00:01 - 00:01
Hi all.
00:01 - 00:04
Welcome to my podcast where I'll be talking about some
00:05 - 00:08
of my ideas and vision for what the future of
00:09 - 00:13
education and schooling looks like for me, I emphasize vision
00:14 - 00:17
because I understand that much of this is um not
00:17 - 00:20
a reality, but I believe as teachers, we can work
00:21 - 00:25
towards um achieving this in this picture.
00:26 - 00:28
We can see there is diversity and this is something
00:29 - 00:31
that we have talked about a lot in it.
00:31 - 00:36
Obviously exists in our classrooms, schools, towns and cities, provinces,
00:37 - 00:39
countries and on an international level.
00:40 - 00:46
And unfortunately throughout history, these differences between us have had
00:46 - 00:50
social and economic consequences and have often resulted in conflict.
00:50 - 00:54
In fact, very rarely have we had any kind of
00:54 - 00:58
global unity and peace and appends me to say.
00:58 - 01:01
But unfortunately I don't see this becoming much of a
01:02 - 01:05
reality in my lifetime, at least due to obligations of
01:06 - 01:07
power and wealth.
01:07 - 01:12
And again, I emphasize that it is my my vision
01:13 - 01:18
for a more peaceful uh and sustainable future.
01:18 - 01:22
And I think as a teacher, we can promote this
01:23 - 01:26
uh in our schools um and and for our students
01:27 - 01:30
and they may be not be able to have an
01:30 - 01:33
immediate impact on the world, but they can have an
01:33 - 01:37
impact on their families um as mothers fathers um and
01:37 - 01:37
on their communities.
01:38 - 01:42
And I think this is hugely hugely valuable, I think
01:43 - 01:45
um how do we go about doing this?
01:46 - 01:50
It's it's really important to establish some kind of international
01:50 - 01:54
and worldly curriculum and that is especially language and culture
01:55 - 01:59
intensive. I think an understanding and celebration of diversity as
02:00 - 02:03
noted in this image, promote equality and unity.
02:04 - 02:08
I think it's important to have that understanding um of
02:08 - 02:12
our differences and how we can use these differences to
02:13 - 02:16
unite towards a common goal and for me that common
02:16 - 02:20
goal has to be peace and sustainability for for our
02:20 - 02:24
future. I think within this core kind of curriculum, it's
02:25 - 02:29
also important uh this core curriculum that is kind of
02:29 - 02:31
geared towards a sustainable future.
02:33 - 02:37
It's important to still inspire individual individuality and excellence.
02:38 - 02:42
And I think this can be done through promotion of
02:43 - 02:50
differentiated and individualized learning um and also promoting um individual
02:51 - 02:52
as well as group projects.
02:53 - 02:55
I think it's also important within this curriculum to have
02:56 - 03:00
varied subject choices and for the curriculum to be research
03:01 - 03:01
and tech heavy.
03:03 - 03:08
Um if we're going to inspire students um to have
03:08 - 03:12
a positive impact on their communities and uh to work
03:12 - 03:16
towards a sustainable future together, it's important to learn with
03:16 - 03:19
nature and to have an understanding and knowledge of the
03:19 - 03:24
importance that nature and the environment can have um on
03:25 - 03:29
our lives and on the future of humanity and to
03:30 - 03:34
understand and and research and think about ways to preserve
03:35 - 03:36
and and benefit from nature.
03:37 - 03:39
And again, this doesn't have to be on a, on
03:39 - 03:42
a global and international front and making changes in that
03:42 - 03:46
regard, but it can just be within our schools, within
03:46 - 03:49
our communities and at home, I think to add to
03:49 - 03:52
this, it's a good, it's a good way segment to
03:53 - 03:57
bring in collaborative work I think, working together with um
03:58 - 04:03
with teachers, homeroom teachers, um school school directors and principles,
04:04 - 04:08
parents and also people working in the community with the
04:08 - 04:13
school to understand what's best for the school um and
04:14 - 04:16
what's best for the community and to be able to
04:16 - 04:19
work towards that in a collaborative manner I think is
04:19 - 04:20
hugely beneficial.
04:22 - 04:26
Yeah. And lastly, I just like to emphasize the um
04:27 - 04:29
well the importance that I would place on extra curricular
04:30 - 04:35
activities for developing and developing skills and competencies that we
04:35 - 04:39
may not be able to see or promote too much
04:39 - 04:41
um to a greater extent in the classroom.
04:42 - 04:46
And I think um such activities like such as physical
04:47 - 04:56
activities camps, uh group camps, community development environment, environmental protection,
04:58 - 05:03
such as beach cleanups, cleaning up the streets, um and
05:03 - 05:08
even growing vegetables at the school, vegetables and herbs at
05:08 - 05:12
the school can really play a big part in in
05:12 - 05:15
making us better people and leaders in our communities that
05:15 - 05:19
are striving towards a common goal, which as I said,
05:20 - 05:21
is a more peace
