00:01 - 00:06
Hello. Everyone is wonderful to be back. I hope you have a good week.
00:06 - 00:08
And you had to enjoy the wonderful sunshine.
00:08 - 00:11
I'm definitely a bit brown today and I was this time last week.
00:11 - 00:16
It is wonderful to be back with you as we continue to look at some of
00:16 - 00:20
the stories we find in the Bible of what we could be learning about them.
00:20 - 00:23
So let's start off with our first question.
00:23 - 00:28
So what is something that you can do that no one else can do better?
00:28 - 00:32
So what can you do that no one else can do better.
00:32 - 00:38
So, for instance, I think I would have to be. I think I make the best brownies.
00:38 - 00:40
I'm sure there might be other people in the world to do better,
00:40 - 00:42
but I think I'm pretty good brownies.
00:42 - 00:45
So that is something that I think I'm very good at. So what about you?
00:45 - 00:49
What are you very good at? What do you think you're better at it than anyone else?
00:49 - 00:50
If you go,
00:51 - 00:55
I'd love to hear some of the things that you said would be lovely to hear about what?
00:55 - 00:58
Some of the things that you're very good at now when I asked my kids,
00:58 - 01:01
at the moment they're very good at most.
01:01 - 01:03
The answers are either dinosaur hunting.
01:03 - 01:05
They love their dinosaurs at the moment or eating,
01:05 - 01:09
and they can definitely eat a lot more than most other people.
01:09 - 01:12
But there is a reason behind what I'm asking this. And we are going to look at
01:13 - 01:17
a story in the Bible that Jesus told and Jesus told lots
01:17 - 01:23
of stories called parables now parables the stories with a meaning.
01:23 - 01:25
Okay, the stories with a meaning in them.
01:25 - 01:29
Okay, so they're trying to teach us something, and there's lots of different level.
01:29 - 01:32
Sometimes it's very simple message. Sometimes it's a very difficult message.
01:32 - 01:37
But today is a story called the parable of the talents.
01:37 - 01:44
Jesus told the story of a long time ago. A man went on a journey and he owned.
01:44 - 01:49
He was a very rich man, and he had lots of servants who would take care of things.
01:49 - 01:51
So while he was away on this journey,
01:51 - 01:57
he chose three servants and he gave them each some money.
01:57 - 01:59
And he said, Here is some money
02:00 - 02:04
I want you want you. I want you to take care of this while I'm away.
02:04 - 02:07
One person who really trusted he gave five.
02:07 - 02:11
So this was the one who felt very talented, someone who could do a lot with this
02:11 - 02:16
someone else he gave to. He thought, Yeah, that's quite talented, trust them.
02:16 - 02:18
And then one person who gave one gold coin
02:19 - 02:25
and he wanted to see what all these people do with this money because they're Imagine
02:26 - 02:30
if one of your parents or grandparent's gave you some
02:30 - 02:31
money and I'm going to go on a journey.
02:31 - 02:36
You to take care of this for me. What would you do with the money?
02:36 - 02:39
Would you hide it away and forget about it? Would you spend it?
02:39 - 02:42
Would you try and make more money? What do you think you would do?
02:43 - 02:45
Let's hear about an expert in our story.
02:45 - 02:51
So the person who had five talents, they decided they wanted to make more money.
02:51 - 02:54
They really wanted to make this man proud.
02:54 - 02:57
So they went away and they started with five talents
02:57 - 03:00
of five gold coin and they made five more.
03:00 - 03:01
They doubled the amount.
03:01 - 03:06
The person who had to go coins did the same and they doubled their money.
03:06 - 03:08
But the person who had one.
03:08 - 03:13
I was thinking, Well, I could make more money, but I could also lose the money I have.
03:13 - 03:16
So he does a big hole and he hit the money.
03:16 - 03:20
He hit his gold coin away because he was a bit scared about what might happen.
03:21 - 03:26
So then, after a long time, the man came back
03:27 - 03:31
and he said, What have you done while I've been away? What have you done to my money?
03:31 - 03:35
And the first person said, I have used your money wisely and look,
03:35 - 03:40
you gave me a 5.5 talents and here is five more.
03:40 - 03:45
And then the next person said You gave me to talents and I wanted to make you proud.
03:45 - 03:48
So I have made to mourn Here's for
03:48 - 03:53
And he was so happy he came and give him a hug. And he said, Amazing.
03:53 - 03:58
Look at how well you've used this money in these talents.
03:59 - 04:01
But the person who has given one
04:02 - 04:07
he was a bit sad, he realized, dug a hole, and he wasted that he told the master he was.
04:07 - 04:09
I thought you would be really angry
04:10 - 04:14
if you've lost your money and I didn't want to risk it I didn't want to risk losing it.
04:14 - 04:19
So instead I buried in a big hole in my head. It So here's the one coin back,
04:19 - 04:24
the master said. But that wasn't the point, was it? You've wasted this opportunity.
04:24 - 04:28
You've wasted this money. You could have gone out and made more.
04:29 - 04:31
So he was quite sad at the end of it.
04:31 - 04:33
And what he thought he'd get angry.
04:33 - 04:36
And he did get angry, but for a different reason, didn't he?
04:36 - 04:39
No. I think this is a very powerful story.
04:39 - 04:43
And as we always finish, what is the moral of the story? So pause here.
04:43 - 04:46
What do you think this story is trying to teach us? Off you go.
04:47 - 04:50
Amazing. There's lots of different things we can learn from this.
04:50 - 04:55
But I think the big message is all about using
04:55 - 04:59
the talent and gifts we've been given as a Christian.
04:59 - 05:04
I believe that God gives us gifts and sometimes it could be a gift of,
05:04 - 05:10
um, a house or food, but he gives us other gifts. So I think he gives people
05:10 - 05:13
good characteristics and these are going
05:13 - 05:15
to make something very kind.
05:15 - 05:18
He makes some very clever to make something very helpful.
05:18 - 05:22
Someone who's really good at talking to people and making sure everyone's okay.
05:23 - 05:26
And I think this is trying to teach us to use
05:26 - 05:29
these gifts we've been given because we don't use them,
05:29 - 05:31
they'll just disappear, won't they?
05:31 - 05:36
Just like, if you're really sporty, imagine if you're really good at swimming.
05:36 - 05:40
Now, if you don't use that, if you don't practice and try and make it better,
05:40 - 05:42
you won't be as good as for other.
05:42 - 05:44
People will get better, won't they?
05:44 - 05:47
And the better they get more time to invest in them,
05:47 - 05:50
even get better and better and better, won't they?
05:50 - 05:53
Same as if you thought that you've got a gift
05:53 - 05:55
for getting to know people and making friends really easily.
05:55 - 05:58
You don't use that. You're gonna waste it.
05:58 - 06:03
So the challenge for all of us that all of us have been given different talents,
06:03 - 06:05
different gifts, actually.
06:05 - 06:08
So if you go about this week, think about how can you use these talents.
06:09 - 06:11
How can you use these tools to help people?
06:11 - 06:16
How can you use your talents and your gifts to make the world a better place?
06:16 - 06:18
So I hope that story stays with you.
06:18 - 06:19
This week,
06:19 - 06:24
and I hope that you can go out and use your amazing talent because all of us have any.
06:24 - 06:27
If you're seeing that, I'm thinking I don't know what I'm good at.
06:27 - 06:29
All of us are good at something.
06:29 - 06:32
So go out and use your talents this week and
06:32 - 06:34
I look forward to hearing about the more next week.
06:34 - 06:35
Okay, See you soon.
