  1. Hi everybody.
  2. Um my name is Cassidy reichs and my
  3. area of expertise this week is on leadership portfolios
  4. and using the leader in me to create personally responsible citizens,
  5. not only in the classroom
  6. but
  7. beyond the walls of our school.
  8. So let's get started and learn more about these portfolios.
  9. So the first thing I want to talk about is why leadership portfolios are important.
  10. Um students are able to collect and store artifacts throughout the school year,
  11. starting on day one
  12. so they're able to see their own growth
  13. and that encourages them and
  14. helps them to hold themselves accountable throughout the school year.
  15. There also has to reflect a lot on their own learning
  16. and then also apply that
  17. to seeking and creating change in our classroom or school.
  18. Um I chose the quote on this slide.
  19. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
  20. committed citizens can change the world.
  21. So
  22. this small group in my classroom
  23. is committed to their own learning because of these leadership portfolios
  24. and that can transpire into committed citizens
  25. outside of the walls of our classrooms.
  26. So appear you'll see a
  27. an example of
  28. the cover of our leadership binder this year's.
  29. Um schoolwide leadership theme is leading as a team. So it's a sports theme.
  30. So each year I create a leadership by undercover for my class
  31. to put on the front of their portfolios to
  32. kind of reflect the building theme for the year
  33. and let's keep going.
  34. What exactly are leadership portfolios
  35. as part of a leader in the lighthouse school leadership partner.
  36. An important part of Our Leadership Journey from Day one.
  37. Um
  38. They are a student created
  39. and managed
  40. right when we started leadership portfolios,
  41. we had a management issue throughout the school
  42. just keeping up with them and keeping track of them and having students
  43. make sure they're adding things to them after the first one or two years
  44. as a staff, we decided
  45. this should be on the students to
  46. add and store artifacts. So
  47. we started pushing for that personal accountability
  48. and responsibility for each student to take that upon themselves.
  49. Um Leadership portfolios are used to document and track student goals,
  50. growth areas and celebration throughout the school year.
  51. This can be anything they choose to
  52. add to their portfolios. It can be artwork, it can be
  53. any like positive test scores, positive sharing about students
  54. and
  55. whether they meet their goals or not or
  56. areas they would like to grow in or get better at.
  57. And
  58. this helps hold students accountable and helps
  59. them reflect upon learning throughout the year
  60. and then they're also able to keep the leadership portfolios for the next year.
  61. We can reflect upon their growth from year to year as well
  62. as we move on to the next slide in our presentation.
  63. Um I will just talk a little bit about my experience with leadership portfolios.
  64. Um I started at my current school five years ago and as I started,
  65. they were also starting their leader and me journey.
  66. So they were
  67. brand new and learning at the same time I was, which was really beneficial for me
  68. because I've seen it build from basically the ground up.
