00:00 - 00:01
Hello, everyone.
00:01 - 00:05
Welcome to Tuesday's Assembly Today you can see next to
00:05 - 00:09
me. I have our value off love, love God's world
00:09 - 00:10
in which we share.
00:11 - 00:13
So I've been thinking quite a lot over the last
00:14 - 00:17
week whilst we've been doing anti bullying week, how sometimes
00:18 - 00:21
we don't get on, but actually, our value of love
00:21 - 00:22
is really important.
00:23 - 00:26
Love to all of God's world in cute, including all
00:26 - 00:26
of mankind.
00:27 - 00:30
And that's whether it's people we know people we get
00:30 - 00:32
on with or people we've never met before.
00:32 - 00:37
But it's about showing compassion on humility, to care for
00:37 - 00:37
one another.
00:39 - 00:41
Now, as I said, I've been thinking about that a
00:41 - 00:44
lot. Anyway, last week and then Friday afternoon, whilst I
00:44 - 00:47
was in Year six, we looked.
00:48 - 00:50
We were looking at stories from the Bible from the
00:50 - 00:54
Gospels on we came across the story of the Centurion
00:55 - 01:00
Servant, which is Luke Chapter seven, which gives good examples
01:01 - 01:04
of how even when you can be on different sides,
01:05 - 01:08
you can show love and care for another human.
01:09 - 01:11
So I'm going to read this story to you today.
01:11 - 01:12
Your six.
01:12 - 01:12
Of course.
01:12 - 01:14
I hope you remember this because it was only Friday
01:15 - 01:15
afternoon that we looked.
01:16 - 01:19
Tip. There was a Roman soldier who lived in the
01:20 - 01:21
Army barracks at Cape in.
01:21 - 01:24
Um, he had heard about Jesus and his wonderful miracles
01:25 - 01:27
that he had performed on When his servant became very
01:28 - 01:30
ill. He believed that Jesus was his only hope.
01:32 - 01:34
The Roman soldier was an important man.
01:34 - 01:38
He was a centurion who had 100 men under his
01:38 - 01:41
command. He could have marched straight up to Jesus and
01:41 - 01:42
demanded his attention.
01:43 - 01:44
I need your help.
01:44 - 01:44
But once.
01:45 - 01:47
But the soldier had respect for others.
01:48 - 01:49
On was a very humble man.
01:50 - 01:51
Despite being a centurion.
01:53 - 01:53
I am a foreigner.
01:54 - 01:56
He thought I cannot ask Jesus for his health.
01:57 - 01:58
I'll send my Jewish friends.
01:59 - 02:01
So some of the Jewish elders of the synagogue came
02:01 - 02:04
to Jesus and said, Please help the Centurion.
02:04 - 02:07
He has shown us great love and care and even
02:07 - 02:08
paid for our synagogue.
02:09 - 02:10
I will visit him immediately.
02:11 - 02:11
Jesus promised.
02:12 - 02:15
But when the centurion heard that the great teacher was
02:15 - 02:17
on his way, he sent this message.
02:18 - 02:20
Lord, don't take the trouble to come to my home
02:21 - 02:23
yourself. I do not deserve to have you under my
02:24 - 02:27
roof. Which is why I have sent messengers to you.
02:27 - 02:28
Just say the word.
02:29 - 02:30
I am a soldier on.
02:30 - 02:33
I obey orders while the men under may obey my
02:34 - 02:37
orders. I simply say, do this and the men do
02:37 - 02:39
it. I say, Come here.
02:40 - 02:40
And they come at once.
02:42 - 02:45
Jesus was amazed that the man believed so deeply in
02:45 - 02:49
his power, trusting him to heal the servant without even
02:49 - 02:49
seeing him.
02:51 - 02:52
Look at the faith of this man.
02:52 - 02:56
Jesus said to his disciples, this man who is considered
02:56 - 03:00
an enemy has greater faith in anyone I have met
03:00 - 03:00
in the whole of Israel.
03:01 - 03:05
When the centurion went to his servants room, he found
03:05 - 03:06
that the man was alive and well.
