  1. Hello, everyone.
  2. My name is Tim and we are Marcello, Marcello.
  3. Hawaiian means in the presence where people that believe in
  4. the presence of God and you believe in being present
  5. with one another and being president in the community.
  6. And it's such an honor for me today to get
  7. to share Day Five our devotional Siris on navigating uncertainty.
  8. I wanted to think one and Hanzo and Mellie and
  9. Mark so far for their devotion than their reflection.
  10. Question has been such a blessing for me and I've
  11. been so encouraged by each one of you.
  12. So thank you very much.
  13. I mean, today I wanted to start off by just
  14. going through and reviewing some of the different ways that
  15. we can express uncertainty that talked about on Monday.
  16. And the five different expressions are uncertainty or anger, avoidance,
  17. abdication, absent mindedness and anxiety.
  18. I was reflecting on that this week and to some
  19. degree I have experienced and relates all five of those,
  20. but the one that really kind of jumps out at
  21. me that I turned to the most would be avoidance
  22. and his unmentioned in her devotional of what is can
  23. manifest itself in several different ways, but in general it
  24. involves repressing your emotions or for years detaching yourself, which
  25. blocks confronting or processing the issue.
  26. And then sometimes you can turn to addictive behaviors, distracting
  27. yourself with binge eating, binge doing, watching your drinking.
  28. And I definitely relate all three of those in.
  29. And that's how I deal with uncertainty sometimes.
  30. And she also pulls the really wonderful question with regards
  31. to avoidance is their underlying anxiety, uncertainty, fear or shame?
  32. Ur armoring up against.
  33. And I was thinking about that, and certainly over the
  34. past, um, month or so with Kobe 19 there's been
  35. some underlying anxiety and true that I've had that If
  36. let's let me to turn to avoidance, but also about
  37. reflect over the last 10 years or the course of
  38. my adult life, I need to any point in my
  39. life where I've had, um, uncertainty or I've had, um,
  40. a problem or an issue or just some kind of
  41. turmoil in my life.
  42. I've always tended turn to these avoidant behaviors, and at
  43. each point in my life, when I have experienced something
  44. like now with Kobe 19 I've had some fear and
  45. anxiety the way the anxiety, I guess Manifest itself for
  46. me. Um, during the 19 was initially I was just
  47. fearful about my finances and being furloughed from work and
  48. would be ableto support us financially.
  49. I was also a little bit worried about some of
  50. the more elderly members of my family and their health.
  51. And then in general, I was just worried about the
  52. state and our country in the entire world and how
  53. we would deal with the situation so I could feel
  54. myself kind of when the quarantine started, really starting to
  55. head down this road of avoidance.
  56. And God gave me a verse that has helped encourage
  57. meet other points in my life.
  58. Um, where I've dealt with uncertainty and that verse is
  59. one of the most popular and preached on versus out
  60. there. But I really like it.
  61. It's Philippians 46 to 7.
  62. Do not be anxious for anything but in every situation
  63. by parent petition with Thanksgiving present, your requests to God
  64. and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will
  65. guard your hearts and your minds in Christ.
  66. Jesus and I really love this first, and I feel
  67. that it's very applicable.
  68. Teoh, the times we live in right now where there
  69. is a lot of uncertainty and fear.
  70. And I always kind of asked myself, You know, what
  71. exactly is the peace of God and how can I
  72. get more of the peace of God?
  73. And I really like a quote from Tim Calorie talks
  74. about the peace of God, he says The peace of
  75. God is not the absence of fear.
  76. It, in fact, is his presence.
  77. And that really resonated me with me because I realized
  78. that peace is ah, characteristic of God.
  79. And by seeking God's presence more intentionally on being in
  80. his presence and talking with them and sharing your burdens
  81. and concerns with him.
  82. He received God's peace through being in this presence.
  83. So that really struck me.
  84. And, um, over the past 4 to 6 weeks during
  85. the quarantine and everything called the 19 there's been three
  86. sort of practical ways.
  87. Spiritually disciplines, if you will, that I've been ableto wanted
  88. to wrap this.
  89. That really helped me to experience God's presence more and
  90. also his piece.
