00:01 - 00:04
I am judy Sgro and today I'm going to present
00:05 - 00:07
you my personal english project.
00:08 - 00:11
To start, I'm going to introduce my objectives.
00:12 - 00:14
The 1st 1 was a verbal expression.
00:16 - 00:20
I wanted to work on my accent and make correct
00:21 - 00:25
sentences without having to write them down before I talk
00:26 - 00:29
and I think to do that it's important to have
00:29 - 00:29
a good vocabulary.
00:31 - 00:35
So I wanted to learn some new words and expressions
00:36 - 00:42
expressions. I think learning learning english is very important to
00:43 - 00:46
open up to the world and discover some new culture
00:46 - 00:49
and creating links with other people.
00:49 - 00:53
But since I study science is that it's also important
00:54 - 00:59
to be included into the scientific community because a lot
00:59 - 01:02
of articles and the conferences are in english.
01:04 - 01:08
So now we are going to see the methods and
01:08 - 01:10
the resources that I use.
01:11 - 01:13
Uh to work on a vocabulary.
01:14 - 01:18
I worked on my listening comprehension and my region comprehension.
01:19 - 01:23
So to work on my listening comprehension, I used streaming
01:24 - 01:27
platform such as netflix and Disney plus.
01:28 - 01:33
Uh to start I watched movies and series, series with
01:35 - 01:39
english subtitles and then I stopped and I just watched
01:39 - 01:40
her without subtitles.
01:42 - 01:46
And then I listened to a podcast.
01:47 - 01:52
Uh since I really love this story, I listened to
01:52 - 01:55
um the history our by the BBC.
01:56 - 02:00
It's a 50 minutes but cast on the anecdote on
02:01 - 02:08
I need anecdotes uh historic and and then I obviously
02:09 - 02:15
used social media such as a youtube and instagram to
02:15 - 02:17
work on my regional comprehension.
02:18 - 02:24
Um I read some articles this semester we had to
02:25 - 02:29
work on the on the three men articles on pharmacology,
02:30 - 02:32
toxicology and cancer biology.
02:33 - 02:38
Um working on this article um Forces has to work
02:38 - 02:44
on other articles um to learn some new information etcetera
02:44 - 02:47
etcetera. So I think it's a good way to learn
02:48 - 02:53
some vocabulary and especially scientific folks everywhere.
02:54 - 03:00
And then I used the social networks also, um such
03:00 - 03:08
as facebook twitter and instagram and then to work on
03:08 - 03:09
my oral expression.
03:11 - 03:14
Um it was difficult at the beginning because I didn't
03:15 - 03:17
know how to work on this.
03:17 - 03:23
So I spoke, I spoke with valentine, which as the
03:23 - 03:27
same problem as me and we have decided to make
03:28 - 03:29
some little presentations.
03:31 - 03:34
So we did two presentation, One on the first one
03:35 - 03:38
was on friendship and the other one was on holidays.
03:40 - 03:46
I think it was a good exercise forest because it
03:46 - 03:50
allows us to a to correct each other.
03:50 - 03:55
And sometimes when we speak, we don't realize the mistakes
03:56 - 03:59
that we made and the other was able to tell
04:00 - 04:03
us. And uh and it was, it was really fun
04:03 - 04:04
too. So we had a good time.
04:06 - 04:10
And then uh I was searching for another way because
04:11 - 04:15
the presentation took a lot of time and I watched
04:15 - 04:20
a Youtube video where the boy wanted to learn a
04:20 - 04:25
new language and he explained that that record you recorded
04:26 - 04:32
itself For 13 minutes, 30 minutes every day to learn
04:32 - 04:33
how to speak.
04:34 - 04:36
So I thought it was a good idea and the
04:37 - 04:44
idea this twice a week during during 13 minutes and
04:46 - 04:50
then we are going to conclude and the first I
04:51 - 04:54
want to show you my assessment and my achievement.
04:54 - 05:00
So to evaluate myself um I didn't do anything special.
05:00 - 05:04
I just knew what was my level at the beginning
05:04 - 05:08
of the semester and now I'm now I'm feeling more
05:09 - 05:11
comfortable speaking english.
05:12 - 05:15
I think I improved my accent a little bit even
05:15 - 05:20
if it's neither a lot of work and I I
05:20 - 05:25
understand the movies and series without subtitles easily.
05:27 - 05:30
And now I I have the reflex to search a
05:30 - 05:34
new words that I didn't I didn't have other before
05:35 - 05:38
this work and things.
05:39 - 05:43
I realized that it was very easy to learn, english
05:44 - 05:49
by myself and that um that I already used english
05:49 - 05:49
every day.
05:50 - 05:55
I want to keep on working on speaking and and
05:55 - 05:55
learn vocabulary.
05:57 - 06:03
But I also think that during this experience I focused
06:04 - 06:08
too much on speaking and not enough on a on
06:08 - 06:09
my region expression.
06:10 - 06:13
So if I had to do this again, I would
06:13 - 06:15
like to to work more on on this.
06:17 - 06:18
So this is it.
06:18 - 06:20
Thank you for for listening to me.
