06:22 - 06:29
stayed there for the day and student K, we were
06:29 - 06:34
sitting at a snack time, and I was I, like,
06:35 - 06:37
usually would pass out snacks sometimes if, like, the teachers
06:38 - 06:38
need to help.
06:38 - 06:41
And so, um, something that we would do is give
06:41 - 06:43
choices to the students, so we'd like Do you want
06:43 - 06:45
goldfish or do you want Graham crackers?
06:46 - 06:50
And so, um, G chose graham crackers.
06:50 - 06:54
And so if they had time and they had finished
06:55 - 06:55
all their snacks.
06:55 - 06:58
Sometimes Mrs Guzman would be like, Okay, you could have
06:58 - 07:00
a few goldfish if you wanted to.
07:00 - 07:02
Since you did a good job eating.
07:02 - 07:03
And we have some time.
07:04 - 07:07
And so student k was like, Oh, I finished my
07:07 - 07:08
graham crackers.
07:09 - 07:11
I would really like some goldfish, please.
07:12 - 07:15
And I was kind of like, Okay, But then, Mrs
07:15 - 07:17
Guys woman was like, Well, we really have to go.
07:18 - 07:25
And so immediately, student K just started, like, like coughing
07:26 - 07:29
and like being like, no, like, And it was something
07:29 - 07:30
that I had never seen before.
07:31 - 07:35
And so Mrs G really had Thio like, take him
07:35 - 07:35
off to the side.
07:35 - 07:37
I really didn't hear what was going on.
07:38 - 07:38
Sorry. Money.
07:39 - 07:45
Um, uh, yes, my laundry alarm was going off.
07:46 - 07:51
Um, but eso I really didn't hear what she kind
07:51 - 07:52
of said to him.
07:52 - 07:54
But it was something that I had never really experienced
07:55 - 07:57
with him, and it was kind of like a reaction
07:58 - 08:01
to like, I am not going to take no for
08:01 - 08:04
an answer, but he kind of had to because we
08:04 - 08:05
had to get ready to leave.
08:06 - 08:11
Um, so that kind of leads me into student Kate
08:11 - 08:11
in the future.
08:12 - 08:16
And so something that I really like kind of wrote
08:17 - 08:19
about in, like this summary and like to the parent
08:19 - 08:23
and stuff Waas like whenever it was like social emotional
08:24 - 08:26
activities for 48 month olds.
08:27 - 08:28
Which is what student K.
08:28 - 08:31
Waas I said, Your child is learning more and more
08:32 - 08:33
about rules but still needs reminders.
08:34 - 08:37
Talk to your family about talk about your family rules,
08:37 - 08:41
keep them short and simple and be consistent And, um
08:42 - 08:45
not saying that they don't enforce rules at home.
08:45 - 08:47
But I was just saying that it seems like student
08:47 - 08:52
K really works better if, like, there's like a consistency
08:53 - 08:53
with the rules.
08:54 - 08:58
Um, like, he works really well with the positive reinforcement.
08:59 - 09:04
Um, obviously, he, um like, I don't think he's really
09:04 - 09:06
been told no often at snack.
09:06 - 09:10
So I think maybe that was kind of like because
09:10 - 09:12
we were running short on time and usually we don't
09:12 - 09:14
And he was told No, like, maybe that was just
09:14 - 09:17
kind of like a reaction, like he's like, not used
09:18 - 09:18
to being told.
09:18 - 09:23
No. And so, like in that aspect, So, um, I
09:23 - 09:28
just felt like like keeping like consistent rules and kind
09:28 - 09:32
of reinforcing them and, um, keeping them short.
09:33 - 09:35
And like giving a reminder to the students a lot,
09:36 - 09:40
I think would work really well with Student K because
09:40 - 09:41
he is such a good student.
09:41 - 09:45
But just those little reminders are just, like, really good
09:45 - 09:49
things that could help, like along throughout the day, be
09:49 - 09:55
like, Oh, yeah, I'm the like, I don't know, they
09:55 - 09:56
have different jobs during the day.
09:57 - 09:59
And so, like, I'm supposed to do this or I'm
09:59 - 10:00
not supposed to do this.
10:00 - 10:03
And like those constant reminders and having those things like
10:03 - 10:07
jobs in, like rules on the board is really good
10:07 - 10:08
for Student K.
10:08 - 10:13
Um, but like having these those clear routines and like
10:14 - 10:18
knowing what happens next also is another thing that I
10:18 - 10:19
feel like he works really well with.
10:19 - 10:23
And so just having, um, like a good schedule for
10:23 - 10:26
him on dso kind of a conclusion.
10:27 - 10:31
So that was like my recommendations and my letters and
10:31 - 10:32
something that I really noticed.
10:33 - 10:37
But altogether, Student K was really fun to observe, and
10:38 - 10:40
he was a really, really great student.
10:41 - 10:48
Um, he scored throughout the questionnaires really high and so
10:49 - 10:51
I wasn't really surprised by that because he was probably
10:52 - 10:56
the most successful learner, I guess, like in the classroom.
10:57 - 11:01
But, um, just because of his age and he's been
11:02 - 11:05
in there a couple years and he's really experiencing a
11:05 - 11:07
lot of these other kids is their first year or
11:09 - 11:10
they're just a lot quieter.
11:11 - 11:14
And so, um, not that That doesn't mean that they're
11:14 - 11:18
not good learners, but you could just say from how
11:18 - 11:23
he displays himself that and portrays himself like that score
11:23 - 11:27
would probably match up Thio how he actually is in
11:27 - 11:28
real life.
11:28 - 11:35
And so, yeah, I really think that student K is
11:35 - 11:37
going to do well, especially going into kindergarten.
11:38 - 11:43
Um, because he is so talkative and so eager to
11:43 - 11:47
learn. And so I think, by keeping up with those
11:47 - 11:50
activities and a consistent schedule is really going to be
11:50 - 11:51
good for him in his learning.
11:52 - 11:55
And, yeah, so it's been a lot of fun observing
11:56 - 11:59
him, and that's just kind of what I got from
11:59 - 12:02
the sq um SC.
12:03 - 12:05
In my observations at Cedar Canyon at the preschool classroom
