00:01 - 00:04
Hello Welcome to our conversation today about defining the culture of
00:04 - 00:08
coin base and specifically how it's evolved amidst covid 19.
00:09 - 00:10
So today we'll discuss
00:10 - 00:13
paradigms, the symbols control systems,
00:14 - 00:15
organizational structures,
00:16 - 00:18
power structures, rituals and routines,
00:19 - 00:20
stories and myths
00:20 - 00:22
and lastly to tuck model.
00:22 - 00:24
So let's get started with the paradox.
00:25 - 00:30
So at its core corn base is about increasing economic freedom in the world.
00:30 - 00:33
And this goal has really been magnified and it's the pandemic where we've
00:33 - 00:37
seen massive economic disparity and the effects it's had on people's lives,
00:38 - 00:41
getting a better understanding the significance of the school.
00:41 - 00:43
So crypto currency at its core
00:44 - 00:45
enables
00:45 - 00:46
economic freedom.
00:47 - 00:52
And so looking at a few um really indispensable writes
00:52 - 00:54
that all humans should have such as property rights,
00:54 - 00:55
free trade.
00:55 - 00:58
Um the right to start a business and um
00:58 - 01:01
currency stability as well as freedom from corruption.
01:02 - 01:04
All of these things are made possible with
01:04 - 01:07
Cryptocurrency whether it's using a user controlled wallet.
01:07 - 01:12
Um The fact that Cryptocurrency isn't restricted to a certain country
01:13 - 01:17
stable coins as well as the high level of
01:17 - 01:20
security that comes with Cryptocurrency a lot of these different
01:20 - 01:24
aspects of human rights are being able to be
01:24 - 01:27
enforced and promoted in ways that they've never been historically
01:29 - 01:33
getting a better understanding of this vision how coin based
01:34 - 01:39
is looking at advancing this. So first corn based views crypto as an investment
01:40 - 01:42
and we're seeing this become more and more popular
01:42 - 01:46
today with people investing in different currencies and N.
01:46 - 01:47
F. T. S.
01:48 - 01:49
On their platform.
01:50 - 01:54
Additionally Coinbase hopes that much like traditional finance,
01:54 - 01:57
they can use Cryptocurrency to promote a
01:57 - 02:00
more equitable financial institution for things like
02:01 - 02:05
borrowing, earning spending and being able to raise capital for a business
02:06 - 02:09
from there. They really want to further expand their business model
02:10 - 02:12
to allow their platform to
02:12 - 02:16
provide services that are unique to crypto and Blockchain technology
02:16 - 02:20
to a wide variety of applications beyond um finance.
02:20 - 02:21
So being able to
02:22 - 02:25
sign in and vote on different
02:25 - 02:31
processes because it's immutable um certain massive votes could not be corrupted
02:31 - 02:34
or being able to share content and innovate in new ways.
02:34 - 02:37
These are all goals that coin bases with the future
02:37 - 02:41
of Cryptocurrency where it can position itself in the marketplace.
02:43 - 02:46
So now we have a better understanding of the actual
02:46 - 02:49
mission will dive into other aspects of the culture.
02:49 - 02:51
So now we'll look at these symbols.
02:52 - 02:54
So getting a better understanding of symbols with
02:54 - 02:57
coin based symbols are something that's vastly important.
02:58 - 03:04
They serve as the first interface between the human user as well as their product.
03:04 - 03:08
And so they've had a lot of success in Peking
03:08 - 03:10
the interests of people with their logos especially in areas
03:10 - 03:14
like um Times Square where there's such a densely populated
03:14 - 03:17
area of people um looking at all the different billboards
03:17 - 03:23
and so they really focus on two key characteristics with their symbols especially
03:23 - 03:26
with their loves and that's for them to be digestible and informative.
03:27 - 03:32
So as we can see what their um these three main product lines that coin base has
03:32 - 03:36
but they offered to the public corn based corn based protocol in baseball,
03:36 - 03:39
All of their logos are very identifiable
03:39 - 03:40
and
03:41 - 03:42
extremely simple.
03:42 - 03:47
And so the key here is for these logos to be synonymous with Cryptocurrency and being
03:47 - 03:51
able to exchange and use non fungible tokens
03:51 - 03:53
and different activities in the crypto space.
03:53 - 03:53
And
03:54 - 03:57
um by making coin based synonymous with these actions,
03:57 - 04:01
they can become the go to platform for cryptocurrencies,
04:04 - 04:07
looking now at the work environment.
04:07 - 04:09
The second aspect of symbols,
04:09 - 04:13
so coin base really focuses on being flexible and collaborative
04:13 - 04:14
and so
04:14 - 04:17
this is something they position themselves to do in
04:17 - 04:21
the pandemic even more through a remote first option.
04:21 - 04:24
And so they really focus on providing a culture through their work
04:24 - 04:29
environment that's both flexible and collaborative by allowing for a remote first
04:29 - 04:30
um option.
04:30 - 04:34
But then um reconvening on a quarterly basis in the office in
04:34 - 04:38
a very relaxed way so people can feel connected with their team
04:38 - 04:40
and be able to drive goals.
