00:00 - 00:03
Hey, y'all, I'm Alyona Black and this is my wife.
00:06 - 00:09
So some background information about me is that I have
00:09 - 00:13
three older sisters and two of us are actually born
00:13 - 00:15
in October and two of us are born in June,
00:15 - 00:18
so we're kind of in pairs Me.
00:18 - 00:21
Having older sisters, though, is really significant because it's shaped
00:22 - 00:24
a lot of my personality because I am the youngest.
00:25 - 00:28
I'm constantly comparing myself to my amazing older sisters or
00:28 - 00:30
others and trying to prove myself.
00:31 - 00:33
So I tend to push myself pretty hard with a
00:33 - 00:35
lot of things which could be good, but it doesn't
00:36 - 00:36
always work out.
00:36 - 00:38
So one of my flaws is just pushing myself too
00:39 - 00:43
hard. I definitely have a strong work ethic, though, because
00:43 - 00:44
I have the older siblings.
00:45 - 00:47
I also grew up in a really small farming town,
00:48 - 00:51
a less than 1000 people like Total in the town,
00:52 - 00:53
and we were surrounded by corn.
00:55 - 00:58
Growing up in that small town, though, really helped to
00:58 - 01:01
cast a firm foundation for me in life, in regards
01:01 - 01:04
to appreciating the simple things but also going out and
01:04 - 01:06
making new experiences for myself whenever I can.
01:08 - 01:12
Speaking of experiences, my mother is a medical zebra, so
01:13 - 01:15
that means that she has this really unique combination of
01:15 - 01:16
a lot of illnesses.
01:17 - 01:19
I know this is supposed to be facts about me,
01:19 - 01:22
but this is something that has really impacted my life
01:22 - 01:24
all throughout childhood and still does now.
01:25 - 01:28
Unlike most of my older sisters, I was pretty young
01:28 - 01:29
when she started getting sick.
01:30 - 01:32
I was around first grade, so I became a lot
01:32 - 01:35
more dependent on myself emotionally and develop more emotional maturity
01:36 - 01:37
at a much younger age.
01:38 - 01:40
Her being sick also just makes me appreciate life so
01:41 - 01:44
much more and appreciate every moment that I have with
01:44 - 01:47
everyone. It also makes me very comfortable with being in
01:47 - 01:48
a hospital setting.
01:49 - 01:52
So it's definitely impacted me when it comes to choosing
01:52 - 01:55
a career because I want to be a pediatric nurse,
01:55 - 01:59
so I'll most likely be working in a hospital moving
02:00 - 02:00
on to my values.
02:01 - 02:05
One of my values is altruism, because I strongly believe
02:05 - 02:07
in helping others, even if you received nothing in return.
02:09 - 02:11
I also think everyone should be treated with kindness and
02:11 - 02:16
compassion, just like the saying, treat others the way you
02:16 - 02:19
want to be treated, says My family and friends are
02:19 - 02:20
also very important to me.
02:21 - 02:25
And I think self improvement is important because I think
02:25 - 02:28
we can always be working to improve ourselves, even if
02:28 - 02:32
it's just small things, because by bettering ourselves where helping
02:33 - 02:39
to teach ourselves how to treat others better, Okay, this
02:40 - 02:43
slide is just going over positive qualities versus negative qualities
02:43 - 02:45
with examples of leaders in them.
02:47 - 02:51
So some positive qualities are patients compassion, having a strong
02:51 - 02:53
work ethic and being self aware.
02:53 - 02:57
I think the first two patients and compassion are really
02:57 - 03:00
important qualities because they ensure that you're treating others the
03:00 - 03:01
way you want to be treated.
03:01 - 03:03
And they really helped to smooth out a tough situation
03:04 - 03:09
and increase the strength of bonds and relationships between you
03:09 - 03:12
and your peers as well as those that you are
03:12 - 03:16
leading. Having a strong work ethic is also really important
03:17 - 03:19
because others Comptel, if you don't want to put in
03:19 - 03:23
the work, and it sets a bad example when you
03:23 - 03:25
slack off because that makes others think that it's okay
03:26 - 03:26
to slack off.
03:27 - 03:30
Being self aware is also important because we need to
03:30 - 03:33
know our own limitations and be conscious that we're not
03:33 - 03:35
always right and be conscious of when we need to
03:35 - 03:36
ask for help.
