00:00 - 00:05
Hello New a UK students. Welcome to a UK university.
00:05 - 00:09
My colleague Jenna, Jennifer and I are honoured in your presence with us
00:09 - 00:12
and your admission to a UK university.
00:12 - 00:14
A UK is not like other.
00:15 - 00:15
It's a home
00:17 - 00:18
in a okay.
00:18 - 00:24
You can discover your braids skills and develop yourself in that university.
00:25 - 00:27
But at the beginning,
00:27 - 00:29
we would like to tell you some of the most
00:29 - 00:34
important tips that you should look forward to as a new
00:34 - 00:36
as a new student at the U. K.
00:37 - 00:38
So to this presentation,
00:38 - 00:44
we will look forward to talk about some academic advice is and how to manage
00:44 - 00:49
your time and the facilities that are available at the UK and only I say.
00:49 - 00:50
Okay,
00:50 - 00:58
So to begin with, let's understand more about the academic centre here at a UK as, um,
00:58 - 01:01
as a Aaliyah, we're now on the next slide.
01:01 - 01:03
Explain more about it.
01:04 - 01:04
Yeah,
01:05 - 01:09
so the first and the most important advice I'm going to
01:09 - 01:15
give a new a UK student is go to the Career centre
01:15 - 01:18
or speak to a career advisor early on
01:19 - 01:23
because there's one thing you can never do too soon,
01:23 - 01:28
and that's to start gathering information about options for life after college.
01:28 - 01:31
And, um, you may find surprising,
01:31 - 01:35
But many UK is just so little or nothing about
01:35 - 01:39
a wonderful career resource that's right in their backyard.
01:40 - 01:41
The campus career centre
01:42 - 01:45
and most, um,
01:45 - 01:49
most colleges and universities has a career service
01:49 - 01:53
office whose sole purpose is helping um,
01:53 - 01:55
students with Carrie related issues.
01:55 - 02:01
But despite the career service office at UK, surprisingly
02:02 - 02:04
few students take advantage of their expertise
02:05 - 02:06
and honestly speaking.
02:06 - 02:14
That's a shame because, um, as many recent and not so recent UK graduates can attest,
02:15 - 02:16
Um,
02:17 - 02:20
and the Career Services Office could well be
02:20 - 02:24
the most important resource on a UK campus.
02:24 - 02:24
When,
02:24 - 02:30
um when it comes to helping you envision and plan for your future and your career
02:31 - 02:32
and guys,
02:33 - 02:36
it's never too soon to start drafting your winning TV.
02:36 - 02:40
So start this look through project early on so
02:40 - 02:43
that by the time application deadlines come around,
02:43 - 02:46
you'll be ready to pick for success.
02:47 - 02:50
And now, the next slide. Um,
02:51 - 02:56
I'll give you another another advice for, um,
02:57 - 03:00
for an academic related.
03:02 - 03:05
So my second advice will be
03:05 - 03:08
think wisely before deciding on your major.
03:09 - 03:14
So we know that choosing a college major can be overwhelming,
03:14 - 03:16
but have no fear.
03:16 - 03:20
Your choice of major luck lock you into into
03:20 - 03:23
a specific career for the rest of your life.
03:23 - 03:28
With that being said, you will spend a lot of time on whatever subject you choose.
03:29 - 03:33
Like if you truly have no idea what you want to study,
03:33 - 03:37
that's totally okay. Because here at the U. K.
03:37 - 03:41
Guess what? Guess what? Here at the U. K.
03:41 - 03:46
They don't require students to declare a major until sophomore year.
03:48 - 03:52
So that gives you about four years to play on the field,
03:52 - 03:56
make the most of any required General General education courses.
03:57 - 03:59
Choose when that interests you.
04:00 - 04:06
And, um uh, okay, they provide a wide variety figures.
04:06 - 04:10
There are certain measures that are only available at a Okay,
04:10 - 04:12
um, and, for example, graphic design,
04:12 - 04:18
a graphic design leader is a great way to build this close to enter the design field.
04:18 - 04:19
Um,
04:19 - 04:23
and other relevant majors of graphic design that
04:23 - 04:26
are available at UK include Web development,
04:26 - 04:31
industrial, industrial, um, design and digital art.
