00:01 - 00:01
Good evening, everyone.
00:02 - 00:04
My name is Aaron Campbell, and this is going to
00:04 - 00:05
be my vision board posting.
00:06 - 00:08
I thought I would do something a little bit different
00:09 - 00:10
and actually create a video.
00:11 - 00:13
So without further ado, I'll get into it.
00:14 - 00:15
First Vision Board.
00:15 - 00:18
Question is, is how mindful am I and how do
00:18 - 00:18
I deal?
00:19 - 00:25
Stress, Um, in my experience, uh, had a lot of
00:25 - 00:27
stressful years throughout the military.
00:28 - 00:32
Um, went through a divorce, and within the past two
00:32 - 00:34
years, um, I like to say it was the most
00:35 - 00:36
stressful time in my life, but I learned how to
00:37 - 00:41
deal with stress and learn that I don't have control
00:41 - 00:48
over all the situations that I'm encountering, Um, learn to
00:48 - 00:49
lick a stress as I encounter it in a more
00:50 - 00:51
objective manner rather than subjective.
00:52 - 00:56
Try and see both sides of it and, uh, come
00:56 - 00:58
up with the best way to combat it by looking
00:58 - 00:58
at it objectively.
01:01 - 01:03
Next one is going to be What have I noticed
01:04 - 01:04
about my living environment?
01:05 - 01:09
Um, in years past, I've had what you would call
01:10 - 01:12
a dirty sink filled with dishes.
01:13 - 01:17
Uh, you know, a very disorganized kind of livelihood.
01:18 - 01:19
Um, it's not the case anymore.
01:20 - 01:23
Um, strive to be organized in my mind, which in
01:24 - 01:25
turn would cascade into reality.
01:25 - 01:29
A little bit of organization that I like to follow
01:30 - 01:32
is this picture that I have from out front of
01:32 - 01:39
my house right here, Um, and the beautiful state of
01:39 - 01:44
Washington. So, having a beautiful, beautiful place to live, I
01:44 - 01:48
think, um, allows you to have a more organized, um,
01:49 - 01:50
livelihood as well.
01:54 - 01:56
Ah, next one is gonna be What have I experienced
01:57 - 01:57
in my mindful breathing?
01:58 - 02:03
Um, I found it eases my anxiety whenever I detected
02:03 - 02:04
coming on.
02:04 - 02:07
I know this because I feel my heart racing a
02:07 - 02:07
little bit.
02:08 - 02:12
Um, and my breathing is not in the normal pace,
02:13 - 02:14
as it usually is.
02:15 - 02:17
I've discovered that I simply can't do the brain the
02:17 - 02:18
exercise for a couple of breaths and call it good.
02:19 - 02:23
I need to actually take my mental focus and, uh,
02:24 - 02:29
completely completely focus it on that specific breathing exercise.
02:30 - 02:34
Um, at the time, when I wrote this, uh, specific
02:35 - 02:38
answer to question number three of the Vision board, I
02:38 - 02:38
was in San Diego.
02:39 - 02:42
This is a picture from years passed when I was
02:42 - 02:44
down there and uh, I took this when I was
02:45 - 02:46
coming in from sea on my ship.
02:47 - 02:52
And, you know, Sonny, you know, took the time to,
02:52 - 02:54
uh, combat that short little bit of anxiety.
02:55 - 02:59
And I think it's actually kind of interesting that the
02:59 - 03:00
ocean breath technique is what I use.
03:01 - 03:03
And this is a picture of the ocean by San
03:03 - 03:09
Diego. Next one's gonna be How do I take care
03:10 - 03:10
of my body?
03:12 - 03:13
Uh, three things.
03:13 - 03:17
First one's gonna be physical training helps my mental state.
03:18 - 03:20
I think it's a lot for, uh, other people as
03:20 - 03:24
well. This year is me in my college years, back
03:24 - 03:30
in 2000 and 11, playing college tennis the next way,
03:30 - 03:32
I'll I think that I take care of my body.
03:33 - 03:36
The best is bringing breathing exercises at the onset of
03:36 - 03:38
stress, as I just discussed with my previous answer.
