00:01 - 00:03
Hello and welcome.
00:03 - 00:06
My name is Jasmine Griffin and today I will
00:06 - 00:11
be recording a presentation for my educational leadership portfolio.
00:13 - 00:14
To begin,
00:15 - 00:19
I currently hold the position of director of curriculum and instruction
00:19 - 00:24
and I am also a doctoral student of educational leadership at King University.
00:25 - 00:26
To begin my presentation,
00:26 - 00:30
I would like to share what my style of leadership is
00:31 - 00:33
as an educational leader.
00:33 - 00:36
I understand that leadership should be horizontal,
00:36 - 00:40
allowing for as much collaboration on decision making as possible.
00:41 - 00:43
I firmly believe that
00:43 - 00:48
creating leadership opportunities for employees is extremely important.
00:49 - 00:55
It's also important to shift and maintain positive mindsets and motivate
00:55 - 00:58
everyone to strive to be the best professional that they can be
01:00 - 01:03
in certain areas. I believe that change should happen quickly
01:03 - 01:05
rather than slowly
01:05 - 01:09
initiatives and plans will take time to be implemented.
01:09 - 01:10
However,
01:10 - 01:14
organizational shifts and change thinking should be an ongoing
01:15 - 01:19
in cyclical process that school leaders and administrators tackle everyday
01:21 - 01:24
through transformational and distributed leadership style.
01:24 - 01:29
I hope to create a learning environment that is conducive and both
01:30 - 01:32
great teaching and learning
01:35 - 01:39
to continue. I'd like to discuss my philosophy of education
01:40 - 01:44
at the core of my philosophy is seeing into a student's world and
01:44 - 01:47
shaping his or her educational experience around
01:47 - 01:50
making the tools needed for that student
01:50 - 01:53
to be a productive and well informed citizen accessible
01:54 - 01:56
through evidence based decision making.
01:56 - 02:00
Educational leaders must empower teachers, parents,
02:00 - 02:02
students and other stakeholders to embrace
02:02 - 02:05
and develop innovative initiatives that helped
02:05 - 02:10
to create safe nurturing learning environments for both students and employees.
02:11 - 02:15
I seek to work collectively with key stakeholders to establish and
02:15 - 02:20
sustain learning communities that address the needs of the whole child.
02:21 - 02:24
School leaders must also consider the inclusive
02:24 - 02:30
inclusivity of all marginalized populations of students in an effort
02:30 - 02:35
to improve and enhance the educational experience of all students.
02:35 - 02:39
to quote m. p. b. e. A. 2015
02:40 - 02:43
lead with interpersonal and communication skills,
02:43 - 02:48
social emotional insight and understanding of all students and staff members,
02:48 - 02:49
backgrounds and cultures.
02:51 - 02:53
This can be best done in a school community
02:53 - 02:58
that embraces the use of both qualitative and quantitative data
02:59 - 03:00
to problem solve.
03:00 - 03:04
It is equally as important to nurture and develop the professional
03:04 - 03:10
growth of instructional and support staff as well as maintain collaborative,
03:10 - 03:11
transparent,
03:11 - 03:16
supportive and healthy communication in order to achieve the common goal of
03:16 - 03:21
positively impacting the lives of students and families who rely on us.
03:24 - 03:25
Next,
03:25 - 03:31
I will move on to my internship abstract which will give you an overview of um some
03:31 - 03:35
of the challenges and obstacles as well as pros
03:35 - 03:40
that were experienced during my internship this semester.
03:42 - 03:46
Um This semester I utilized the matrix task to expand
03:46 - 03:51
on my knowledge of um effectively leading um an organization,
03:52 - 03:55
many of the tests that we're highlighting um that
03:55 - 03:59
that I highlighted in my work this semester focused
03:59 - 04:05
on um creating improvement plans and uh documents and
04:05 - 04:11
reviewing other school documents to provide recommendations and feedback.
04:12 - 04:18
Um It called for an evaluation and analysis of many different documents,
04:18 - 04:21
some um that did not exist um
04:22 - 04:26
or some that were in major need of revision and review.
04:26 - 04:30
A major takeaway from my internship this semester um is
04:30 - 04:33
the importance of districts um and schools to develop,
04:33 - 04:39
review and continuously revise important district documents um
04:39 - 04:42
or or improvement plans in different areas.
04:43 - 04:48
The major barrier that I had to overcome was documents and information
04:48 - 04:54
uh either not being available or in some cases not being made accessible.
04:54 - 05:00
Some data that should have been um available was not um which
05:00 - 05:04
left some holes in my ability to develop an action plan,
05:04 - 05:07
um improvements and other documents for future use.
05:08 - 05:12
The highlight of the internship is that it helped me to identify
05:12 - 05:16
um plans and information that school
05:16 - 05:19
administrators should work collaboratively on developing
05:19 - 05:25
um and also identifying areas and documents and information that should be
05:25 - 05:31
made readily accessible for key stakeholders in a transparent and open manner
