  1. So we're going to jump right and talk about obesity in the US and battle diets.
  2. Adult obesity is defined as A. B. M. I. Of 31 or higher.
  3. And then child obesity is at or above the sex and age specific 95th percentile.
  4. Here's a map of the adult obesity self reported by the US which
  5. is clearly um pretty high with states like Texas being over 40.
  6. And then for child obesity we can see that
  7. those rates have gone up consistently over the years.
  8. Um And so what causes obesity is consumption of food in a negative way.
  9. But to break down the food, there's carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
  10. Um Carbohydrates are four calories. A gram.
  11. There are main energy source for quick energy and but they're also non essential.
  12. So we don't need them in theory.
  13. Um
  14. Then we have fats which are essential because they
  15. have fatty acids which are at nine calories program.
  16. And there are long lasting energy. They can be stored for later use
  17. and then we have proteins which are four calories program.
  18. They are essential because they are the building blocks of our body
  19. have amino acids and help build muscle and help our body's recover.
  20. Um So in diets there's good and bad, we need proteins and we need fats.
  21. So those are both good but unsaturated fats
  22. are much better choice and saturated fats.
  23. And then complex carbohydrates like whole grains are important,
  24. there's bad parts which are added sugar.
  25. We don't need that extra carbohydrates which are just extra calories.
  26. Um
  27. saturated fats
  28. are solid at room temperature.
  29. Red meat contains these palm kernel oil, coconut oil,
  30. things like that we don't need.
  31. And then processed food is just a combination of those two factors,
  32. as long as other unnatural things in our food in our diet.
  33. Um Then comparisons of diets um people that
  34. lost weight were compared from low fat diet to
  35. a low carb diet and the people on low carb diet lost more weight over time.
  36. Um
  37. Just because fat has higher in calories, so that's
  38. higher too.
  39. Um And carbohydrates such as added sugars are
  40. easily consumed if you're not worried about consuming them. Um
  41. And then,
  42. but the bottom line
  43. Is that people on diets lose 5-10% of their body weight.
  44. But then 1/3-2/3 regain or gain more later on from that lost weight,
  45. which isn't good.
  46. Um And then the bottom line um is the
  47. goals is proteins and unsaturated fats are essential.
  48. And we should focus on consuming those in the whole food.
  49. Um state that they're in
  50. um portion size awareness is important because
  51. in America we saw
  52. the ted talk videos where
  53. they people in american consume large amounts of
  54. food in large amounts of processed food.
  55. So we should take the perspective of everything in moderation and
  56. focus on consuming foods that literally come from the earth and not
  57. created in a factory and that will help us reduce um things
  58. like cardiovascular disease and diabetes and
  59. diseases that are completely preventable.
  60. Um when we focus on our diet and make sure we're consuming good things,
  61. then here's the sources.
