00:00 - 00:01
Hello everybody,
00:01 - 00:03
my name is Allison Janney fun cam and I'll be
00:03 - 00:06
talking about online bullying side patrols and cyber attacks.
00:08 - 00:10
20% 1 out of every five middle school
00:10 - 00:13
and high school students report being bullied each year
00:14 - 00:15
through social media.
00:16 - 00:18
Have you ever done something or said anything that
00:18 - 00:21
could be triggering to somebody that causes them to,
00:22 - 00:23
I don't know
00:23 - 00:25
react in a certain way.
00:28 - 00:30
What exactly is cyber bullying and cyber attacks.
00:31 - 00:34
Cyberbullying can be described as when an individual
00:35 - 00:40
um, uses electronic communications or devices to attack and bully another person.
00:40 - 00:46
This can typically be um, seen through instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok
00:46 - 00:47
um,
00:48 - 00:49
facebook, you name it.
00:49 - 00:54
And given that these social media's are very um, evident in our lives
00:55 - 00:56
because this is a technological ever.
00:57 - 00:59
It makes me wonder have I ever said anything
01:00 - 01:02
or done anything that's very
01:03 - 01:06
insensitive to other people or that's very, you know,
01:06 - 01:09
can cause somebody to feel a type of way,
01:11 - 01:13
oh sorry.
01:13 - 01:15
Um, to talk about cyber attacks,
01:15 - 01:18
it can be described as an attempt by hackers to damage or destroy,
01:18 - 01:21
destroy a computer network or system.
01:22 - 01:26
This is carried out by individuals also known as um cybercriminals,
01:26 - 01:30
cybercriminals are people who do things for
01:30 - 01:33
their personal gains and their financial gains.
01:33 - 01:35
Um,
01:35 - 01:35
yeah,
01:37 - 01:42
some people who are affected by cyberbullying would be this individual,
01:42 - 01:44
this is a um,
01:45 - 01:51
a child named Ryan and Ryan, just like anybody else, anybody else went to school
01:51 - 01:56
and um made some friends. Unfortunately for Ryan. He um,
01:57 - 02:01
he had issues and his parents put him in a special needs school
02:01 - 02:07
because of the issues he made friends and he decided to share um,
02:07 - 02:09
online about
02:10 - 02:14
Personal per his personal stories upon sharing these issues.
02:14 - 02:19
He was bullied repeatedly and it caused him on October 7,
02:19 - 02:22
2003 to hang himself in his bathroom.
02:22 - 02:27
There were no criminal charges um, upon, you know, all this and
02:28 - 02:29
it's just so terrible
02:31 - 02:36
to talk about some cyber attacks. Is that um, keisha
02:37 - 02:39
keisha keisha, I don't know if I'm saying it right.
02:39 - 02:40
Um, ransom,
02:40 - 02:42
where is a us based provider of
02:42 - 02:47
remote management software and they experienced a cyber
02:47 - 02:49
supply chain attack,
02:49 - 02:53
which is where many things were leaked, their credentials,
02:53 - 02:55
their files and their business logistics.
02:55 - 02:56
A lot of things were leaked.
02:56 - 03:01
This is a problem because these are, this is a high tech company.
03:01 - 03:02
They're highly protected
03:02 - 03:06
and they were still able to go through a
03:06 - 03:08
Highly sophisticated attacked,
03:08 - 03:13
43% of small businesses do not have any cyber defenses in place.
03:13 - 03:16
This is a problem because not only does it raise the question,
03:18 - 03:23
what are we, what's making these people want to attack these people and what can we do
03:24 - 03:30
as people who are me? For me as someone who owns a small business too, you know,
03:31 - 03:32
prevent these things.
03:34 - 03:40
As you guys can see in the chart 9% of Children who are cyber bullied do face. Um,
03:41 - 03:42
um,
03:42 - 03:49
You know, abuse with substances and some drugs, 25% turned to self harm.
03:49 - 03:50
This is a problem because it's like
03:52 - 03:54
we know that these things are going on.
03:54 - 03:59
But what are we actually doing to help prevent it? And it makes me post your questions
04:00 - 04:02
that other than having parental restrictions,
04:02 - 04:07
how can adults do more to supervise your Children online or in person?
04:08 - 04:11
Do you believe that cyberbullying is inevitable in the society we
04:11 - 04:15
live in today because we are in the technological error.
04:15 - 04:17
Small businesses have been on the rise lately given
04:17 - 04:20
that we are in a high technological ever.
04:20 - 04:24
Do you believe that these small businesses should be um allowed
04:24 - 04:26
protection by the government.
04:26 - 04:29
Free protection by the government because they're not able to afford it
04:30 - 04:32
before I leave you guys off.
04:32 - 04:34
I want to say that the internet is a very risky
04:34 - 04:38
place and people can easily get harassed such as um are
04:39 - 04:41
um Ryan and however
04:42 - 04:44
being on the internet is inevitable in today's
04:44 - 04:47
society and there needs to be programs and stricter
04:47 - 04:48
rules that in place not only to protect
04:48 - 04:51
the youth but to also protect smaller establishments.
04:52 - 04:53
We need to do better