  91. I just wanted to share those brief with you.
  92. Um, the first practices been to actively seek God and
  93. spend time with him each morning, with the gym's being
  94. closed and everything, I started doing a little bit more
  95. walking. So each morning when I get up, I'll go
  96. on a walk around the neighborhood.
  97. I'll bring my earphones and I'll listen to certain and
  98. sometimes listen to worship music.
  99. And sometimes I'll just I'll just talk with God.
  100. But I found that those starting off my day with
  101. God has just given me a lot more peace.
  102. And by having more peace and kind of casting my,
  103. um, worries and concerns on him, it's free me to
  104. be less focused on myself and freed me toe, consider
  105. others and serve others and encourage others more than just
  106. being consumed them or with the concerns that I have.
  107. So it's been a really cool experience for me.
  108. The second has been experiencing Sabbath rest, and for the
  109. old deception core, I think you're gonna talk about Sabbath
  110. rest in the next few months.
  111. Here are the nude seven succour, but for our old
  112. establish 1/4 we talking about Sabbath rest in for me.
  113. I've realized that one way, Um, for me that I
  114. get Sabbath rest is through doing yard work I thought
  115. was really cool.
  116. Yesterday, Mark talked about the parable of sowing the seeds
  117. and farming.
  118. I just feel like Jesus talked to his disciples a
  119. lot, um, through parables and metaphors about plants and farming,
  120. and I just want to give a quick example.
  121. Something got taught me through doing yard work.
  122. We have a big bougainvillea bush that's really owns about
  123. 50 years old, and over time some other Bushes have
  124. kind of grown into it and started choking it out.
  125. So it wasn't as Elsie so tell you said I
  126. well, mostly the least.
  127. Actually, she wanted me to point that out to you
  128. guys. But we prove in the bush all the way
  129. down, and we read and were able to dig up
  130. and kill the other Bush that was choking it out.
  131. Initially, it looked like it might be dead, but over
  132. the last three weeks it's still he started to grow
  133. back, and now it's stronger than ever because it's not
  134. being choked out by these other bushes and reasoning or
  135. so just made me think about one of the parables
  136. that Jesus told them, and God has been ableto teach
  137. me a lot just through working in the art.
  138. And no, I don't want to come working any of
  139. your yard.
  140. Sorry. And finally, and the most important thing for me
  141. has been experiencing God's peace through community.
  142. As I look back over my adult life, I've tried
  143. Teoh, um, walk with God alone without having a Christian
  144. community. And that's just not the way that God designed
  145. for us to go through life.
  146. And there's another quote I'm gonna share from two Keller
  147. something, a lot of time, color quotes.
  148. But he talks about community, and he says only if
  149. you are part of a community of believers seeking to
  150. resemble serve and love.
  151. Jesus, will you ever get to know him and grow
  152. into his likeness?
  153. And I really love that quote, and I found that
  154. over the past year and 1/2 that I've been part
  155. of Mark Yellow really experienced God in his presence more
  156. fully, and I've just learned so much more about his
  157. nature through Oh my brothers and sisters.
  158. In our community, I have experience and interact with God.
  159. It's just been such a blessing to me being part
  160. of a community and that's being the big difference between
  161. um, this Cove in 19 situation and how I've dealt
  162. with uncertainty in the past is that before I would
  163. try to go at it alone, but I was still
  164. see God's presidents.
  165. But it's it's a whole another level when you're part
  166. of a community and you can share each other's burdens
  167. and do life together.
  168. Um, so what I've learned is that through community, we
  169. can experience God's peace more fully.
  170. So I wanted to think all of you for just
  171. being there for me and and walking with Titus and
  172. I. Your life has been such a blessing for me
  173. or during this time.
  174. So finally, I want to move along to just to
  175. reflection questions.
  176. So the first reflection question is what fear, anxiety or
  177. worry? Do you need to present to God today so
  178. you can just reflect on that today and then the
  179. second question is, in what way can you intentionally seek
  180. God's presence at his piece?
  181. That so those were just two questions that we can
  182. reflect on and think on today.
  183. I just want to thank you for taking the time
  184. to join us for this devotional.
  185. I hope that it was a blessing and encouragement for
  186. you. And I hope everyone has Ah, wonderful Memorial Day
  187. weekend Then that we can all experience God's peace more
  188. fully. Thank you.
