00:00 - 00:01
Hi,
00:01 - 00:03
this is Evan Vanessa and today I will be presenting
00:03 - 00:06
some of the findings from week five in particular.
00:06 - 00:09
We were assigned chapter five from our book
00:09 - 00:13
and the video created by tectonic data solutions
00:14 - 00:16
As a little background.
00:16 - 00:20
In Chapter four we went over the knowledge
00:20 - 00:23
transfer from the transfer from knowledge to wisdom.
00:23 - 00:26
And in it I had several
00:26 - 00:29
discrepancies that I believe were noted
00:29 - 00:33
that were perhaps not on track on the transfer of knowledge to
00:34 - 00:34
to wisdom,
00:35 - 00:40
Which I noted in my Chapter four summary the areas in yellow I believe are in
00:40 - 00:42
part and the areas in white I believe
00:42 - 00:46
are probably more information to knowledge transfer.
00:47 - 00:48
In chapter five,
00:48 - 00:55
um we looked into reducing um information overload,
00:55 - 00:56
linking
00:57 - 01:03
which uses linking to frameworks and narratives and also the use of metaphors
01:06 - 01:11
and um the chapter the main thrust was to declutter and he
01:11 - 01:17
does give some good examples of it as some of the the
01:18 - 01:23
chapters prior along with that the authors suggest that we use the mary Kindu
01:23 - 01:27
approach which is not so sure that it would be healthy in this particular.
01:28 - 01:31
The use of metaphors to create an impression was also provided
01:31 - 01:36
in previous chapters and it did not believe had additional value
01:37 - 01:39
Using size and mass as
01:39 - 01:43
in figure 55 was a good technique and it provides a good visual
01:43 - 01:48
and a memorable one personally. I think Elon musk's chart was effective
01:48 - 01:52
and sometimes I wonder why it was a flop. Maybe it was because of timing.
01:53 - 01:59
Uh the golden ratio also again was covered um in previous chapters and
01:59 - 02:04
I think maybe over utilized and the use of a twist or humor
02:04 - 02:11
is a good general idea, but perhaps more not feasible in all points of, of um
02:11 - 02:12
storytelling.
02:15 - 02:21
So again, I had some um, areas that I agreed and perhaps disagreed with this book,
02:21 - 02:24
especially since it was talking about storytelling.
02:26 - 02:33
I really, really enjoyed uh the video that was covered by Bridget Connolly,
02:33 - 02:35
I thought it was fantastic in it.
02:35 - 02:37
She covered
02:37 - 02:41
the child illusion and that color is determined by surroundings,
02:41 - 02:44
brain breakers and the idea that scintillating grid
02:44 - 02:47
and recommendation to make it that the same color
02:47 - 02:49
as the main idea of the graph,
02:49 - 02:54
the concept of relation of contrast and accessibility guidelines and
02:54 - 02:58
creating the strap effect was very well illustrated and something
02:58 - 03:01
that I think I need to seek out some additional
03:01 - 03:03
resources in order to understand it a little bit better.
03:04 - 03:08
Drop connections also was a concept brought about in this book
03:08 - 03:12
about complementary colors and how they canceled each other out.
03:12 - 03:14
And last was the
03:14 - 03:16
really cohesive collection of all by
03:17 - 03:20
adapting all of these into accessibility features
03:20 - 03:24
that I believe Miss Cogley did a fantastic job on her presentation.
03:26 - 03:27
So in summary,
03:27 - 03:34
I believe that I would give our database book a um almost a two star three star.
03:34 - 03:38
Um I was looking more into storytelling and and
03:38 - 03:40
I'm not really sure whether I got that.
03:40 - 03:42
I would like to hear other people's comments on that.
03:43 - 03:49
Um the video by Miss Connelly was fantastic. I give it a sort of a five
03:49 - 03:53
in order to save myself from some of the areas
03:53 - 03:56
that I didn't feel like God as much from database.
03:56 - 04:03
There's a book a mr kevin Hennigan called Turning Data into Wisdom,
04:03 - 04:04
which I highly recommend.
04:05 - 04:07
I would like to hear your comments relative to
04:08 - 04:10
um I guess a little bit of a disappointment in
04:10 - 04:17
the database book and storytelling and see what others may or
04:17 - 04:19
you may have
04:19 - 04:20
in terms of
04:21 - 04:22
recommendations to
04:23 - 04:24
bring my mind together a little bit
04:24 - 04:29
better about the idea of storytelling and whether
04:29 - 04:31
I was off tar
04:31 - 04:35
in in sort of the disappointment from that chapter.
04:36 - 04:37
Thank you so much.
04:37 - 04:41
I look forward to your ideas and recommendations and
04:41 - 04:43
I hope that everybody has a great week ahead.
04:43 - 04:44
Thank you.
