00:00 - 00:04
Hi. My name is Pamela Zenica, and I go by Pam.
00:04 - 00:07
And this is my first year seminar Reflection presentation.
00:08 - 00:10
The first slide is navigating the system
00:11 - 00:13
and campus resources.
00:13 - 00:16
Going into a new school system can always be very difficult,
00:16 - 00:18
as it was for me and many other students.
00:19 - 00:23
Week two and 3, we discussed student organizations and
00:23 - 00:26
library services, which for me came in very handy.
00:27 - 00:29
This helped me navigate my way through Harper,
00:29 - 00:32
and it really allowed me to get familiar with all the
00:32 - 00:35
material and resources provided for all the students at Harper.
00:37 - 00:41
The first couple of weeks of this course was really important because it gave
00:41 - 00:45
me a good idea of where to find everything located on the campus.
00:46 - 00:49
At first I thought that every incoming incoming freshmen or
00:49 - 00:54
transferring student that attended Harper knew where everything was located.
00:54 - 00:57
But little by little, I realized that I wasn't alone,
00:57 - 01:01
and I wasn't the only one who wasn't aware of all the resources provided for us.
01:02 - 01:03
Luckily, this class guided me through that.
01:06 - 01:09
The second slide is strategies for engagement and success.
01:09 - 01:14
I have always been good at engaging in conversation and group projects, but
01:14 - 01:16
because school has been online for the past
01:17 - 01:17
two years,
01:18 - 01:21
it's become very hard to manage those communication skills.
01:22 - 01:24
During week six, we had many topics
01:25 - 01:26
and many assignments
01:26 - 01:29
one of my favorite assignments being
01:29 - 01:33
emotional intelligence assignment as well as the study plan chart
01:34 - 01:35
During week six.
01:35 - 01:37
It helps me stay organized and
01:38 - 01:40
helped keep my studies in organization
01:41 - 01:43
and all of course assignments that I had.
01:45 - 01:48
It also helped me improve my strengths and weaknesses as
01:48 - 01:52
well as setting myself realistic goals and achievable goals.
01:54 - 01:56
The 3rd slide is developing a plan and career.
01:57 - 01:58
During week eight,
01:58 - 02:03
we were giving a personal development plan to create for ourselves and our futures.
02:04 - 02:08
I think this was one of the most crucial and important assignments in this course.
02:09 - 02:11
Although this was helpful for me,
02:11 - 02:14
I did already knew what major I wanted to study.
02:15 - 02:19
If anything, knowing what I wanted to study as a career helped me more
02:19 - 02:21
during the whole developing plan,
02:24 - 02:27
becoming a child life specialist has always been one of my biggest goals.
02:28 - 02:30
Being able to teach and shape Children's lives has
02:30 - 02:33
always been so important and so personal to me
02:33 - 02:37
I was able to do some research about being a child life specialist,
02:37 - 02:40
the salary internships,
02:40 - 02:44
the requirements and decrees that one must have to go into the profession.
02:45 - 02:48
It not only gave me a better idea of what requirements are needed,
02:48 - 02:53
but also made me realize that this was the right path for me.
02:55 - 02:59
I know that for other students, this class was very helpful,
02:59 - 03:02
especially if they didn't know what they wanted
03:02 - 03:04
to study or what career they were choosing.
03:05 - 03:09
The 4th slide is critical thinking and problem solving.
03:09 - 03:13
Although I have been a critical thinker for a very long time now,
03:13 - 03:16
I haven't been that much of a problem solver.
03:16 - 03:20
Critical thinking involves more than just your brain.
03:20 - 03:23
It involves analyzing the text and problem in front of you.
03:23 - 03:26
This course allowed me to reflect on my abilities and set
03:26 - 03:29
aside time to actually work on my problem solving skills,
03:31 - 03:32
nation and sources.
03:33 - 03:37
Throughout all my first semester at Harper,
03:37 - 03:41
so much information and so many resources have been given and provided for me.
03:41 - 03:44
This class really gave me an idea of where to get
03:44 - 03:47
the resources and how to use it properly and correctly.
03:50 - 03:53
My last and final slide is culture and diversity
03:54 - 03:58
which is one of my favorite things about this class was the diversity
03:59 - 04:00
and how much it was talked about.
04:02 - 04:05
Being a person of color. Diversity is very important to me.
04:05 - 04:09
It allows me to be true to myself and my surroundings as well as
04:10 - 04:11
true to my others.
04:13 - 04:14
During both week
04:14 - 04:17
four and 5, we had a couple of goals
04:18 - 04:21
set in mind. We had a couple of assignments
04:21 - 04:25
that had a lot to do with discrimination against black individuals.
04:27 - 04:29
Not many of these courses talked about diversity, so
04:30 - 04:33
I truly enjoyed this topic and the light it
04:33 - 04:36
brought to the idea of culture and uniformity.
04:39 - 04:44
This class also allowed me to be aware of my surroundings and other people in it,
04:44 - 04:49
as well as their cultures and all the social norms that they inquire.
04:50 - 04:51
And that was the end.
04:51 - 04:55
Thank you so much for listening and thank you so much for your time.
