00:02 - 00:05
for my project, I chose to create a full service
00:06 - 00:11
counseling center for adolescent girls to receive help for mental
00:11 - 00:13
health and mental illness.
00:14 - 00:16
Um, I decided to name it.
00:16 - 00:19
Shaping the youth and the hours of operation are 8
00:20 - 00:24
a.m. to 10 p.m. The whole idea behind this is
00:24 - 00:30
that many adolescents, um, struggle with their mental health or,
00:31 - 00:33
um, began to struggle with mental illness.
00:34 - 00:38
And it can be hard to find a safe, comfortable
00:39 - 00:44
environment to talk about what's going on because a lot
00:44 - 00:48
of times it's hard to be vulnerable with parents or
00:48 - 00:51
at school with a counselor at school.
00:52 - 00:54
So having a place like this would make it a
00:54 - 00:59
lot easier for young girls to get the help that
00:59 - 01:00
they might need.
01:02 - 01:06
So the first room I chose to include is a
01:06 - 01:10
room where girls can go and get individual therapy.
01:11 - 01:15
Um, this is important because a lot of times adolescence
01:16 - 01:21
find it hard to be vulnerable with adults and discuss
01:22 - 01:27
what's going on, how they're feeling, um, besides with their
01:27 - 01:33
friends. So creating a bond with an individual therapist can
01:33 - 01:39
be really beneficial and important in, um, dealing with problems
01:40 - 01:44
in life and stress and anything else.
01:47 - 01:51
So the next room I choose to include is a
01:51 - 01:55
room centered around substance abuse counseling.
01:56 - 02:01
Um, some adolescents begin to struggle with alcohol or drug
02:01 - 02:05
abuse early on, and I think it's important to have
02:06 - 02:12
a space that is devoted to giving young girls education
02:13 - 02:15
on dhe help if they are struggling.
02:17 - 02:20
Eso That's what That's what this room is for, um
02:21 - 02:27
and yeah, So the next room I chose to include
02:28 - 02:32
is a room centered around eating disorders, because that could
02:32 - 02:36
be a really big thing for adolescent girls on Dhe,
02:36 - 02:40
not even just eating disorders, just disordered eating and body
02:41 - 02:41
image issues.
02:42 - 02:47
So this room will have counselors and nutritionists who can
02:47 - 02:50
come up with, ah, plan to help young girls live
02:51 - 02:57
a healthier lifestyle and, um, recover from their eating disorders
02:59 - 03:04
if they have, um, so the next room is a
03:04 - 03:06
room dedicated to group therapy.
03:07 - 03:11
Um, this, I thought, was really important because group therapy
03:12 - 03:13
can be a great way.
03:13 - 03:19
Thio form support systems friendships and relate to others who
03:19 - 03:24
face similar challenges and to show young adolescent girls that
03:24 - 03:26
they're not alone in Theis issues.
03:26 - 03:30
They may be facing and give them a space where
03:30 - 03:33
they can talk openly about what is going on with
03:33 - 03:38
others. Eso I listed a few groups that, um, would
03:38 - 03:42
be offered, like DVT II and a eating disorder, recovery
03:43 - 03:48
groups and just general like support groups and forming coping
03:48 - 03:53
skills. Um, so groups like that would be offered, and
03:53 - 03:56
I put a picture in of what the room would
03:57 - 03:57
look like.
03:59 - 04:04
So the next room is a room for psychiatrists and
04:05 - 04:07
getting medication that girls may need.
04:08 - 04:11
Um, I thought this was really important because it's an
04:11 - 04:13
important part of treating mental illness.
04:14 - 04:20
And if girls have access to the proper medications all
04:21 - 04:24
in the same place that they go to therapy and
04:24 - 04:27
find resource is, um, it would make it a lot
04:28 - 04:32
easier for them to be successful in taking and finding
04:33 - 04:34
the right medication for them.
04:35 - 04:36
So that's why I included this.
04:39 - 04:40
So the next room is a lounge.
04:42 - 04:44
The lounge would just be for homework.
04:44 - 04:47
It would have computers, and it would just be a
04:47 - 04:48
place for girls to hang out.
04:49 - 04:52
Um, I figured that it should be a positive environment
04:53 - 04:56
for girls to come, even if you know they might
04:56 - 04:59
be waiting to get resource is or meet with, like
05:00 - 05:03
their therapist, Um, they could come and hang out or
05:03 - 05:06
if they want to spend some extra time at the
05:06 - 05:10
facility. Um, that would be good, too, because not all
05:11 - 05:16
adolescents have a home that they feel comfortable to hang
05:16 - 05:16
out in.
05:17 - 05:21
And it's better than them hanging out with the wrong
05:22 - 05:25
people or doing the wrong things.
05:28 - 05:32
And so the last room I, um, included is the
05:32 - 05:38
Sandlin. It's just a calm room that has dim lighting
05:38 - 05:41
and beanbags and coloring books.
05:43 - 05:50
Zen music on Girls can relax in here, unwind, and
05:50 - 05:52
the whole idea is that it would be a really
05:53 - 05:57
quiet space, unlike the lounge where people would be talking
05:57 - 06:01
and this and that, Um, this would be for girls
06:02 - 06:06
to just relax private space where it's nice and quiet,
06:09 - 06:10
and that's it.
06:11 - 06:12
That's all the rooms I included.
06:13 - 06:14
And here's my references.
06:15 - 06:17
I also cited the pictures in here
