  1. Hello, my name is Maya Amos.
  2. And today I'll be talking about my virtual tour with a casa soon
  3. and why Frida and Diego were so interested
  4. in collecting popular folk and pre Columbian art
  5. as you can see here.
  6. This is the dining room Frida,
  7. Kahlo and Diego Rivera and it has beautiful colors such as yellow
  8. and blue that perfectly contrast each other just like their marriage did.
  9. Um, on the walls
  10. we can see uh dove that's adorned on the walls with beating and then the same beating,
  11. we can see Frida's name and on the other side it has Diego's name.
  12. Um, this furthering showing how much in love they were at the time.
  13. We also see on the counter space as a
  14. whole bunch of different kinds of pots and pottery
  15. mainly to suggest that that was a popular folk art at the time
  16. um
  17. done by the local people or themselves even
  18. Now, as we know in 1925, Frida,
  19. Kahlo was in a terrible trolley accident which made her infertile
  20. and it really hurt her physically as well as mentally.
  21. So most of the time Frida had to spend in bed or
  22. inside the house and she wasn't able to move around that much.
  23. Now, even though she was in bed most of the time,
  24. this does not stop her from using her own body as a modern day art piece.
  25. She would spend hours. Some sources say
  26. that she would spend hours
  27. looking for the perfect outfit
  28. and adorning her body with different kinds of jewelry from the,
  29. the townspeople or from the places Diego has visited without her
  30. or even places where Diego has visited with her with her.
  31. She would spend a couple of hours searching for the perfect colors
  32. to put on her body and um perfect placement for her hair
  33. as you can see here. She seen her herself as her own art piece
  34. and she even created dolls and she adorned her entire house
  35. with different kinds of art pieces that spoke to her directly
  36. here. We have uh
  37. guitar from
  38. the local village
  39. and we can see that she hung it up on her wall just
  40. to make sure that she has a sense of identity in her mexicana history
  41. here we have a couple of ceramic pieces also done locally I assume.
  42. And um as you can see that these ones are more pre Columbian um from
  43. the different kinds of colors they used inside of the sculptures such as the that
  44. dark brownish color
  45. and the the
  46. the green colors that are more vibrant there
  47. Frida decided to use these different kinds of art pieces and create her
  48. own art like this as a sense of identity and her mexican heritage.
  49. And she,
  50. she usually adorned her entire walls and decor with all
  51. of this because she felt sympathy for the people of Mexico
  52. and she felt a sense of pride within it.
  53. As you can see here, there is her painting space,
  54. you can see all the different kinds of vibrant colors she uses,
  55. you can see how she would have to sit in her wheelchair right there just to paint.
  56. And this was something that she enjoyed doing because it was able
  57. to express not only herself of identity but also her sense of,
  58. um,
  59. her sons of
  60. heritage that she so long fully wants to keep connected.
  61. Mm hmm.
  62. I hope you enjoyed my sides. And I hope you enjoyed this video.
