*** Please note my hands are backwards in the video when I am showing you the prefix and suffix, just remember prefix comes in front of or before the base, and the suffix comes after or at the end of the base** Sorry about that grade 4's!***

high grade fourth.
This is R E L.
A grammar lesson for the week.
We are gonna be a kind of going back to
some structured word inquiry and refreshing our brains.
So this week, we're gonna be focusing on prefixes basis,
and Suffolk CE is the 1st 1 we're going to
look at.
Is prefixes really prefixes when we out?
Look at prefix is what we're looking at is the
word pre what is the prefix?
Remember, when we have our base, the prefix is the
one that we add on to the front.
So it goes on to the front.
So a prefix is a word part that goes in
front of a base to change the meaning of a
word. We're gonna talk about this a little bit more,
but just to keep that in your mind, a prefix
is a word part that goes in front of a
base to change the meaning of a word.
So what does that look like?
Well, when we add a prefix in front of a
base to change the meaning of the word, we've got
our base.
So for our 1st 1 here looking at it, we
have the prefix r E and our he or re
if we're gonna stay, does the word really on its
in itself is not a word.
We need something else added to it.
So we're gonna look over here and we added, are
prefix ari to the base.
W R I t e When we have them together,
we can rewrite them as rewrite.
Okay, So to rewrite something means to do it again.
So if we just had the word right, though, it
would just be to write something down.
But when we add the prefix r e, we rewrite,
so do something again.
We can also look at the prefix u n again
U N on itself isn't a word, but when we
add it to a base such as K i N
d. And we have the prefix u n we didn't
re written us unkind.
Which unkind means not so un means not.
But if we have just the base K i n
d or the word kind, it has a completely different
meaning than when we add that prefix you end to
it to make it rewritten as unkind.
The next part we're going to look at is to
remember what a faces so remember, a base is going
to be a word that can stand alone and carry
its own meaning.
So, like the base K i n d When we
see it as a word is kind but as a
base k i n d could be a standalone word
and has its own meaning.
The word act or a C T is a base
because it couldn't stand alone and it can be a
word on its own.
But if we had a prefix such a czar e
plus a c t, we would get the word react.
But Ari, on its own couldn't be a word.
But a C T is the base word act If
we add a suffix which we're gonna talk about next
i o n we get the word Ari plus a
c t plus i o n as rewritten as reaction.
So what is us?
Suffolk ce?
We've talked about prefix, which is at the beginning of
the word.
Now we'll talk at this about the Suffolk CE that
goes at the end of the word.
So what's stuff?
Fix is a word part that goes at the end
of a base to change the meaning of a word.
So we're gonna have a look here.
A quick recap.
So a route is the basic meaning of a word
that carries meaning.
So the word S t are you see t struck
means to build but the word abase word that can
carry its own meaning would be structure.
S T R u C T U R E would
be the base.
It's the word itself means something that has being built.
The prefix is the beginning of the word that changes
the meaning of the base.
So if we were to add our e plus s
t r u C T u R e, we would
get the word restructure, which means to change or alter
the way some things built.
So not the same as the base.
By adding the prefix, we change the meaning of the
base word.
Finally, the Suffolk CE is the ending of a word
that changes the meaning of a base word.
So if we were to have our base S t
r u C t u r plus e d, we
would get structured, which means to be built in the
past. So as you can see by adding prefixes and
some fixes to bases, we change the meaning of the
base word.
That was just a quick recap.
Your turn.
Now, what you're gonna do is you're gonna go on
toe. I excel, integrate for English language arts, and I
want you to practice on section K one.