03:07 - 03:09
He was completely cured off his illness.
03:12 - 03:17
Okay, so a really good example there from the Bible
03:18 - 03:22
of how two sides can work together can ask for
03:22 - 03:29
help. Now, when In Year six We were looking at
03:29 - 03:34
this story, we were thinking We're also thinking about the
03:34 - 03:36
10 Commandments on dhe.
03:37 - 03:39
What that means now, Whilst this isn't a 10 commandment,
03:39 - 03:42
we felt that this this came from the 10 Commandments,
03:43 - 03:45
that we should treated a ZX.
03:45 - 03:47
We wish to be treated now.
03:48 - 03:51
I think it's fair to say that we all would
03:51 - 03:55
like to be treated with love with care, with kindness,
03:56 - 03:58
with understanding on with humility.
04:03 - 04:05
So I'd like you to just take a moment now
04:05 - 04:08
to think back to your pledge that you made last
04:08 - 04:11
week. They're all nearly ready to go up on the
04:11 - 04:12
wall in the hall.
04:12 - 04:15
You may have seen the blank board that say's united
04:16 - 04:16
against bullying.
04:17 - 04:20
So I want you to just quietly take a moment
04:21 - 04:21
on Dhe.
04:21 - 04:24
Think of that pledge you made because that's one of
04:24 - 04:27
the ways that you Conshohocken love to people.
04:30 - 04:41
Oh, okay, So having thought about that, I know lots
04:41 - 04:45
of people talked about they were going to be a
04:45 - 04:46
defender against bullying behavior.
04:48 - 04:51
Andi, I just wanted you to think about what does
04:51 - 04:52
that actually mean?
04:53 - 04:56
Because sometimes I mean, when someone says defender to May
04:57 - 04:58
I think about someone in a football team.
04:59 - 05:03
I think about the job of trying toe defend goals
05:03 - 05:04
going into the net.
05:06 - 05:11
So it's about stopping something, but actually in terms of
05:11 - 05:15
in our school or at home or out in the
05:15 - 05:18
wider world, what does that actually mean?
05:19 - 05:21
Your teacher might want to pause this video now to
05:21 - 05:24
have a few minutes reflection or talk time.
05:28 - 05:30
Okay, I'm sure you came up with lots of great
05:31 - 05:35
ideas, But some of the key qualities that in school
05:35 - 05:37
that we're looking for is if you're being a defender,
05:38 - 05:43
is that if you see a behavior that isn't okay,
05:44 - 05:47
You tell that person to stop you go and get
05:48 - 05:48
an adult.
05:48 - 05:51
So you get that support there, you check that the
05:51 - 05:55
person that is upset is Okay, so those are three
05:55 - 05:57
things that you can do.
05:57 - 06:00
But I'm sure you came up with other things in
06:00 - 06:00
your list.
06:01 - 06:03
A ZX Well, okay.
06:04 - 06:07
I'm just going to finish with a poem today as
06:07 - 06:07
our prayer.
06:08 - 06:11
So I'd like you to listen carefully on if you
06:11 - 06:13
agree at the end.
06:13 - 06:13
Of course.
06:14 - 06:18
Please do say our men to show you care for
06:18 - 06:22
someone is to lend a helping hand a need to
06:22 - 06:26
be concerned for every woman, child and man share whatever
06:27 - 06:28
you can to help someone in need.
06:29 - 06:32
Then you will be had a happier on better person.
06:32 - 06:37
Indeed. When you share with others, you give unselfishly giving
06:38 - 06:42
yourself. Then love is given freely instead of sitting on
06:42 - 06:46
the shelf Hands are always clenched Nothing can ever get
06:47 - 06:50
out Once that are open on Give is what love
06:51 - 06:53
is all about All men.
06:54 - 06:57
I hope you enjoyed that poem that really made me
06:57 - 06:58
smile. Okay.
06:58 - 06:59
Thank you for listening.
07:00 - 07:03
And I will see you again tomorrow for Wednesday's assembly.
07:04 - 07:05
Bye bye for now.
