  1. Hello.
  2. My name is Natalie Maciel and I did my
  3. research essay on Susan Glass Beau's jury of her peers
  4. in this story.
  5. Mini foster is neglected and isolated by her
  6. husband to under a lifetime of solitude.
  7. This relates to me because growing up I had a very
  8. strict hispanic father and I wasn't allowed to socialize as a child
  9. during the story, the kitchen plays a very big part in
  10. the story plot line.
  11. The kitchen
  12. was very
  13. significant to my growing up because
  14. we were not allowed to have a very messy or any mess in any part of our house.
  15. It was shameful.
  16. During the plot line,
  17. the women discover a bird which resembled a memory I had growing up when I
  18. uncovered a gift that had been taken away from me years prior from my aunt
  19. in Susan Glass Bells story,
  20. she illustrates the way that women have been repressed by
  21. men and shows the differences between men and women.
  22. This story relates to my life because growing up I
  23. too felt victimized by the imposed isolation onto me.
  24. Described to have been a very cheerful young bubbly spirit,
  25. very involved in the community.
  26. Often seen singing in the choir happy until she
  27. meets her husband and later she is isolated,
  28. no longer has her bubbly spirit and she no longer sings
  29. often characteristics not doing
  30. any type of
  31. activity she enjoyed from the isolation self esteem gets brought down and
  32. people are no longer happy, especially seen in her case with
  33. the representative circumstances under which she lives as she is
  34. currently undergoing trial for the murder of her husband.
  35. In an exchange between mrs hale and MS.
  36. Peters, she describes the change in mindset of many foster,
  37. explaining how her husband
  38. essentially
  39. killed her love of
  40. singing
  41. as he is presumably to have killed Herbert.
  42. I related to many foster a lot because growing up
  43. with a very strict hispanic father,
  44. I wasn't allowed to socialize so I had to build very strong friendships at school
  45. and then my parents ended up moving my sisters and I to a completely different city
  46. which led to me being very depressed after being moved
  47. or
  48. moved and removed from my friends and connections.
  49. It was very hard to connect with people at this
  50. new school towards the end of my high school year,
  51. I ended up losing a majority of my friends and
  52. I lost my motivation to do good in school,
  53. not having any kind of connections and
  54. reinforcement and support outside of school.
  55. This affected me very heavily.
  56. So I understood how the isolation would have impacted many
  57. foster in her circumstances that she was put under.
  58. I was able to relate heavily to her because I too faced similar repression
  59. and the lasting impacts that isolation had on me were very similar to hers.
  60. In conclusion,
  61. Susan Glassboro describes a setting and a character that I was very familiar with.
  62. She helps to pick the many differences between men and women
  63. that happened at the time and still unfortunately happened today.
  64. The similarities in isolation and criticism from male parties in the
  65. household ensure once one feels alienated in their own home,
  66. which is very
  67. seeing
  68. and objective in Mini Foster's case,
  69. which ultimately led to her being on trial for her
  70. husband's murder.
  71. Although the story is called the jury of her peers,
  72. the women in the story decide that many Foster is not indeed with a jury of her peers.
  73. Through the differences the men and the women have with clear evidence of neglect,
  74. they ultimately decide that they have to decide Mini state on their own.
  75. Thank you for listening. Here's my works cited page.
