00:01 - 00:02
Hey everyone.
00:02 - 00:05
So today we're gonna be taking the next step from
00:05 - 00:07
the planning project into the grant project.
00:07 - 00:12
Now, my complaining project was kind of um it was
00:12 - 00:16
laying out a project to provide these billboards, smart TVs
00:16 - 00:18
for the entire social studies department.
00:18 - 00:21
Um however, the grant that I found is not enough
00:21 - 00:24
money to do the whole department, so for this grand
00:24 - 00:28
project, I'm going to request for the funds to get
00:28 - 00:30
one for just my classroom, so that's really the only
00:31 - 00:33
difference here um and of course it's going to change
00:33 - 00:34
a couple of things that were taking place in the
00:34 - 00:37
planning project um to adapt it from a whole group
00:37 - 00:40
to just an individual, but we'll cover all of that
00:40 - 00:40
in here.
00:43 - 00:46
So in this, the grant project that I'm or the
00:46 - 00:47
grant that I'm going to be applying for is the
00:47 - 00:49
tanker kids grant program.
00:49 - 00:54
It's through the Tanger outlets and you basically apply through
00:54 - 00:57
your nearest location, which for me is right down the
00:57 - 01:00
road. Um this grant has been taking place since 1996
01:01 - 01:04
and it's basically designed to satisfy the specific funding needs,
01:05 - 01:07
um of really anything within a school.
01:07 - 01:12
It could go from something that's within the school, um
01:13 - 01:14
like schoolwide programs, classrooms.
01:15 - 01:18
Um It could go towards like the faculty, it could
01:18 - 01:19
go towards students specifically.
01:20 - 01:23
It could even go towards academic clubs or athletic teams,
01:24 - 01:25
which is really, really cool.
01:26 - 01:28
So this, this grant can kind of be taken and
01:28 - 01:29
used in any direction.
01:30 - 01:31
Um so that's really exciting.
01:33 - 01:35
The deadline for it is going to be June 30
01:36 - 01:39
of 2021 and they are awarding up to $2,500.
01:41 - 01:43
So that's what we're going to be looking at for
01:44 - 01:49
today. The requirements for the grant, basically when you open
01:49 - 01:52
up the application, it's going to be the, it's like
01:52 - 01:54
almost looks like a Google form, but it's through their
01:54 - 01:57
website and it just has these prompts that are on
01:57 - 01:58
the screen right here.
01:58 - 02:00
So they want to see a description of the project
02:00 - 02:01
on their website.
02:01 - 02:03
They say they want it to be 200 words or
02:04 - 02:06
less. Um and then they actually want to see what
02:07 - 02:09
school or personal growth goals will be met by using
02:09 - 02:10
these funds.
02:10 - 02:13
Um What is your plan for executing this project?
02:13 - 02:16
And what is the breakdown of how funds will be
02:16 - 02:18
used? So since we have a device that will be
02:18 - 02:24
pretty simple as far as the description um a lot
02:24 - 02:26
of it is very similar to the planning project.
02:27 - 02:29
It is to update the smart board in my classroom
02:30 - 02:32
into a Viewsonic view board um which is a highly
02:33 - 02:39
interactive and high quality um screen that um students can
02:39 - 02:42
see visuals and multimedia and things like that.
02:42 - 02:45
Um So it's really important for students do that, especially
02:45 - 02:47
in my class because I am, I have a social
02:47 - 02:50
studies class and we do a lot with image analysis
02:51 - 02:54
and videos and maps and things like that.
02:55 - 02:58
So it's really important to have something that can do
02:58 - 02:58
all of that.
02:58 - 03:01
Um Roll down maps are a thing of the past,
03:01 - 03:03
so we don't really have those things, we just pull
03:03 - 03:06
it up on our projector and like we manipulate google
03:06 - 03:09
earth and what not, but my students have a really
03:09 - 03:12
hard time seeing the projector for a couple of reasons.
03:12 - 03:15
One because the bulbs get really dim and two because
03:16 - 03:18
there's so much natural light coming into my room that
03:19 - 03:20
it dims the board.