04:32 - 04:37
And the good news here at the U. K. Is that, um, as a freshman,
04:38 - 04:38
um,
04:38 - 04:43
they recommend courses that help you learn more about yourself as a college
04:43 - 04:48
student in order to help you pick a major that you would most,
04:48 - 04:51
um, likely succeed in
04:51 - 04:53
it. Be creative and
04:55 - 04:58
the first word of advice I would give to a UK students.
05:00 - 05:00
Yes,
05:00 - 05:05
I would give to a UK students regarding time management would be arriving at campus
05:05 - 05:09
20 minutes earlier so you can find a parking spot if you drive to campus.
05:09 - 05:14
It is a smart idea to arrive 20 minutes prior to one year classes scheduled.
05:14 - 05:17
This is because the parking lot at a UK time to get crowded,
05:17 - 05:20
making it difficult and time consuming to find a parking spot
05:20 - 05:23
arriving 20 minutes early gives you the time to find a parking spot,
05:23 - 05:26
stress free and still not be late to cost.
05:26 - 05:28
This is useful to know,
05:28 - 05:32
because tardiness and attendants ken and will affect your overall grade,
05:32 - 05:34
so you must be cautious with your arrival times.
05:37 - 05:39
The final word of advice I have for upcoming a UK
05:39 - 05:43
students regarding time management would be to register for classes early,
05:43 - 05:47
with short breaks in between to make more use of your time and not waste your day.
05:47 - 05:50
This also saves your energy throughout the day because you will
05:50 - 05:53
not be held back at campus waiting for your classes.
05:54 - 05:56
It is also a pain to have long breaks in between your classes
05:56 - 06:00
because you would have to go home and then come back to campus.
06:00 - 06:05
Aim for 2 to 3 classes Max a day and do not tyre yourself.
06:06 - 06:07
My advice to you
06:07 - 06:09
is try to engage in the community.
06:09 - 06:14
He was a new students in the UK try to be more like two by joining student activities.
06:14 - 06:18
One of the activities is the different events are
06:19 - 06:21
being held every week.
06:21 - 06:27
These events include many, many different topics such as sports writing, uh,
06:27 - 06:32
library, uh, resources, uh, psychology, art, health issues, and so on.
06:33 - 06:40
You can know more about it through email as, uh, student clubs and organisations.
06:41 - 06:45
They sent detailed email every Sunday morning.
06:46 - 06:49
There are also different clubs with different interests.
06:49 - 06:52
You can try joining one or more than one.
06:52 - 06:58
That's what your own thoughts or if you have an idea that is not available,
06:58 - 07:02
you can create your own club with people who share the same thoughts.
07:02 - 07:06
You need only five people to start your club
07:07 - 07:14
and my last advice is that, um use the resources that are available on the campus,
07:14 - 07:16
such as the tutoring centre.
07:17 - 07:23
Um, the tutoring centre gives you, um, as a student the skills that you need, um,
07:23 - 07:27
in order in order to study and learn on your own way.
07:28 - 07:34
Um, so you can reach your goals both inside and outside of the university
07:35 - 07:36
as, um,
07:36 - 07:40
tutoring can help you develop better communication skills
07:40 - 07:45
and better relationships with peers inside and outside the
07:46 - 07:48
the classroom or university.
07:51 - 07:52
In conclusion,
07:52 - 07:56
you guys did a great job for choosing your university wisely
07:56 - 08:00
because the UK is one of the best universities out there.
08:00 - 08:03
So try taking advantage of the great work
08:03 - 08:07
that the university offers to get the greatest,
08:07 - 08:09
um, possible benefit
08:10 - 08:12
and last but not least,
08:12 - 08:15
choose your major wisely and try to organise your
08:15 - 08:19
time well and avoid waiting time by being late.
08:19 - 08:24
With that being said, if you took these tips and advice is under consideration,
08:24 - 08:27
I can guarantee you that you will have the best
08:28 - 08:32
years and the best experience here at a UK.
08:32 - 08:34
Thank you guys for listening
08:35 - 08:36
and have a great day
