00:01 - 00:03
high grade 67 I hope you're all doing really well,
00:03 - 00:05
staying healthy and washing your hands.
00:06 - 00:08
I know it's been a long time since I've been
00:08 - 00:10
in your classroom, but my fingers are crossed that I
00:10 - 00:11
can get back there soon.
00:12 - 00:14
Um, in the meantime, I wanted to talk to you
00:14 - 00:16
guys about one of the questions I got, which was
00:17 - 00:17
how you become a nurse.
00:18 - 00:20
So I think it's really important to tell you guys
00:20 - 00:21
that I'm not a nurse yet.
00:21 - 00:22
I am a nursing student.
00:23 - 00:25
I'm still in school and I have about five months
00:26 - 00:29
left. But the process you would do or take in
00:29 - 00:32
order to become a nurse involves getting a bachelor of
00:32 - 00:34
science in nursing from a university.
00:35 - 00:37
If you stay in Saskatoon, that would likely be from
00:38 - 00:38
the University of Saskatchewan.
00:40 - 00:43
So it's a four year program the first year you
00:43 - 00:47
spend doing 10 classes that air prerequisites to get you
00:47 - 00:47
prepared for nursing.
00:48 - 00:53
So things like biology, math, English psychology, things like that.
00:53 - 00:56
And then once you're done that year, you apply into
00:56 - 00:59
the College of Nursing and you take three more years
00:59 - 01:02
of school, and after that you can become a registered
01:03 - 01:07
nurse, So it's four years of university after high school.
01:08 - 01:10
In the meantime, because you guys are on the horizon
01:10 - 01:13
of high school, I would really recommend focusing on things
01:13 - 01:15
like your maths and your sciences.
01:15 - 01:19
So biology and chemistry are probably going to come in
01:19 - 01:21
handy if you do decide to go into nursing.
01:22 - 01:23
I would focus on those.
01:24 - 01:27
And I think it's really important that everybody understands that
01:27 - 01:30
nursing is a difficult career academically.
01:31 - 01:32
Sometimes it gets difficult.
01:33 - 01:36
I struggle with it every day, but I think it's
01:36 - 01:39
very rewarding and something that, um, if you're passionate about,
01:39 - 01:40
is a great career choice.
01:41 - 01:44
So I sent Mr V another video to show you
01:44 - 01:47
guys all about the other things that nursing, um, staff
01:47 - 01:47
can Dio.
01:48 - 01:50
Nurses don't just work in hospitals and don't just work
01:50 - 01:50
in schools.
01:51 - 01:53
We can work in a variety of different places, and
01:53 - 01:55
I hope if you guys have any other questions about
01:55 - 01:58
nursing that, I can answer them in person fingers crossed.
01:59 - 01:59
So you guys later
