  1. Hello everyone.
  2. My name is bobby Griner and I am an OT
  3. faculty member and chair of the curriculum committee as well
  4. as part of the a coat accreditation self study project
  5. group. The purpose of this short presentation is to help
  6. prepare you for the upcoming echoed accreditation as it relates
  7. to the mission statements of the school of pharmacy and
  8. health professions and the occupational therapy department as well as
  9. the curriculum design for the creating no tv program.
  10. There is a worksheet that coincides with this video to
  11. allow you to make notes as you listen.
  12. The end goal is that you feel confident in your
  13. ability to articulate the curriculum design and its relation to
  14. the department and school mission statements.
  15. Yeah. To begin, we'll take a look at the newly
  16. revised curriculum model in order to conceptualize the OT curriculum
  17. at Creighton.
  18. A model comprised of three themes and two threads is
  19. used. Themes are not addressed in courses sequentially but rather
  20. they are nested so that content of each theme unfold
  21. over the eight semesters or three years of the program.
  22. Theme one is occupation and is the center of the
  23. curriculum and its generative theory.
  24. This theme focuses on the understanding of how human beings,
  25. both personally and in the community experience occupation as a
  26. unique self directed and adaptive individuals.
  27. Occupation is what we do.
  28. It is the unique modality used within our profession and
  29. is central to create an O.
  30. T. D.
  31. Education. During the on site accreditation visit, you may be
  32. asked to articulate how the theme of occupation is carried
  33. out throughout the curriculum.
  34. Please take a moment to pause the video if needed
  35. and note how you have seen the theme of occupation
  36. incorporated into classes you teach or in your role within
  37. the department.
  38. Being too is professional practice and focuses on the development
  39. of and reflection on knowledge and skills for occupational therapy
  40. practice students learn, explain and develop practice competencies through the
  41. application of occupation.
  42. The unique modality of occupational therapy.
  43. Professional practice is how we do it.
  44. These are the skills needed for our graduates to be
  45. competent occupational therapists.
  46. Please take a moment to reflect and make note of
  47. how professional practice is integrated within the classes that you
  48. teach or how you note this theme in relation to
  49. your role in the O.
  50. T. V.
  51. Program. Some examples include skills related to evaluation, intervention planning
  52. and designing occupation based interventions.
  53. You can note practical terms, skills checkouts or service learning
  54. experiences that assess students competency in the skills needed to
  55. be an occupational therapist.
  56. Theme three is professional identity and it focuses on the
  57. students emerging identity as a competent.
  58. Professional aspects of the development of this theme include the
  59. knowledge, attitudes and skills pertinent to professionalism.
  60. Professional identity is who we are.
  61. Please take a moment to note how the professional practice
  62. theme is integrated into the courses you teach or in
  63. your role in the O.
  64. T. V.
  65. Program, for example, the requirement for students to schedule, plan
  66. and leave consultation meetings with a community partner allows them
  67. to practice and receive feedback on skills related to professional
  68. communication etiquette.
  69. Use of behavior citations are used to acknowledge both positive
  70. and professional behaviors as well as provide an avenue to
  71. help students be aware of and work on those undesired
  72. professional behaviors.
  73. The threads of the curriculum model can be thought of
  74. as calling cards of earning an O.
  75. T. D.
  76. Degree from Creighton.
  77. The two threads are leadership, indignation values, threat of leadership
  78. derived from the theme.
  79. Professional identity reinforces the development of doctoral lee prepared therapists
  80. committed to serving societal needs.
  81. This thread serves as a way to integrate the three
  82. themes of the curriculum model.
  83. This may take the form of opportunities to lead portions
  84. of a project within a group assignment, being a class
  85. or club officer or leading by example of positive professional
  86. interactions with peers and faculty.
  87. A thread of egg nation values, fosters therapists who embody
  88. and enact justice values such as care for the whole
  89. person, men and women for and with others, et cetera.
  90. These values promote service to the underserved appreciation for diversity,
  91. development of community and promotion of justice.
  92. Please take a moment to note how you've seen leadership
  93. and the ignition value threads integrated into the courses you
  94. teach or in the roll you have in the department
  95. as a reminder, connections to the themes and threads are
  96. provided within each course syllabus.
  97. These three themes and two threads are integrated into each
  98. course and directly relate to the overall mission of the
  99. I. T.
  100. Department and the school of health, pharmacy and health professions
  101. and creating university.
  102. The worksheet provided also has the missions of the school
  103. and department printed on them.
  104. Please take a moment to read the mission statement of
  105. the OT department and the school of Pharmacy and health
  106. professions underline or circle or highlight keywords that stand out
  107. to you as you read each mission statement that you
  108. feel are key to earning a creating education.
  109. Make note of where you have seen these keywords reflected
  110. in the courses you teach or in your role in
  111. the department.
  112. For example the OT department mission states that the mission
  113. is to educate reflected practitioners.
  114. Reflection is a common course activity that we use to
  115. help students learn from their successes and their mistakes.
  116. Another portion of the I.
  117. T. Department mission is offer occupational therapy expertise to local
  118. and global communities.
  119. This can take the form of service learning in the
  120. community surrounding each respective campus or programs such as I
  121. lack or international capstone experiences.
  122. The mission of the school in pharmacy and health professions
  123. includes a phrase ethical conduct, inter professional collaboration and service
  124. to others.
  125. This part of the mission can be noted in inter
  126. professional education efforts within the school and university such as
  127. the required courses for special faculty, teaching assistants and lab
  128. assistants. CED 3 99 or c.
  129. e. d 400.
  130. It could also include the I.
  131. P. Passport requirements of every student in the school of
  132. pharmacy and health professions and in the I.
  133. T. Department.
  134. It could also be reflected in lectures on ethics or
  135. case studies that challenge ethics in clinical decision making.
  136. These are just a few examples of how you might
  137. link your experiences with classes you teach or your role
  138. in the department back to the school and OT department
  139. missions that concludes this short video and I hope this
  140. short exercise has provided you with the opportunity to review
  141. the school and department mission statements and the occupational therapy
  142. curriculum model and that you are more prepared and confident
  143. in your ability to articulate links between the mission statements
  144. and the curriculum design to the courses you teach or
  145. as you note them in your role in the O.
  146. T. Program.
  147. Now remembering key points of the curriculum model, occupation is
  148. what we do, professional practice is how we do it
  149. and professional identity is who we are and the calling
  150. cards of our Creighton education is threads of leadership indignation
  151. values and all themes and threads are integrated into each
  152. course in every semester.
  153. Thank you so much for watching this short video and
  154. thank you for being part of our creating family.