03:40 - 03:42
And third is food.
03:43 - 03:46
This is actually a free to that I made for
03:47 - 03:50
my fiance and I this morning, uh, mixing spam in
03:50 - 03:50
with it.
03:51 - 03:52
It actually turned out pretty good.
03:52 - 03:53
I was quite surprised.
03:53 - 03:54
It was my first attempt at it.
03:56 - 04:01
Um, mental states and, uh, physical states can't be taken
04:01 - 04:03
care of very well if you're not putting good food
04:03 - 04:07
in your body, Um, I think it takes consistent effort
04:07 - 04:10
on my part to ensure that I'm maintaining a balance
04:10 - 04:12
between these three ways that I need to take care
04:12 - 04:13
of my body.
04:13 - 04:16
Um, if I let one go unchecked for too long,
04:16 - 04:18
uh, they'll be out of balance.
04:19 - 04:21
And as we've discovered in the past, between are sympathetic
04:22 - 04:25
and parasympathetic Nervous systems can cause them to get out
04:25 - 04:25
of balance.
04:29 - 04:29
Number five.
04:30 - 04:34
In what ways have I include a rest relaxation and
04:34 - 04:34
recreation in my life.
04:35 - 04:37
As you see, I take it a point to get
04:37 - 04:42
at least 15 minutes, uh, of a nap in each
04:42 - 04:45
day. If I can't get a full nap, just sitting
04:45 - 04:48
down and closing my eyes for a short period of
04:48 - 04:49
time really helps me out.
04:50 - 04:54
Recreational. I like to hunt and hang out with my
04:54 - 04:56
dogs. Uh, this is my Weimaraner, Jenny.
04:57 - 05:01
You see, on your left and my blue heeler Rambo,
05:01 - 05:04
you see laying down and enjoying the sunlight.
05:07 - 05:12
Number six, um, who are the significant people in my
05:12 - 05:13
life? And how do I show up in my relationships?
05:15 - 05:16
Uh, this was fairly simple.
05:16 - 05:18
uh, my now fiance.
05:19 - 05:24
Truly, as of about, uh, 10 days ago, um, after
05:25 - 05:27
a devastating divorce, I thought I'd never find happiness for
05:28 - 05:29
a very, very long time.
05:29 - 05:32
Um, I felt that I couldn't trust people.
05:32 - 05:34
Uh, I couldn't allow myself to be put out there
05:34 - 05:36
and, uh, be vulnerable again.
05:37 - 05:41
But as time, excuse me, as time has a way
05:42 - 05:44
of, you know, not going how you wanted to go.
05:44 - 05:47
I quickly met her, and the rest is history.
05:49 - 05:52
Um, I show up to my relationship with communication and
05:53 - 05:57
understanding. Um, and I don't have the ability to control
05:57 - 05:58
every social situation.
05:59 - 06:00
Um, once you realize you don't have the ability to
06:01 - 06:03
control every social situation, everything else just seems to kind
06:04 - 06:05
of, like, fall into line.
06:06 - 06:12
Um, relationships take work, they you're gonna have setbacks.
06:12 - 06:16
You're going to have happiness, sorrow, arguments, and you're gonna
06:17 - 06:18
have a lot of triumphs as well.
06:18 - 06:23
Um, without the setbacks and you know the bad things
06:23 - 06:25
happening, you can never fully appreciate the good times.
06:26 - 06:28
So I think that all of that history in the
06:28 - 06:30
past has made me very successful person.
06:30 - 06:35
Now, number seven, where do I see myself in five
06:36 - 06:39
years, Uh, in the military have been in for about
06:39 - 06:42
14 years now, at 20 years as the minimum time
06:42 - 06:44
that I can approach retirement.
06:45 - 06:48
Um, a couple of, uh, a couple of pictures through
06:48 - 06:49
my years.
06:49 - 06:51
This is from my first deployment in 2000 and nine,
06:51 - 06:52
Uh, in five years.
06:53 - 06:57
Plan on retiring for excuse me, a plan on planning
06:58 - 06:59
for retirement around this time.