04:43 - 04:48
So after looking at symbols will take a deeper dive into the actual control systems.
04:50 - 04:55
So I coined based there's four key control systems, there's the financial system,
04:55 - 04:59
the user system, the technology system and the progress tracking system
05:00 - 05:05
and all of these work um together to really drive coin based
05:05 - 05:09
forward to push towards their goal economic freedom as well as profitability.
05:11 - 05:13
So first looking at the financial system.
05:13 - 05:16
There's three key aspects that coin based
05:16 - 05:19
leverages to generate revenues for itself.
05:19 - 05:21
The first is transaction fees,
05:21 - 05:26
so being able to generate fees on every transaction that occurs in the exchange.
05:26 - 05:31
The second is service fees. So this really correlates to their consulting services
05:31 - 05:36
as well as their brokerage services for larger institutional investors.
05:36 - 05:38
And then separate from that,
05:38 - 05:44
they actually have subscription fees which are subscriptions that are available
05:44 - 05:48
to both the retail and individual investor for increased data access.
05:48 - 05:52
Because Coinbase owns a wealth of crypto knowledge and data.
05:53 - 05:54
Looking on the expense side,
05:55 - 05:56
We see that there's three
05:56 - 06:01
he um, expense areas, that's the technology and development expenses.
06:01 - 06:04
The transaction expense in order to be able to support
06:04 - 06:07
all the transactions that occur on a macro scale,
06:07 - 06:09
um, on the crypto
06:09 - 06:11
exchange platform of corn based
06:11 - 06:14
as well as sales and marketing to expand the brand's awareness
06:17 - 06:18
beyond the financial system.
06:18 - 06:22
Another huge system that Coinbase looks at as their user system
06:23 - 06:27
and so coined is really caters its products to their users and there's
06:27 - 06:30
three main user bases that Coinbase looks
06:30 - 06:31
at when they're developing their products.
06:31 - 06:33
The first is the retail investors,
06:34 - 06:36
then there's the institutional investors
06:36 - 06:38
and finally the developers
06:41 - 06:45
and so, um, getting a better understanding of these um,
06:46 - 06:50
users is really crucial because first, with retail investors, these are people,
06:50 - 06:55
um, you and me, the more individual investors who may not have as much um,
06:55 - 06:59
tools at their disposal or may have less knowledge about the space.
06:59 - 07:03
The institutional investor would be more like a hedge funder
07:03 - 07:08
that require fast trades of large volume as well as developers.
07:08 - 07:11
These are the people that actually build out
07:11 - 07:14
the cryptocurrencies and the Blockchain technology behind it.
07:16 - 07:20
So having an understanding of these areas are crucial.
07:20 - 07:23
Other key areas are the actual text systems.
07:23 - 07:26
So having an understanding of the technology behind um coin based.
07:26 - 07:29
So there's two main avenues that
07:29 - 07:31
Coinbase uses to push its products
07:32 - 07:36
and those are the application, the IOS application,
07:36 - 07:39
android application for more mobile access that's extremely
07:39 - 07:43
seamless as well as the desktop version.
07:43 - 07:45
And both of these are crucial to looking at
07:46 - 07:50
the marketplace as well as for analyzing the wallet.
07:52 - 07:55
The 4th and um
07:55 - 07:57
other crucial aspect of the
07:58 - 07:59
different systems that coin base
08:00 - 08:02
is the actual progress tracking system.
08:03 - 08:08
There's four key areas of um metrics that corn based looks
08:08 - 08:11
at to evaluate a success with relation to its users.
08:11 - 08:14
So the first is retail user engagement.
08:15 - 08:19
Our users engaged with the app and enjoy using coin base.
08:19 - 08:24
So how many verified users have registered on how many
08:24 - 08:27
app downloads these are calm metrics for this space.
08:27 - 08:30
Then looking at the retail user retention.
08:30 - 08:33
So once they've been on the app, do they like it enough to stay?
08:33 - 08:36
And so looking at the monthly transactions,
08:36 - 08:40
users have their trading volume and how many subscribers are
08:40 - 08:43
there two different services within the coin based app?
08:44 - 08:45
The second um
08:46 - 08:49
dimension that corn based looks at is institutional engagement.
08:49 - 08:54
So our big firms really valuing the app and using all the services.
08:54 - 08:58
Are they registered to the analytics features or the prime
08:58 - 09:02
brokerage accounts that are available with corn based for businesses
09:03 - 09:06
And being able to gauge engagement retention for these.
09:06 - 09:08
The 4th aspect is developer engagement.
09:10 - 09:12
Our developers who are building out the technology
09:12 - 09:15
behind Blockchain and crypto engage in the application.
09:16 - 09:19
Do they? Are they willing to put their assets on the platform?
09:19 - 09:22
And how many actual cryptocurrencies in total
09:22 - 09:24
are available on the corn based platform?
09:24 - 09:28
These are all metrics corn based uses to track its success with its products.
09:31 - 09:34
So now we have a better idea of the
09:34 - 09:39
actual systems will transition to the organizational structure with juan
