00:02 - 00:04
salutations running his kindred.
00:05 - 00:08
And I am, ah, recycling coordinator for the Ori County
00:08 - 00:09
solid waste authority.
00:10 - 00:13
And today we're gonna do a virtual presentation.
00:15 - 00:22
Um, normally at this time, we are super involved with
00:22 - 00:28
schools and helping them recycle and getting them excited about
00:29 - 00:33
recycling during the school year and having contest and, um,
00:35 - 00:36
presentations and music.
00:38 - 00:40
Um, but all that is kind of come to a
00:40 - 00:45
halt right now, um, we do staff trainings.
00:46 - 00:51
And for the students and the staff and the employees
00:52 - 00:53
and the teachers and whoever lets us in their classroom,
00:55 - 00:55
we have green teams.
00:57 - 00:59
Um, this this year is a little different.
01:01 - 01:06
Um, we don't know exactly what all that looks like.
01:06 - 01:09
Yet as far as the school here goes, we will
01:10 - 01:14
be having contest and recycling challenges and things like that
01:15 - 01:15
throughout the school year.
01:16 - 01:19
Well, we just don't know when that's gonna take place
01:20 - 01:24
yet. So today I thought, um, the Orange County solid
01:24 - 01:30
waste authority, um, just decided to offer access to environmental
01:31 - 01:36
information pertaining to Rory County that will be online and
01:37 - 01:44
offline. Formats of these include lesson plans, virtual presentations, virtual
01:45 - 01:50
tours of our facilities on these platforms for communication with
01:51 - 01:55
teachers, students, parents and residents of Orange County will be
01:55 - 02:01
made available out the closure period and the reopening period
02:02 - 02:03
due to cope with 19.
02:05 - 02:10
With that being said, um, we're not physically in the
02:10 - 02:13
school systems right now, So we wanted to talk to
02:13 - 02:19
you about, um, recycling and waste reduction while you're at
02:19 - 02:24
home. It can still be, um, a life skill that
02:24 - 02:24
we can teach our Children.
02:26 - 02:29
Um, that doesn't have to stop just because we're not
02:29 - 02:30
in the classroom.
02:32 - 02:36
And this is currently what the waste stream looks like
02:36 - 02:37
in Orange County.
02:38 - 02:41
So these items are what are going into the landfill.
02:42 - 02:48
Currently, paper and cardboard take up the most space in
02:48 - 02:52
a landfill, and our schools do a really great job
02:52 - 02:55
of helping us keep that out of the land, feel
02:56 - 02:59
they're really big on our programs, and they support our
02:59 - 03:02
programs. And we are so appreciative of that.
03:03 - 03:05
But we also want to bring to your attention that
03:06 - 03:08
it doesn't have to stop while you're at home.
03:10 - 03:15
Please continue to educate your kids or your neighbors or
03:15 - 03:17
your family members about the importance of recycling.
03:18 - 03:20
And if we can just keep paper and cardboard out
03:20 - 03:22
of the landfill and recycle it properly.
03:24 - 03:25
We'll be doing a really great job there.
03:35 - 03:42
So we have 24 recycling convenience centers throughout Rory County.
03:44 - 03:49
And they all pretty much look like this are you?
03:49 - 03:51
Drive in and you drive out.
03:51 - 03:55
We have a recycling attendant there to help you, but
03:55 - 04:00
keep in mind, as of late, traffic has been really
04:00 - 04:03
crazy with people trying to get in and out.
04:03 - 04:04
And we want you to be safe.
04:05 - 04:06
We want you to pay attention to the cars.
04:07 - 04:10
And we also want you to keep that, um, safe
04:11 - 04:15
distance, Um, from one another at the moment, or at
04:15 - 04:18
this time until this, and dim it goes away.
04:19 - 04:20
Um, and we ask that you be patient.
04:22 - 04:25
Um, a lot of the attendants are overwhelmed with material
04:25 - 04:32
coming in and at each recycling center, you can dispose
04:33 - 04:37
of your garbage and the designated recycled in the designated
04:38 - 04:42
container throughout Ori County.
