  1. Hello,
  2. my name is Sasha Rivers and I will
  3. be doing a presentation on childhood anxiety disorder.
  4. What is childhood anxiety?
  5. Childhood anxiety disorder is common in Children,
  6. anxiety comes through changes in that child's life,
  7. the causes of childhood anxiety this out of disorder is making
  8. or moving into a new home.
  9. Some Children um get moved from place to place or from state to state, depending on,
  10. I guess the parents and their circumstance.
  11. Um it could also be parents or guardians that are ill if you have
  12. a parent that is sickly or a parent that may even be mentally challenged.
  13. Um that could be one of the
  14. reasons for the anxiety disorder in the child.
  15. Um stranger danger,
  16. we know that there's a lot of abductions going on
  17. in the world and Children do know about it.
  18. So that could be also a factor. Another factor is the internet, the internet
  19. um plays a major, major, major, major role.
  20. My belief that it plays a major,
  21. major role when it comes to childhood anxiety disorders because
  22. even though childhood anxieties can start at a young age,
  23. probably three or four or something like that, it can also lead into, you know,
  24. adolescence or adulthood or something like that.
  25. And getting into the internet facebook Snapchat, twitter, uh instagram,
  26. all of these things contribute to childhood anxiety disorder.
  27. Another um, one is drugs, drugs is something that is,
  28. could be used as a coping mechanism when it comes to the older at the adolescent um,
  29. Children that are dealing with anxiety.
  30. We also have terrorism, you know, making threats,
  31. threatening people or receiving them either and it can cause anxiety.
  32. Um, and of course parenthood problems,
  33. a parent that maybe struggling a parent that just may not have enough.
  34. Those could also be factors and issues when it comes to childhood anxiety disorder.
  35. A part of childhood uh, anxiety disorder is also bullying,
  36. bullying is dominating on her in a person that
  37. is less powerful and it is a repeated act.
  38. It's a repeated of threats, it's a repeat shin of intimidation. Like
  39. this person knows what they're doing,
  40. they're gonna continuously repeatedly do it.
  41. The types of bullying, we have our physical verbal relational or social,
  42. and there's also school bullying and cyberbullying.
  43. Um,
  44. we'll get in more in depth details into that in the next lot.
  45. Physical bullying.
  46. Physical bullying, um, is actions, actions that um,
  47. is intimidated or to gain control when the person is,
  48. I guess confronting the victim or um making the choice and
  49. the decision to physically put their hands on this person.
  50. That can be intimidating.
  51. That is definitely a sign of bullying,
  52. especially if the person is older or bigger or just more social.
  53. That could be one of the uh,
  54. a part of physical bullying.
  55. Another part of bullying is verbal bullying,
  56. verbal bullying is basically just using oral language using words,
  57. but the words are not nice words.
  58. The words of words that are hurtful words that are intimidating.
  59. Words that will cause you to basically shut down or to become shy or just to become,
  60. you know,
  61. disconnected from everybody else or your environment or
  62. whoever it is that you may be surrounding.
  63. Mhm
  64. relation to social bullying is um, something that really happens among girls. Um,
  65. they do what they can to try and hurt their friend or they pair,
  66. whether it may be teasing about a hairstyle or teething about shoes or nail color,
  67. the smallest fraction of things could come through with social bullying,
  68. especially if you are the popular kids and you have a lot of friends.
  69. Um, that can also cause a lot of social bullying because if you're the odd one out
  70. it will cause you to shut down and then it will give them access to feel like, hey,
  71. I could pick on this person.
  72. School bullying.
  73. School bullying is something that is really, really serious,
  74. school bullying is serious because it is happening in
  75. the environment where your parents is not around,
  76. you may have limited friends and
  77. it's just a lot of kids there.
  78. So um with school bullying,
  79. you're seeing this person every single day that you're going to school,
  80. you're having a intimidation every time you may even think
  81. about going to school and because of school bullying,
  82. students with emotional disturbances, drop um,
  83. drop out of high school is just probably
  84. something they're just like I cannot handle this,
  85. I cannot take this on, this is way too much for me,
  86. cyber bullying is basically the internet, it is used to computer cellphone,
  87. you know, social media again, facebook Snapchat, twitter,
  88. um instagram all of these sources of social media and cyber very
  89. um, is a form of bullying when you're throwing out threats,
  90. so you're teasing somebody or making them feel like they're unworthy.
  91. That is a form of bullying.
  92. Another effect of bullying is that it interferes with a person's daily life,
  93. the person may not feel like getting up, it's hard to function,
  94. they may not have to drive on a motivation
  95. to do what's needed of them to do throughout their
  96. time, whether it be in school or at home, they just can't focus.
  97. Um and then of course it's long term affecting and it goes into adulthood,
  98. you become shy, you become distant,
  99. you become questionable about people that
  100. you surround yourself with because you're not
  101. too sure of yourself because of the bullying that you have went through
  102. another part of childhood anxiety disorders as separation anxiety disorder.
  103. This is a disorder where um I know I experienced firsthand because I'm a teacher,
  104. I work with three year olds, um they,
  105. the, the separation of being away from their parents is serious, it is real,
  106. it is emotional, it could be traumatizing with separation anxiety,
  107. a child has to have, its like they feel like, oh my God,
  108. what's going to happen if my parents leave,
  109. what's going to happen to me or what's going to happen to my parent,
  110. the child may think like this.
  111. So it's best that when a child is going through separation anxiety,
  112. you provide as much comfort and understanding as you can for that child.
  113. And typically it happens around Children that are in preschool,
  114. right? They go to daycare.
  115. So again, like I said, my Children,
  116. some of my Children do have separation anxiety from their parents and it's all a
  117. comforting thing and talking to the child
  118. and then just giving them that reassurance.
  119. Treatment for childhood anxiety disorder is available.
  120. They have psychodynamic counseling, cognitive behavior therapy,
  121. they have drug therapy, they provide um anti depressants and anti psychotic drugs.
  122. But with the anti psychotic drugs, they do
  123. do physical, I'm not, I'm sorry, not physical psychotherapy as well.
  124. The combination of these two things is so that the child gets the help that is needed.
  125. The medication balances out and the psychotherapy,
  126. they're able to talk elevate and describe how it is that they're feeling.
  127. Another type of treatment is play therapy.
  128. Play therapy is when you basically take a challenge to
  129. a room and you're talking to them and you're like,
  130. hey,
  131. won't you color picture for me or won't you tell
  132. me a story or won't you play with a toy and
  133. the kid doing this behavior will show you what it is
  134. that they may be going through through what they express,
  135. whether it's through their art,
  136. whether student telling the story or whether it is through them
  137. playing with toys.
  138. Um, in conclusion,
  139. I just want to say thank you for
  140. listening to my presentation on childhood anxiety disorders.
  141. I hope it was very informational. Um, we can help
  142. with childhood disorder anxiety.
  143. We can help with bullying and we can help with separation anxiety.
  144. Hopefully,
  145. the treatments that's provided will be more than enough for the Children to be able
  146. to become outspoken and determined to have a change for the parent and the child.
  147. And here are my references.
