Hello. My name is Katie Evans. The date is April 15, 2022 and the password is Eagle.
00:08 - 00:13
Hello, have you ever wanted to pick up a craft? But didn't really know where to start.
00:13 - 00:17
Well you're in luck knitting is actually a really fun craft to begin with.
00:17 - 00:19
And you get some cozy items along the way.
00:19 - 00:22
Let's talk about the most important thing when it comes to knitting.
00:22 - 00:26
Remember to be patient, knitting takes a lot of practice.
00:26 - 00:30
You're gonna make a lot of mistakes so don't be afraid to start all over
00:31 - 00:33
some of the items that you'll need to pick up
00:33 - 00:37
from your local craft store are some super chunky yarn.
00:37 - 00:40
This is actually what it's called inside the store. Super chunky yarn.
00:41 - 00:43
In addition you'll also need some knitting needles.
00:43 - 00:47
Now you want to go for larger needles and larger yarn because it's going to
00:47 - 00:51
allow you to accomplish more on your scarf in a shorter amount of time.
00:53 - 00:56
Before you begin knitting you're gonna want to cast on.
00:56 - 01:00
So how you do that is you grab your tail, this is the tail right here.
01:01 - 01:03
We're going to loop the tail around your thumb and
01:03 - 01:05
point your finger and then hold it in your palm.
01:05 - 01:07
Remember to keep tension.
01:08 - 01:10
Then you're gonna take your needle your going to loop it through your
01:10 - 01:16
thumb and point your finger through the loop around your thumb and then underneath
01:16 - 01:19
then one on your pointer finger and then pull tight.
01:19 - 01:21
That's already two stitches right there.
01:22 - 01:25
You're going to continue this motion until you have about 10 stitches
01:25 - 01:29
total and that'll end up being your first row on your project
01:30 - 01:33
and eventually you'll get super fast in it and very impressive.
01:34 - 01:38
Now let's talk about when you're actually doing the knitting the fun part,
01:39 - 01:40
tune it as you can tell.
01:40 - 01:43
I've already provided quite a few stitches here as an example.
01:43 - 01:44
Again,
01:44 - 01:48
you can see how the larger needle and the larger yarn allows for the
01:48 - 01:53
scarf to be more flexible to be cushy er softer and more comfortable.
01:53 - 01:55
You're gonna take your right hand needle,
01:55 - 01:58
your going to loop it through the first stitch on the left,
01:59 - 02:01
then you're gonna take your tail and you're going
02:01 - 02:04
to wrap it around the right needle towards you.
02:04 - 02:09
You're gonna drop the loop around the right and then drop the loop around the left.
02:09 - 02:15
So again it goes through the needle on your left, wrapping around towards you.
02:15 - 02:19
Drop on the right, drop on the left through the loop
02:19 - 02:20
wrap,
02:20 - 02:22
Drop there you go,
02:22 - 02:27
you're going to continue this motion until you have about 10 stitches total.
02:27 - 02:32
And again, eventually you'll get super fast and very impressive.
02:33 - 02:36
Now let's talk about what to do when you've completed your scarf.
02:36 - 02:40
So you've gone through all of your yarn and you're ready to cast off
02:41 - 02:43
to cast off your going to do essentially the
02:43 - 02:45
same process as you would when you're knitting,
02:45 - 02:47
you're going to add one more crucial step.
02:48 - 02:50
So again, the needle goes through the first stitch,
02:50 - 02:54
your going to wrap it towards you, drop it on the right, drop it on the left,
02:55 - 02:59
but then you're going to take the stitch that came directly before that one,
02:59 - 03:02
you're going to lift it up and over the right needle.
03:02 - 03:04
So loop
03:04 - 03:08
wrap, drop and drop and then take the stitch before
03:09 - 03:12
and then goes up and over and you can continue
03:12 - 03:17
this motion until you've gone through the entire row.
03:18 - 03:19
Like so
03:20 - 03:24
and then just remember to get the very last one up and over.
03:24 - 03:29
Then when you do this you'll end up with a really clean edge just like that
03:29 - 03:30
see.
03:30 - 03:35
So that'll be the end of your scarf and then eventually you'll have a nice long
03:35 - 03:39
kind of clean edge right here that you can wrap around you and be super cozy.
03:39 - 03:42
Remember when it comes to knitting the most important thing
03:42 - 03:45
is to be patient and allow yourself to make mistakes.
03:45 - 03:49
You're going to cast on by wrapping around your thumb and pointer finger.
03:49 - 03:52
You're going to knit by bringing the right needle through the left,
03:53 - 03:56
wrap it and then drop and then when you cast off your going through that same
03:56 - 04:00
process but you're going to bring the last stitch up and over the right needle.
04:00 - 04:04
So that way you get that nice clean edge. Remember to have fun and thank you. So