04:44 - 04:48
Um, you're going your garbage along with your recyclables can
04:48 - 04:50
be taken to a center if you are a resident
04:50 - 04:51
of Orange County.
04:52 - 04:56
But again, make sure you're putting the garbage in the
04:56 - 05:00
designated container, and we also want to encourage you to
05:01 - 05:06
recycle. This is a list of where all of the
05:07 - 05:10
sites are along with the hours of operation.
05:12 - 05:17
And we are very aware, but you cannot read that.
05:19 - 05:22
So if you are interested and would like to have
05:23 - 05:27
some information about your centers where they are, um what
05:28 - 05:33
the hours of operation are, um, where they're located and
05:34 - 05:34
what times?
05:35 - 05:39
Ah, you can visit them during the weekend during the
05:39 - 05:42
day we have a recycling God book that we would
05:42 - 05:43
like to provide to you.
05:44 - 05:48
Um, you can request these via email, um, or by
05:49 - 05:49
giving us a call.
05:50 - 05:52
And we'll be happy to send you one out.
05:52 - 05:54
Or you can pick one up at the center if
05:55 - 05:56
you already know where yours is located.
05:59 - 06:04
This is not the proper way to use your recycle
06:05 - 06:10
center. What are we teaching kids when they ride by
06:10 - 06:11
the recycle center and see this?
06:12 - 06:13
This is illegal.
06:14 - 06:17
Um, and we just ask you not to do it.
06:17 - 06:17
It's an eyesore.
06:19 - 06:23
And again, if you're if you'll just be patient with
06:23 - 06:26
us, um, getting the centers open, getting you in and
06:26 - 06:28
out of there, that would be super.
06:30 - 06:32
We just ask that you don't put your garbage outside
06:33 - 06:33
of the gates.
06:34 - 06:38
Um, we're working very hard around the clock to ensure
06:38 - 06:40
that we keep Orry County clean.
06:41 - 06:43
But we also need your help in doing served.
06:48 - 06:50
And these items are what could be taken to the
06:50 - 06:52
center to be recycled.
06:53 - 06:56
And again, I realized that you cannot read this.
06:58 - 07:02
So therefore, again, I'm going to stress to you this
07:02 - 07:06
handy dandy recycling God book, Um, again, that we can,
07:07 - 07:09
um, mail to you or you can pick up at
07:10 - 07:11
your center if you know where that is.
07:13 - 07:14
But things that you can take to you recycle center
07:15 - 07:20
are things like paper, cardboard, glass, metal magazines, junk mail,
07:21 - 07:31
oil, um, batteries, book ways, yard waste and recycling really
07:31 - 07:32
does help on Earth.
07:33 - 07:36
And it helps us make our landfill last longer and
07:36 - 07:38
again. Recycling is not main tour here in Orange County
07:39 - 07:39
is a choice.
07:42 - 07:49
So these items such as paint cleaners, chemicals, oxidizer is
07:49 - 07:50
chlorine things of that nature.
07:51 - 07:53
This is household hazardous waste.
07:54 - 07:58
These hazardous products and chemicals require special handling.
07:59 - 08:02
This is to protect you and to protect our environment.
08:03 - 08:08
Our recycle centers do not accept household hazardous waste material.
08:09 - 08:12
It must be taken too early and feel location located
08:13 - 08:17
at 18 86 Highway 90 And it is at no
08:17 - 08:19
charge, Torrey County residents.
08:20 - 08:22
That is the free service that we offer Teoh.
08:25 - 08:26
And guess what?
08:26 - 08:29
It's also in this handy, dandy recycling God book that
08:29 - 08:33
we want to give to yet office.
08:36 - 08:40
So thank you for joining in, um, today listening to
08:40 - 08:41
me run my mouth.
08:42 - 08:45
We appreciate all your efforts and helping us keep Ori
08:45 - 08:45
County beautiful.
08:47 - 08:51
