Hi Poets.
00:02 - 00:07
So last week we started diving into the world of
00:07 - 00:10
poetry a little bit and this weekend for the next
00:10 - 00:14
few weeks will continue to do so um today I'm
00:14 - 00:16
gonna show you how you will use your writing journal
00:17 - 00:17
for poetry.
00:17 - 00:21
So, open your writing journal um on the next empty
00:21 - 00:26
page, you can fold that page and maybe write poetry
00:27 - 00:28
on it so that you will know that a new
00:29 - 00:31
chapter in your writing journey is starting.
00:32 - 00:35
So from now on you will use your writing journal
00:35 - 00:36
to write poetry.
00:37 - 00:42
Um poetry is similar and different to the writing that
00:43 - 00:44
you have done so far.
00:45 - 00:45
But one thing is similar.
00:47 - 00:50
Poets use specific strategies, you know?
00:50 - 00:53
And for the next few weeks we're going to be
00:53 - 00:56
learning about the strategies that the poets used to write.
00:56 - 00:59
Just like with narrative writing small moments stories.
00:59 - 01:02
Poets always look into their hearts and they look around
01:03 - 01:05
them to find ideas.
01:06 - 01:10
Because poetry is hiding everywhere around You could be hiding
01:10 - 01:12
in your room, It could be hiding on your balcony.
01:12 - 01:14
It could be hiding under your bed.
01:15 - 01:18
If you look closely, you will find poetry there.
01:19 - 01:21
So, the first strategy that I wanted to share with
01:21 - 01:26
you today is this one poets find a topic that
01:26 - 01:28
gives them a big feeling.
01:29 - 01:31
Okay, so right now, I want to pause this video.
01:32 - 01:36
Close your eyes and think about what gives you a
01:36 - 01:37
big feeling.
01:38 - 01:43
Mm could be positive feeling like happiness and love and
01:43 - 01:47
excitement. It could be a negative feelings like sadness or
01:47 - 01:50
maybe loneliness or missing somebody.
01:50 - 01:54
All feelings have a place in poetry.
01:55 - 01:57
Okay, you've done it.
01:57 - 02:00
Excellent. So let's let me show you.
02:00 - 02:04
Um what gives me big feeling.
02:04 - 02:06
Okay, so you're going to make a list of all
02:07 - 02:08
the things that give you a big feeling.
02:09 - 02:12
And here is my list talking on the phone with
02:12 - 02:12
my family.
02:13 - 02:16
That gives me a feeling of happiness and connection, cooking
02:17 - 02:19
happiness again and sharing something with others.
02:20 - 02:24
Reading it makes me feel calm and excited because I
02:24 - 02:26
get to go into new worlds.
02:28 - 02:29
Creating art again.
02:29 - 02:31
Gives me a feeling of calm and creativity.
02:32 - 02:33
Taking care of my plants again.
02:34 - 02:37
Happiness, calm, caring, my friends struggling with problems.
02:38 - 02:39
That makes me feel sad.
02:40 - 02:44
Uh So right now, pause this video and open your
02:44 - 02:45
writing journal and make a list.
02:46 - 02:46
Okay, don't rush.
02:47 - 02:49
Close your eyes again if you need to and make
02:49 - 02:51
a list of all the things that give you big
02:52 - 02:54
feelings. All right?
02:54 - 02:56
And when you're done, you can uncross the video and
02:56 - 02:56
keep playing.
02:58 - 02:58
All right?
02:58 - 03:03
So after after you have created a list of those
03:04 - 03:05
topics that give you big feelings.
03:05 - 03:09
I want you to Choose one or two of those
03:09 - 03:11
topics and then close your eyes again.
03:12 - 03:14
Lots of eye closing lots of imagining in poetry.
03:15 - 03:18
And think about what thoughts and pictures come to your
03:18 - 03:20
mind when you think about this topic.
03:21 - 03:21
Uh huh.
03:22 - 03:25
So I picked here's what I picked.
03:26 - 03:30
I picked plants and I closed my eyes and I
03:30 - 03:33
imagined myself on my balcony and I kind of thought
03:34 - 03:36
about what I was doing today with my plans.
03:37 - 03:38
And this is the poor that I came up with
03:40 - 03:43
plants. I sit on my balcony and look at my
03:43 - 03:46
plants so green growing blooming.
03:47 - 03:50
What is that white fuzzy thing crawling all around?
03:51 - 03:52
Oh no bugs.
03:53 - 03:57
I get some oil and some cotton swaps carefully cleaning
03:57 - 03:58
each leaf.
03:58 - 04:04
Slowly, gently hoping for the best done back to growing
04:05 - 04:05
without distractions.
04:08 - 04:11
Okay, so this is one example of of what you
04:11 - 04:12
can do again.
04:12 - 04:15
Think about, imagine what pictures do you see in your
04:15 - 04:17
mind when you think about that topic, that gives you
04:17 - 04:17
a big feeling?
04:17 - 04:19
Okay, and here's my other example.
04:19 - 04:22
So I thought about my friends struggling with problems, you
04:23 - 04:25
know and I and I closed my eyes and I
04:25 - 04:27
thought about the pictures in my mind that are showing
04:28 - 04:28
up and my feelings.
04:29 - 04:29
What kind of feelings?
04:30 - 04:31
How can I express those feelings?
04:32 - 04:33
And here is what I wrote.
04:34 - 04:38
Friends, struggling and sadness is the feeling my heart is
04:38 - 04:43
breaking for my friends, laurels, baby is sick, Jesse's daughter
04:43 - 04:44
doesn't want to eat.
04:44 - 04:46
Catherine is moving to a new place.
04:47 - 04:50
I wish I had a magic wand to make all
04:50 - 04:51
their troubles go away.
04:52 - 04:56
In the meantime I listen when they share and send
04:56 - 04:57
all my love to them.
04:59 - 05:02
So, big feelings, big feelings in small small packages.
05:03 - 05:06
Those poems are like small little packages that really expressed
05:07 - 05:10
in very few words express a lot of emotions and
05:10 - 05:11
a lot of feelings.
05:11 - 05:14
So I hope you will enjoy doing that today.
05:14 - 05:16
All right, So here's what you're going to do today.
05:17 - 05:19
First in your writing journal, you will make a list
05:20 - 05:21
of topics that give you a big feeling.
05:22 - 05:24
They can be broad or very specific.
05:26 - 05:28
After you've done your list, you will choose two of
05:29 - 05:33
those topics and right to poems about each in your
05:33 - 05:33
writing journal.
05:34 - 05:35
Okay, not on scene in your writing journal.
05:36 - 05:38
And then you will post the picture of each poem
05:39 - 05:40
and the list on seaside.
05:41 - 05:45
All right, enjoy and I can't wait to reach your
05:45 - 05:45
bullets.
