00:01 - 00:05
Hi guys, I did my research paper on cyber bullying.
00:06 - 00:09
So um to talk about cyber bulling, I first want
00:09 - 00:10
to give you guys an accurate definition.
00:12 - 00:16
Mr Um cyberbullying is defined as the willful and repeated
00:17 - 00:21
harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones and
00:21 - 00:22
other electronic devices.
00:23 - 00:29
All 50 states in the us have um laws regarding
00:29 - 00:30
bullying in some manner.
00:32 - 00:38
44 of those states have laws specific to bullying in
00:39 - 00:39
electronic form.
00:40 - 00:46
All states have school policies regarding cyberbullying, but not all
00:47 - 00:53
of them have policies about off campus incidences.
00:55 - 00:58
So this makes it um, a bit more difficult for
00:59 - 01:04
teachers and school leaders to get involved because most um,
01:06 - 01:09
you know, most of cyber bullying incidents is take place
01:10 - 01:14
um when kids are not on school grounds, so it's
01:15 - 01:22
difficult for educators to really help with these problems um
01:22 - 01:25
once they've already occurred because it's not like teachers, hopefully
01:26 - 01:33
teachers aren't viewing um their students social media platforms, if
01:33 - 01:37
they were to come across something um inappropriate and concerning.
01:38 - 01:41
The best thing to do is write it down and
01:42 - 01:46
report it to whoever is above you because you don't
01:46 - 01:50
want to download inappropriate content like that to any of
01:50 - 01:50
your devices.
01:52 - 01:54
Um This means that the parents play a big role
01:55 - 01:58
in um monitoring what their students are doing online.
02:01 - 02:03
Yeah, so with that, I want to talk about how
02:04 - 02:09
um cyberbullying affects shooting learning because it can take a
02:09 - 02:13
serious toll on their mental health um if a teacher
02:13 - 02:16
can visibly see that a student is struggling, they definitely
02:16 - 02:21
have the, you know authority to reach out and ask
02:22 - 02:22
if they want to talk about anything.
02:23 - 02:29
This, we're creating like a positive classroom environment comes into
02:29 - 02:31
play, like you want to make sure your classroom into
02:31 - 02:34
city space, so if a student is going through something
02:35 - 02:40
um such a cyberbullying they feel confident to tell you
02:41 - 02:45
and um no that you'll do the right thing with
02:45 - 02:46
the information they provide you.
02:47 - 02:53
Yeah, if they do tell you something you are required
02:53 - 02:57
to report it to, who has ever is in charge,
02:57 - 03:00
um parents will most likely be contacted at this point
03:01 - 03:04
and maybe even legal action depending on the severity of
03:04 - 03:04
the situation.
03:07 - 03:09
Um I wanted to talk about cyberbullying today because I
03:09 - 03:13
feel like the words cyberbullying has such a negative connotation
03:14 - 03:17
around it, like it's not taken very seriously and um
03:17 - 03:20
it is a big deal in today's society, like the
03:20 - 03:25
amount of negativity on the internet um impacts us, it
03:25 - 03:26
impacts everyone.
03:26 - 03:29
It um you know, had a huge impact on me
03:30 - 03:32
when I was going through middle school.
03:32 - 03:34
I don't have any social media to this day because
03:34 - 03:34
of it.
03:35 - 03:38
Um I occasionally go on youtube to watch educational videos
03:39 - 03:41
and I see my brief time on there, like I'll
03:42 - 03:46
see um you know, I mean comments and I just
03:46 - 03:48
think it's such a good thing to create awareness about
03:48 - 03:51
this and I mean with that being said, there are
03:51 - 03:56
many positive aspects to the internet community to um so
03:58 - 04:04
as a future educator, I want to encourage positive usage
04:05 - 04:10
of Internet of the Internet and yeah, create safe spaces
04:10 - 04:13
for people to talk about what they're dealing with and
04:13 - 04:17
how it impacts them because um, the future use of
04:17 - 04:21
technology is inevitable, like it's going to be um our
04:21 - 04:25
future. So just, you know, talking about how we can
04:25 - 04:29
use it a positive way and help those that are
04:29 - 04:33
experiencing the negative aspects of it.