07:02 - 07:04
Setting down roots for a rural small town, Kind of,
07:05 - 07:07
uh, kind of place trying to get a small farm
07:08 - 07:09
somewhere with the goats and pigs.
07:11 - 07:16
Um, I have I haven't, uh, aspiration to become an
07:16 - 07:16
officer in the navy.
07:17 - 07:18
Uh, this is my last year that I'll apply.
07:19 - 07:22
Um, otherwise, I'll just stay enlisted and go out of
07:23 - 07:26
20. However, if I do get selected, uh, for my
07:26 - 07:29
officer program, I'll end up retiring at close to 25
07:29 - 07:34
years. Um, after that, I don't think my fiance is
07:34 - 07:36
gonna want me to be gone for that much longer.
07:37 - 07:38
Uh, another.
07:39 - 07:40
Another picture of me.
07:40 - 07:42
This is from my also my first deployment in, uh,
07:43 - 07:47
the United Arab Emirates in 2000 and nine.
07:48 - 07:49
Uh, you'll see here.
07:49 - 07:52
This is actually taken in 2010 in Fort Lewis, Washington.
07:53 - 07:55
Um, which is kind of funny, because I now live
07:55 - 07:57
in Washington for my current assignment.
07:58 - 08:02
Um, here, another picture from when I was in Afghanistan,
08:03 - 08:04
back in 2000 and 12.
08:05 - 08:08
And this is me and my current rank.
08:08 - 08:13
Now, um, this was taken last year in 2019, and
08:14 - 08:15
this was my last command right before.
08:15 - 08:17
I, uh I left to come up to Washington State.
08:18 - 08:20
These were everybody that used to work for me.
08:21 - 08:25
Um, retirement pay as an officer would be nice.
08:25 - 08:27
However, it's not a need.
08:28 - 08:29
Um, don't need money to be happy.
08:30 - 08:30
It's just a preference.
08:31 - 08:35
Um, but who else can say they can retire at
08:35 - 08:39
38 not have to worry about working 40 to 60
08:39 - 08:40
hours a week anymore for us their lives.
08:41 - 08:44
So I'm thankful that I've been able to, uh, serve
08:44 - 08:45
for as long as I have.
08:47 - 08:50
Last one is going to be a What does the
08:50 - 08:52
life of my dreams look like?
08:52 - 08:57
Uh, looks a little bit something like this cabin out
08:58 - 09:01
by some water, preferably with a stream running through it.
09:01 - 09:04
Uh, this is the best one that illustrated the kind
09:04 - 09:06
of cabin that were my now fiance.
09:07 - 09:10
And I are, uh, looking for, um we want to
09:10 - 09:12
be by a stream, though not really by a lake.
09:13 - 09:16
Uh, we'd like to have 30 to 60 acres with
09:16 - 09:18
some some pigs and some goats.
09:19 - 09:21
Uh, goat farming is very profitable.
09:22 - 09:24
Um, requires a lot of work, but, hey, you can
09:24 - 09:26
do anything with the with the goat.
09:27 - 09:30
Also a pig to love, to have a little potbelly
09:30 - 09:34
pig that lives in the house and runs through, um,
09:35 - 09:37
the time that I answered this question, I had not
09:37 - 09:38
yet proposed to my girlfriend.
09:39 - 09:44
And here's a little snapshot from, uh, from the night
09:44 - 09:46
I asked her posted on instagram.
09:47 - 09:47
She said yes.
09:48 - 09:49
Thankfully, why?
09:49 - 09:50
I don't know.
09:50 - 09:54
It's beyond me and a couple of pictures and just,
09:54 - 09:58
uh, you know, enjoying life and keeping it simple.
09:59 - 10:01
And try not to stress too much of the things
10:01 - 10:02
you can't control.
10:03 - 10:05
Thank you for taking the time to watch my vision
10:05 - 10:06
board presentation.
10:07 - 10:09
I hope in the future, if somebody else can do
10:10 - 10:11
the same thing, have a good name.
10:12 - 10:12
Yeah,
