  1. Welcome to the story of my life.
  2. I've decided to show you guys my story through snapshots
  3. that I took along the way.
  4. Um so I was born in India on November 10th
  5. 2002 and We grew up in, I grew up in
  6. Hyderabad with my mom, dad and my little sister.
  7. Um this is a picture of me with my mom
  8. and sister, this is one with my dad.
  9. Um there's also one with my schoolmates in India and
  10. this was pretty much my life until the age of
  11. 13 and I don't think there was any question about
  12. my future being in India because we always thought that
  13. since it was our home, we would um I would
  14. grow up there and just eventually settled down there.
  15. However, um when I was around 13, my dad moved
  16. dissolved to America and I was kind of where the
  17. second half my story began.
  18. Um the first year was a lot of fun.
  19. We got to travel a lot because I didn't have
  20. to go to school just yet.
  21. Um So here's some pictures of me going to Virginia
  22. Houston, um the mountains and Washington.
  23. And it was, it was a weird time because it
  24. was difficult to be away from the only home I
  25. ever knew, but it was also fun to be a
  26. kid to explore and to spend time with my family
  27. that I probably didn't get before.
  28. And then um the challenge began when I started school.
  29. So I had a six month gap between starting schools
  30. from when I moved to India and it was my
  31. first year in high um middle school.
  32. I was in eighth grade, but it was my first
  33. year in an american middle school.
  34. Um So I think that was particularly challenging because kids
  35. my age when they see people of different cultures that
  36. they don't understand, things get awkward and they get strange
  37. and it definitely caused me to um change and uh,
  38. I think find a different version of myself that I
  39. was okay with, showing to people who weren't familiar with
  40. me. So, um, for example, kids in school, when I
  41. would talk about my culture or when I would talk,
  42. you know, they wouldn't understand my accent, they would think
  43. it was strange that I was bringing Rice as lunch
  44. to school every day.
  45. Um, so these things I think really made me aware
  46. of who I was as an individual and at that
  47. age, I think to hear these comments all the time,
  48. it really made me stop portraying that side of me.
  49. And it was, it was weird for a while because
  50. I didn't know how to act around people.
  51. Um, But then I went back home for the summer
  52. after 8th grade and I had a vision of India
  53. after I moved thinking it was only home I ever
  54. had and there was nothing, there was never going to
  55. be another home for me.
  56. But when I went back to India, it just made
  57. me realize that I don't think I had a home
  58. back there because it had been so long since I
  59. lived there and you know, my family was in America.
  60. So I don't think there was any, any kind of
  61. home left for me.
  62. So it was, it was strange going back and feeling
  63. out of place in a place where you've grown up
  64. for most of your life.
  65. Um, so that, that also gave me a different perspective
  66. and but in the end I think it wasn't a
  67. happy ending, but I did find new friends and new
  68. people who, who accepted me and who tried to understand
  69. me even though I was different from a lot of
  70. them. And I think surrounding myself with the right people,
  71. um, definitely made me come out of my shell more
  72. and I started to go back to the version I
  73. used to like being before I I had to change
  74. um to make it easier to adjust, but it was
  75. it this isn't an ending to my story, but it's
  76. certainly a start of happier one.
  77. And yeah, that's pretty much the end.
  78. I hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures um and
  79. snapshots that were important to me along my journey.
  80. So thank you.
