00:00 - 00:05
Alright. I've chosen to do my project with ethics violations
00:05 - 00:09
about um Kylie Jenner's company and um fashion line.
00:10 - 00:13
Um And this one I put Carly's cosmetics um But
00:14 - 00:16
in this I'll be going over a couple of other
00:16 - 00:23
things. Okay, so I wanted to go over a brief
00:25 - 00:30
history Trying to give you an idea.
00:31 - 00:35
Um in 2015 November 2015, car released her lip kits
00:35 - 00:36
that go on sale.
00:37 - 00:40
Um After that she comes out with the sky shadow
00:41 - 00:45
palettes Which are eyeshadow palettes are also released and after
00:46 - 00:48
18 months in business she is on track to hit
00:48 - 00:54
$1 billion 2022 which is actually coming up here in
00:54 - 00:55
the next year.
00:55 - 00:57
Um so this is a little brief overview.
00:58 - 01:01
Um she is really really popular at age 18.
01:01 - 01:06
She comes out with her own company and it becomes
01:06 - 01:06
really, really successful.
01:10 - 01:13
So you know what we're talking about now is the
01:13 - 01:16
unethical business practices.
01:19 - 01:21
So, some of the things that I looked over and
01:21 - 01:23
found out was that online.
01:24 - 01:26
Indeed, review says that the factory that she ran, which
01:26 - 01:29
is called um spats laboratories, that she had gotten a
01:29 - 01:32
bunch of reviews saying that when they worked there it
01:33 - 01:36
was really dirty, it was kind of hot and they
01:36 - 01:40
get paid minimum wage and they also just overall this
01:41 - 01:43
didn't really like their job and there was a lot
01:44 - 01:47
of beef that happened between a lot of the, I'm
01:48 - 01:50
quote unquote alpha females that work there and there wasn't
01:51 - 01:52
really much of an opportunity to move up.
01:53 - 01:56
So I looked at more information um you know about
01:56 - 02:00
this and I learned that global brands group is the
02:00 - 02:02
group that works with the Kardashians.
02:03 - 02:07
There are uh this global grand group actually owns and
02:07 - 02:10
controls most of Kylie Jenner and the generous factory.
02:11 - 02:14
So this is why I mentioned the cosmetics and their
02:14 - 02:16
fashion line, Kylie and Kendall fashion line.
02:16 - 02:20
They have a lot of factories in Bangladesh and in
02:20 - 02:24
Bangladesh. The workers there are basically worked for very, very,
02:24 - 02:25
very low rates.
02:25 - 02:30
Um they don't have, they don't have um excuse me,
02:30 - 02:35
they don't have very many, they don't have a lot
02:35 - 02:37
of money in that country and a lot of them
02:38 - 02:39
working and making the products.
02:40 - 02:43
There are a lot of women that have been working
02:43 - 02:46
for years And like I said, they make very minimum
02:46 - 02:50
wage and as I also learned, actually learned that um
02:50 - 02:53
when the COVID-19 actually happened that there was an order
02:54 - 02:57
that was canceled and the worker just that work for
02:57 - 03:02
these businesses, you know for global brands group weren't getting
03:02 - 03:04
paid for the unemployment during the pandemic.
03:05 - 03:08
So they also lost a lot of money and you
03:08 - 03:11
know, Kylie didn't try and fix this, needed any Kardashian's
03:11 - 03:13
try and fix this, you know, they kind of just
03:13 - 03:15
cut their ends and just said, oh well business stopped
03:16 - 03:17
and they didn't want to do anything about the people
03:18 - 03:18
making them.
03:19 - 03:23
Also wanted to also mention to about these, the, some
03:23 - 03:25
of the workers in the laboratory said that the chemical
03:26 - 03:29
smells gave the employees headaches, so that was also one
03:29 - 03:31
of the unethical things that were happening.
03:33 - 03:35
So I'm going to go into who was affected.
03:36 - 03:39
Um workers for Carly's brand were majorly affected.
03:40 - 03:46
Um you know, they may not be able to deal
03:46 - 03:46
with this.
03:47 - 03:50
You know, um holes have been affected as college reputation
03:50 - 03:54
could potentially be affected and the customers also can be
03:54 - 03:55
affected by these choices as well.
03:57 - 03:59
Um The way that they are affected I want to
03:59 - 04:01
go into is a short term and long term effects.
04:01 - 04:05
So the way that the workers were affected was some
04:05 - 04:07
of these workers may never really financially recover from not
04:07 - 04:09
receiving earnings for such a long time.
04:09 - 04:13
So, you know, they may never be able to have
04:13 - 04:17
days off because they have to constantly go back and
04:17 - 04:18
work just to make up the money that they should
04:19 - 04:19
have made.
04:19 - 04:20
But they weren't.
04:20 - 04:23
Um there could be long term health effects from workers
04:23 - 04:25
that were the Mac in the makeup factories for such
04:25 - 04:25
a long time.
04:26 - 04:28
You know, just if they're getting headaches by being around
04:28 - 04:30
the products that they were creating, um they can definitely
04:31 - 04:33
have some long term health effects that they may not
04:33 - 04:33
know about.
04:34 - 04:37
And also another long term effect collagen could be boycotted
04:39 - 04:41
if more customers found out of these kind of unethical
04:42 - 04:46
practice, that unethical practices that she was she is doing
04:46 - 04:47
and continues to do.
04:49 - 04:52
But what this being said, this concludes my presentation.