03:37 - 03:39
A few people that I think are positive leaders are
03:40 - 03:42
Malala, Pope Francis and Martin Luther King Jr.
03:43 - 03:48
And they're all still super prevalent today for negative qualities
03:48 - 03:48
with leaders.
03:49 - 03:53
Um, I think inflexibility, poor communication skills and excess pride
03:53 - 03:55
are all really bad qualities toe have.
03:55 - 03:58
If you're a leader when you're later, I think flexibility
03:59 - 03:59
is really important.
04:00 - 04:02
And when you're inflexible and stuck in your ways, it
04:03 - 04:07
negatively impacts productivity and positive feel the positivity levels of
04:07 - 04:10
the group and those your around and regarding poor communication.
04:11 - 04:13
If you can't communicate with your group or those around
04:14 - 04:15
you, nothing's gonna get done.
04:15 - 04:18
And no relationships will be made with your members or
04:19 - 04:20
those that you're working with.
04:21 - 04:24
I also think excess pride is a negative quality because
04:25 - 04:26
being prideful in what you're doing is good.
04:27 - 04:29
But if you're too prideful in yourself and you could
04:30 - 04:33
never admit when you're wrong, it can really negatively impact
04:33 - 04:36
relationships with others because they're not going to really want
04:36 - 04:36
to talk to you.
04:37 - 04:41
And some examples of negative leaders are President Hoover, Ivan
04:42 - 04:47
the Terrible and Hitler moving on to my styles of
04:47 - 04:50
leadership. The style of leadership that I use most is
04:51 - 04:51
the coaching style.
04:52 - 04:54
I use it most because it's the one that I'm
04:54 - 04:57
most comfortable in and the style that I generally have
04:58 - 05:00
thio use while being a section leader for color guard.
05:01 - 05:04
I do use Democratic when we're deciding a group game
05:04 - 05:07
or something important that impacts all of us, and we'll
05:07 - 05:10
get the general feedback from our section and then me
05:10 - 05:12
and the leadership team will decide how we want to
05:12 - 05:17
proceed. I also used Lazy, Fair Um, sometimes we'll just
05:17 - 05:21
tell them like what we need to review and give
05:21 - 05:24
them the review time while me and the other section
05:24 - 05:27
leader go and work on other stuff I don't use
05:28 - 05:28
autocratic as much.
05:29 - 05:31
But there are times when decisions just have to be
05:31 - 05:34
made and we all have to know the same thing
05:34 - 05:36
and being be on the same page, and we don't
05:36 - 05:38
have time to discuss it as a group.
05:40 - 05:42
Some challenges that I face is a leader are knowing
05:42 - 05:45
when to implement the different styles of leading and how
05:45 - 05:45
to do it correctly.
05:47 - 05:49
I also need to be more comfortable in the different
05:49 - 05:52
styles of leading instead of just always reverting back to
05:53 - 05:56
my go to sky because one style isn't gonna work
05:56 - 05:59
for every situation or person I come across, and I
06:00 - 06:02
also need to be more comfortable with asking for help.
06:03 - 06:06
So some ways that I can overcome these challenges are
06:07 - 06:10
researching the other leading styles and practicing them in a
06:10 - 06:12
controlled environment like junior leaders.
06:12 - 06:14
So I could become more comfortable in.
06:14 - 06:16
And though when to use them.
06:18 - 06:22
I can also ask advice, ask for advice from other
06:22 - 06:25
leaders if I'm unsure how to deal with something and
06:25 - 06:27
just kind of ask them questions about how they would
06:27 - 06:29
deal with certain situations or people.
06:30 - 06:33
And if something isn't working, I should try something new.
06:34 - 06:37
I can't be afraid of trying new things just because
06:37 - 06:38
I haven't done them before.
06:39 - 06:41
I should also be learning from all of my mistakes.
06:42 - 06:44
You learn more from mistakes than you do from successes,
06:46 - 06:47
so you can't be afraid to make the mistakes.
06:50 - 06:53
This slide is all about my why it's my personal
06:53 - 06:57
statement. It's the reason that I want to be a
06:57 - 07:01
leader. I want to help others develop positive habits and
07:01 - 07:04
the confidence to self motivate so that they want to
07:04 - 07:07
do their best in both schoolwork, such activities and life.
07:09 - 07:09
That's it.
07:10 - 07:11
Thanks for watching my video.
07:12 - 07:12
Can't wait to watch yours.
