00:01 - 00:02
Hi, Professor
00:02 - 00:05
Husin in class. Um this is Maram
00:05 - 00:09
Manukian and I will be presenting on iron deficiency anemia.
00:10 - 00:13
So the little guy on the side, he seems confused and lost.
00:13 - 00:16
So I'm hoping by the end of this presentation,
00:16 - 00:19
he too will know what iron deficiency anemia is.
00:20 - 00:22
So let's jump right to it.
00:23 - 00:26
Iron deficiency anemia is a condition
00:26 - 00:30
uh in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells.
00:30 - 00:35
So in the image, you can see normal blood has a good amount of red blood cells,
00:35 - 00:38
it's evenly, you know, distributed in the picture.
00:38 - 00:40
Whereas in an anemic patient,
00:41 - 00:44
um the red blood cell count is a lot less.
00:47 - 00:49
So a little bit of patho
00:49 - 00:49
uh
00:49 - 00:53
red blood cells carry oxygen to the body's tissues.
00:53 - 00:59
However, due to the iron deficiency, your body can't produce enough hemoglobin
00:59 - 01:03
in the red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen.
01:03 - 01:06
So oxygen is obviously we all know very important,
01:06 - 01:11
all of our tissues need oxygen in order to you know, for us to survive.
01:11 - 01:13
And so when
01:13 - 01:16
um you have iron deficiency,
01:16 - 01:20
the body is basically it doesn't produce enough hemoglobin.
01:20 - 01:25
And in this image, you see the disc part is that he part
01:25 - 01:28
and in the middle of the disc is the iron.
01:28 - 01:33
So, if you're lacking a hem hemoglobin and obviously iron,
01:33 - 01:35
it's gonna be very difficult,
01:35 - 01:41
as you can imagine for your tissues to receive the oxygen that they need to survive.
01:45 - 01:49
So what does this result in? I don't want to get into too much detail, but
01:49 - 01:51
when you lack oxygen
01:52 - 01:56
and your, the oxygen is not, your tissues are not receiving enough oxygen.
01:56 - 01:59
You're actually going to be very fatigued and tired.
01:59 - 02:05
And, um, shortness of breath is also something that you will, um, experience.
02:07 - 02:09
So what can you do? You might be thinking?
02:09 - 02:13
Oh, I, I'm feeling like I'm tired and shortness of breath is
02:13 - 02:19
usually what I experience. Um, so it can be reversed or it can be corrected by
02:19 - 02:21
taking some supplements,
02:21 - 02:26
some iron supplements and then also including a iron rich food diet.
02:26 - 02:29
Um, can be something that
02:30 - 02:31
you can try.
02:31 - 02:36
Obviously in moderation, you can have some red, uh, red meat, you know,
02:36 - 02:38
there's some various vegetables,
02:38 - 02:41
pumpkin seeds. Um,
02:41 - 02:45
so these all can improve your iron deficiency.
