  1. the Eastern Illinois University.
  2. Sandra and Jack Pine Honors College offers three programs.
  3. Refreshment and our upperclassmen.
  4. The first is the University Honors Laureate program.
  5. Second is the Honor Scholar program and the third Our
  6. departmental honors programs and the University Honors Laureate program students
  7. may earn credit either by a coursework or completion of
  8. reflective projects.
  9. Options for earning credit by a coursework include the completion
  10. of general education courses in honors format, the double counting
  11. of departmental honors course work completed, junior and or senior
  12. here, completion of graduate courses or transfer of honors course
  13. work from other institutions of higher education Honors versions of
  14. general education courses are taught in a discourse of manner.
  15. This means that students are very seldom lectured to are
  16. almost constantly spoken with in regard to the subject matter
  17. being taught.
  18. Because honor students approach their studies seriously and come to
  19. class prepared for the day, it is possible for their
  20. professors to focus principally on what the students have questions,
  21. comments and concerns about, and also upon getting to know
  22. their students better tailor their presentations to meet student wants
  23. and needs that are particular either to further academic pursuits
  24. or to the career aspirations of the students.
  25. Typically, 60 sections of general education courses are offered in
  26. honors format each year.
  27. This roughly breaks down to 35 in the fall and
  28. 25 in the spring, so there can be some variation
  29. to it.
  30. Currently, honors does not offer very many courses in the
  31. summer, although occasionally a senior seminar is offered very coarse
  32. from the Department of Music during the regular school year
  33. will fall in spring terms.
  34. There are winners versions of general courses in all categories.
  35. Those include language in other words, English and speech communication.
  36. Those include humanities and fine arts.
  37. Those include biological sciences.
  38. Those include physical sciences.
  39. Those include social behavioral sciences, and those include mathematics and
  40. senior seminars.
  41. Most onerous versions of general education courses are at the
  42. 3000 or 3000 level.
  43. The majority may be enrolled in by freshman.
  44. The rest are over two sophomores except for media 45
  45. 95 which is specific to secondary little education majors and
  46. the senior seminar, which must be taken only as a
  47. junior or a senior.
  48. As far as senior seminars.
  49. Currently, the university requires all students pursuing bachelor's degrees except
  50. those who are transferring to another institution before their four
  51. years are up to complete something known as the Senior
  52. Seminar. Locally, that is a course taken outside of the
  53. major that has a unique topical focus and that goes
  54. to exceptional death and also provides optimal practice for all
  55. of the critical thinking and communication skills developed across the
  56. students for years in the university Honors Laureate students, we're
  57. also pursuing departmental honors.
  58. See Junior and Senior have the option to double count
  59. all 12 hours of departmental honors credit back to the
  60. University Honors Laureate program.
  61. This means that they get credit for those hours in
  62. both University honors laureate and departmental honors because departmental honors
  63. students must complete a thesis capstone to that program.
  64. University Honors Laureate students who are in departmental honors do
  65. not need to take the Honors Senior seminar as the
  66. capstone for university honors laureate.
  67. Instead, they may substitute their thesis in order for university
  68. honors laureate students to count any departmental honors credit toward
  69. their University Honors Laureate program, they must request permission to
  70. do so in advance.
  71. This may be achieved by emailing the coordinator of honor
  72. student development.
  73. Our meeting with her in completing uniforms.
  74. Students in the University Honors Laureate program may elect to
  75. account for honors credit graduate coursework completed as a senior,
  76. this course work may be taken in a student's major
  77. or minor academic area, so not all disciplines allow seniors
  78. to take graduate coursework.
  79. To find out if your major or minor will permit
  80. you to take a graduate course, you will want to
  81. speak with your academic advisor in that discipline.
  82. If it is permitted, do not expect that all graduate
  83. level courses offered in Eastern will be open to your
  84. registration. Most major and minor areas only allow students to
  85. take a select number of graduate courses without being admitted
  86. to a graduate program to account for honors, credit and
  87. graduate course must either be numbered in the 5000 level
  88. or must have a Z suffix added to the end
  89. of the course number.
  90. An honor student wishes to account for US credit Graduate
  91. coursework may elect to do so for 1 to 6
  92. hours. Worth, of course, is a student may not take
  93. more than six hours of graduate coursework and have those
  94. hours count for their owners hours requirement.
  95. A student in the University Honors Laureate program who previously
  96. participated in an honors program at another university, college or
  97. junior or community college may request that up to 12
  98. hours of honors course were completed at that other institutions
  99. being reviewed for possible counting toward the university Honors Laureate
  100. program honors requirements for each course that student completed at
  101. the other institution for which Eastern Illinois University as an
  102. honors equivalent course credit will be granted if a student
  103. graduated from the honors program at that other institution, regardless
  104. of whether or not the I U offers an an
  105. honors equivalent course credit will be allowed toward the hours
  106. requirement for the university Honors laureate program.
  107. Students in the University Honors Laureate program have the option
  108. to earn from 1 to 6 hours of honors credit
  109. by a successful completion of an honors reflective project associated
  110. with a core activity designed to afford them additional personal,
  111. academic or pre professional development, such as they could not
  112. have otherwise achieved on campus at Eastern Illinois University, core
  113. activities around which reflective projects may be designed are studies
  114. abroad, research experiences for undergraduates or similar activities undertaken at
  115. a Ph.
  116. D. Granting institution of higher education, government facility or private
  117. laboratory internships undertaken in any form of sight appropriate to
  118. the students.
  119. Field and distance service experiences undertaken on behalf UH, a
  120. statewide regional, national or international organization nearer and dearer to
  121. the students.
  122. Heart reflective projects are formally proposed.
  123. The coordinator of Honor student development will assist any interested
  124. student in composing his her there reflective project proposal.
  125. Once the coordinator Minor student development has approved the proposal
  126. as complete, accurate and effectively communicated, the proposal will go
  127. to the dean of the Sandler and Jack Pine Honors
  128. College for final sign off.
  129. Once that has been achieved, the student is welcome to
  130. not only begin their core activity around which the project
  131. is designed, but also at the appropriate juncture began drafting
  132. the project itself.
  133. When it comes time to grab crop the project, the
  134. coordinator of honor student Development will again work with the
  135. student as a combination of mentor, facilitator and evaluator.
  136. The coordinator will provide feedback on all aspects of the
  137. students projects as are relevant to the students, continued growth
  138. and will guide the student through revision once the student
  139. has either answered every possible question the coordinator can conceive
  140. of to make the most of the learning experience or
  141. the student has hit his her there developmental brick wall
  142. in So far as the project is concerned, the coordinator
  143. will call the project completed and however many hours of
  144. credit via honors waiver the student proposed will be afforded
  145. to the student.
