00:01 - 00:05
Hi, my name is Katie Stover and this is my post course reflection.
00:09 - 00:09
All right.
00:09 - 00:12
How is your understanding of the roles
00:12 - 00:14
and purposes of art and technology in education
00:14 - 00:16
changed art and technology are not just
00:16 - 00:19
amazing tools that further participation and interest,
00:19 - 00:22
but they are also a necessity
00:24 - 00:28
without creativity. We wouldn't have the TV, shows, movies and entertainment.
00:28 - 00:29
We so enjoy today
00:29 - 00:32
without it, we probably wouldn't have technology.
00:32 - 00:34
The technology that we have today,
00:37 - 00:40
art and technology are what keeps our society growing and evolving.
00:40 - 00:43
Not only do art and technology, keep a tool,
00:44 - 00:48
not only art and technology, a tool that keeps class engaged,
00:48 - 00:52
but it's also a tool to further understanding and spark creativity about the world,
00:52 - 00:53
about how the world works
00:53 - 00:55
around them and how they can change it.
01:00 - 01:04
What have you learned about using technology to teach steam and stem?
01:04 - 01:10
So I have learned that it is actually rather easy to um focus
01:10 - 01:12
uh integrate technology as most of the
01:12 - 01:16
lesson plans focus on technological applications.
01:16 - 01:19
Um Most of them have the students participating
01:19 - 01:23
um in some type of research um virtual lab
01:23 - 01:24
um
01:24 - 01:29
or uh simply using the technology to create a new product.
01:29 - 01:34
Um I have found that it is much harder to incorporate art into these lessons.
01:34 - 01:41
However, um the steam since it does have the art component um is a little bit easier to
01:41 - 01:44
um integrate the art into that.
01:49 - 01:51
What have you learned about using technology to
01:51 - 01:54
teach social studies and English language arts?
01:54 - 01:59
Um Well, it's not as hard as it sounds, however, it is still rather challenging.
02:01 - 02:02
So art um
02:03 - 02:07
when it comes to art, subjects like social studies and English language, arts,
02:07 - 02:10
it is much easier to include the arts rather than technology.
02:10 - 02:11
Um
02:12 - 02:15
Simply because you can have students um
02:15 - 02:17
reenact do um
02:17 - 02:21
role plays. Um You, you're tending to read more
02:21 - 02:22
um
02:22 - 02:24
uh playwrights and things like that.
02:25 - 02:27
Um There's a little bit more, you know,
02:27 - 02:30
you can have fun with words and things of that nature.
02:30 - 02:35
So um it's a little bit easier to do art than technology. However,
02:35 - 02:40
um as we move through a um digital society,
02:40 - 02:44
um social studies and technology are becoming more of one
02:44 - 02:47
social studies is about how citizens interact within a community
02:47 - 02:49
and how the community came to be.
02:49 - 02:50
So,
02:50 - 02:53
um the same can be demonstrated with technology and
02:53 - 02:56
I believe eventually will become one and the same subject
02:56 - 02:58
as more and more communities interact online.
02:58 - 03:02
And as the media continues to dictate the social values,
03:02 - 03:06
I think we're gonna look more um to social studies to teach that
03:06 - 03:08
digital citizenship. And um
03:09 - 03:10
I think we're going to see that
03:11 - 03:17
we're going to have a um social studies unit where we talk about how,
03:17 - 03:18
you know, um
03:19 - 03:22
social medias became a thing and how that
03:22 - 03:25
community operates and how it became a
03:25 - 03:26
community.
03:31 - 03:31
Um
03:32 - 03:34
What do you still need to learn about using
03:34 - 03:36
technology in education and how will you learn it,
03:37 - 03:39
the different types of uh technology resources at my
03:39 - 03:42
disposal in my school district and at my school.
03:43 - 03:46
So those are things that I still need to um brush myself up on
03:47 - 03:52
and those can be um that research can be attained by um attending public
03:52 - 03:57
school district forums and um also by discussing it with my school's it department.
03:58 - 04:02
Um I'm also always on the lookout for um
04:02 - 04:05
different things in classrooms that make life easier.
04:05 - 04:08
Um I'm a hard worker but I definitely
04:09 - 04:09
um
04:10 - 04:12
enjoy working harder when
04:13 - 04:15
it's easier if that makes sense. So um
04:16 - 04:17
I am always
04:18 - 04:22
looking to see how we can work smarter, not harder because I,
04:22 - 04:24
I am um who is working hard.
04:25 - 04:27
Um And so
04:28 - 04:31
yeah, I'm always on the lookout for designs that make working easier.
04:31 - 04:36
Um And to be honest, more enjoyable. And so I think technology does this a lot.
04:36 - 04:39
Um That's why we have technology and new inventions
04:39 - 04:41
because people are always thinking of this way.
04:41 - 04:44
So the best way I found this is through social medias like tiktok,
04:44 - 04:45
Facebook and Pinterest.
04:45 - 04:48
Um and lastly through observations of other classes.
04:48 - 04:54
Um so I utilize social media. Um, when you find something that
04:54 - 04:58
usually it's um, on a topic of like, are you just tired of?
04:58 - 05:01
It's like a gimmick or something? We're like, are you just tired of
05:01 - 05:03
having this, um,
05:03 - 05:04
problem?
05:04 - 05:07
And I'm like, yeah, I do have that problem and usually they're like, well,
05:07 - 05:08
I found the solution
05:09 - 05:13
and so, um, I think the same can be said of technology of like, hey,
05:13 - 05:16
there's got to be something out there that would fix this problem.
05:16 - 05:17
And so, um
05:18 - 05:23
I think just going to social media platforms like that where
05:23 - 05:27
teachers get to share what works best in their classroom and how
05:27 - 05:30
they came across it. Um I think is really cool.
05:31 - 05:34
And so I think um also through observing other classes, other classes,
05:34 - 05:36
like I know, um
05:36 - 05:41
some of our classes this year got a promethean board, I've never seen one in use.
05:41 - 05:43
Um But I bet you it would be really cool to sit in a class.
05:43 - 05:47
So, um observation of other classes to see how they use their technology.
05:47 - 05:48
Um
05:48 - 05:51
And so yes, that's my post course, reflection. Thank you
05:52 - 05:54
for watching. And I hope you have a great day.
