  1. Hi everyone, my name is victoria show over and I
  2. am your child's fourth grade teacher at Queen's American School
  3. and welcome to our four s open house in this
  4. open house, we're going to be talking a little bit
  5. about who I am, the curriculum.
  6. The students will be learning the online connection, academic and
  7. social expectations and finally how to request a meeting with
  8. me. So a little about me, I am from Kentucky,
  9. I have been living in Spain for eight years and
  10. this is now my sixth year teaching at Aquinas.
  11. Mhm. So to begin with our curriculum, our language arts
  12. curriculum focuses on three areas Reading, writing and speaking in
  13. reading. There are several novels that we read throughout the
  14. year along with our journeys textbook which focuses more on
  15. grammar. The students will be writing at all times during
  16. the year and in a variety of different styles.
  17. Speaking is very important.
  18. We want the Children to develop a strong fluency in
  19. their second perhaps third language, which is english.
  20. So only english is spoken during our classes for Math.
  21. We use the engaged new york curriculum.
  22. I have included the link in this slide in this
  23. presentation and all of the curriculum is available through this
  24. link. If you would like to learn more or to
  25. see the materials that we use in class, we learn
  26. our math through good partner Math talk.
  27. When the students feel more comfortable expressing verbally their thought
  28. process with phrases like my strategy for solving the problem
  29. was we have level activities as well depending on the
  30. student's progress, they can be working ahead or what we
  31. call Not yet where they may be still mastering a
  32. few different skills in science.
  33. Uh Here's more of what we study again.
  34. The link to the curriculum is there.
  35. If you would like to learn more about it and
  36. we learned through experiments.
  37. Different, interesting video clips about topics that we're learning.
  38. For example, we've watched different news reports on the volcanoes
  39. in Alabama and at the end of the year we
  40. do a science fair where the students will be working
  41. in partners or groups to go through the steps of
  42. the scientific method and share what they've learned in social
  43. studies. Here again is our curriculum.
  44. If you would like to click on the link and
  45. explore. We use a lot of independent research in social
  46. studies. The students will have different projects throughout the year
  47. where they investigate a topic that is of interest to
  48. them and then they will present that information to our
  49. class in religion.
  50. This is the textbook we use and different topics that
  51. we learn about.
  52. And we learned through reading, praying, going to mass and
  53. having class with Father Mario occasionally.
  54. Finally an art.
  55. We practice realistic drawing and we also learn about art
  56. history. We practice a bunch to get better and we
  57. also use art to reinforce other subjects.
  58. Uh huh.
  59. So let's talk a little bit now about the online
  60. connection, students can use google classrooms to access the forest
  61. bulletin board which is where we post announcements that are
  62. coming up such as our field trip that we are
  63. going on tomorrow to the Museum of Heo Manero.
  64. Uh in the google classrooms there will also be announcements
  65. about what exams are.
  66. Uh this is where the students access their weekly spelling
  67. sentences for homework and I also provide study materials and
  68. different links to things that we're learning about.
  69. So students should be involved in google classroom almost on
  70. a daily basis to be checking in to review things
  71. we've learned or to make sure that their homework is
  72. completed. The students also have momentum.
  73. This is also part of the individual homework that students
  74. will be doing at home and Mentum covers language arts,
  75. reading and math.
  76. What I like about it, momentum is that it's very
  77. individualized for the learner.
  78. So each student can work at their own pace and
  79. progress as far as they can through different topics.
  80. And then finally in ren web ren web is where
  81. the grades of all the assignments will be posted.
  82. It exams, different, greater projects.
  83. It explains how each thing in each assignment is graded.
  84. So this is a tool mainly for parents to keep
  85. an eye on their Children's grades, academic and social expectations.
  86. We learn teamwork, executive functioning skills and kindness and the
  87. way that we do these are by different team building
  88. activities throughout the year.
  89. Social, emotional learning workshops as seen in this picture provided
  90. by our student support services and the bees, which we
  91. call our.
  92. Be respectful, be responsible, be safe, be kind and be
  93. the best that I can be today.
  94. Mhm. So finally, if there is anything else that I
  95. haven't covered briefly in this virtual open house, please feel
  96. free to send me a email and in the email,
  97. please include the topic that you would like to discuss
  98. and a suggested time that we can meet to do
  99. a virtual call.
  100. I know it was brief, but I hope that you
  101. enjoyed our four s virtual open house.
  102. I hope this gives you a better idea of what
  103. we're going to be doing in fourth grade.
  104. I look forward to meeting you all as we progress
  105. the year and I can already tell you that I
  106. am enjoying this class tremendously and I'm very excited for
  107. all that we're gonna be learning and doing together.
