00:00 - 00:03
So this week we're going to talk about areas for
00:03 - 00:11
improvement process areas that typically nurses will see that maybe
00:12 - 00:21
administration does not in ways that we understand specifically that
00:22 - 00:24
are Uh huh.
00:25 - 00:30
Maybe administrators wouldn't understand or that other faculty members wouldn't
00:30 - 00:37
understand. So first off what we'll talk about is Mhm.
00:38 - 00:41
My experience as an agency nurse, I have a very
00:41 - 00:42
unique perspective.
00:43 - 00:47
I have many different hospitals under my belt and I
00:48 - 00:52
have a very good sense of what works and what
00:52 - 00:53
does not work.
00:53 - 01:00
Uh There are multiple EMR systems as far as Megatech,
01:01 - 01:03
Epic Cerner being my favorite.
01:04 - 01:08
I will say that and then there's also programs that
01:08 - 01:12
are purchased to go along with each one of those
01:12 - 01:22
systems that either enhance or take away from those systems
01:23 - 01:30
that being said those systems are nothing without their IT
01:30 - 01:34
department now not all it departments are created equal.
01:35 - 01:43
Some hospitals have better it departments some have less members
01:43 - 01:47
of it and that can really make a big difference
01:48 - 01:53
in how nurses are able to function on a day
01:53 - 01:53
to day basis.
01:55 - 01:58
Mhm. Yeah.
01:59 - 02:05
Yeah. The functionality of your EMR system is not only
02:05 - 02:09
important but the type of package that the hospital purchases
02:10 - 02:11
is fundamental.
02:11 - 02:12
It's crucial.
02:13 - 02:17
The area that we can that I see a lot
02:17 - 02:18
of hospitals can improve on.
02:19 - 02:25
Is that the way that they deliver medications?
02:26 - 02:29
Yeah. Yeah.
02:31 - 02:32
Yeah. Yeah.
02:33 - 02:39
Yeah, particularly in the center system medications can be delivered
02:39 - 02:43
one of two ways either through the omni cell function
02:44 - 02:50
um which is the best, most efficient way of medication
02:50 - 02:54
delivery, you order up the medication through your cow or
02:54 - 02:54
your, wow.
02:55 - 02:57
You go to the bedroom, you've already ordered that medication
02:58 - 03:02
under that particular patient, You go into the pixies, that
03:02 - 03:06
medication pops up under that patient's name and they are
03:06 - 03:07
ready to go for that patient.
03:10 - 03:14
This is the most time saving method of every method
03:14 - 03:16
I've seen any hospital I've worked at.
03:17 - 03:25
There's other Cerner prescription medication draw ups that you are
03:25 - 03:29
in the patient chart in the actual bedroom and you
03:29 - 03:32
have to pick out each medication one at a time.
03:33 - 03:35
That takes an extensive amount of time.
03:35 - 03:38
You have a line of nurses in the bedroom waiting
03:39 - 03:41
to get to each patient and you have to do
03:42 - 03:43
each patient one at a time.
03:43 - 03:45
This takes an incredible amount of time.
03:45 - 03:47
Now you think about this.
03:47 - 03:50
The functionality of Cerner has not changed one way or
03:50 - 03:50
the other.
03:51 - 03:55
However, it is the extension package that they have purchased
03:56 - 03:56
for their prescriptions.
03:57 - 04:05
That has changed therefore it is just that small adaptation
04:06 - 04:11
that has really enhanced the entire experience especially among nurses
04:12 - 04:16
and then changes it to the point that it really
04:18 - 04:18
saves time.
04:19 - 04:23
It saves money and that nurses are not working overtime
04:23 - 04:25
because we're not standing in line waiting to get our
04:25 - 04:26
medications up.
04:27 - 04:30
Um And that definitely could be a process improvement for
04:30 - 04:31
a lot of different hospitals.
04:32 - 04:34
So that's my presentation for this week.
04:34 - 04:36
Everybody have a great week.
04:36 - 04:37
Thanks bye guys