03:20 - 03:22
And so it's it's not very high quality.
03:23 - 03:25
Um There are some teachers in our school that already
03:25 - 03:27
have these view boards and I went in there and
03:27 - 03:30
tested and well to see what the brightness looked like
03:31 - 03:31
with the windows open.
03:32 - 03:36
Um and you could see it from across the entire
03:36 - 03:39
room. So it's very um it would be great for
03:39 - 03:41
my kids to be able to have that into the
03:41 - 03:41
N. C.
03:42 - 03:43
R. Images and things like that.
03:44 - 03:47
Some of the expected outcomes are listed below and that
03:47 - 03:49
is in a short term mid term and long term.
03:50 - 03:52
So the short term items or things that are going
03:52 - 03:52
to happen immediately.
03:53 - 03:54
Midterm is over time.
03:55 - 03:56
What what am I going to see in my classroom
03:56 - 03:58
and in the long term is really what our students
03:59 - 04:01
going to take with them later on that this device
04:02 - 04:02
is going to give them.
04:03 - 04:05
So the short term is really just updating the technology
04:06 - 04:08
and the tools used in the classroom and providing those
04:09 - 04:09
better visuals.
04:09 - 04:11
That's immediate, that's going to happen the day I get
04:11 - 04:16
it. Um, uh, the midterm goals will be um, like
04:17 - 04:21
active learning kids can participate more, they can they can
04:21 - 04:24
collaborate using the board and um working with each other
04:24 - 04:26
and they're going to have a growth in technology literacy
04:27 - 04:29
just anytime you give students in new technology and they
04:29 - 04:32
have to grow by learning, or they have to, they
04:32 - 04:35
have to grow by using the technology, it's gonna make
04:35 - 04:39
them um more aware of other technologies and honestly less
04:40 - 04:41
afraid of using them.
04:42 - 04:44
And then finally, in the long term we have deeper
04:44 - 04:46
learning, higher critical thinking skills.
04:47 - 04:50
Um and the teachers will become more proficient, or I
04:50 - 04:54
will become more proficient in organizing the tool, um or
04:54 - 04:57
using the tool in 21st century classrooms.
05:00 - 05:03
So we're going to look at two aligned goals here.
05:03 - 05:05
For the most part, this is gonna line to a
05:05 - 05:08
north Carolina, the north Carolina digital learning plan, which is,
05:09 - 05:12
you know, and that's the section with technology infrastructure and
05:12 - 05:13
devices. That's pretty straightforward.
05:14 - 05:18
And then also, the district goal is to make, um,
05:18 - 05:20
we'll talk a county school is the best place to
05:20 - 05:21
learn and work in north Carolina.
05:22 - 05:26
Um So having updated technology um and and higher in
05:26 - 05:28
technology is going to help us reach that goal.
05:29 - 05:35
Yes, the plan of action is pretty simple just because
05:35 - 05:36
this is just purchasing a device.
05:37 - 05:39
However, a couple more things will take place when purchasing
05:40 - 05:41
the device before getting it.
05:42 - 05:44
Um I will complete research on the device and seek
05:45 - 05:48
out professional development and corporate and incorporating the technology and
05:49 - 05:50
finding strategies to using it.
05:51 - 05:53
I I'm going to do this by surveying teachers in
05:53 - 05:57
my school who currently have the view boards, watching videos
05:57 - 05:59
online of other teachers that use it.
05:59 - 06:03
Um and and things like that, and also seeing at
06:03 - 06:06
any technology pds they have something on interactive boards.
06:07 - 06:09
The next thing I would like to do is to
06:09 - 06:12
schedule a one on one sandbox session with an instructional
06:13 - 06:15
coach at my school where I can one on one,
06:16 - 06:19
work with them on how to kind of play with
06:19 - 06:22
the device and what all it offers and how I
06:22 - 06:22
can make sure.
06:22 - 06:25
I'm always incorporating the most out of that device into
06:26 - 06:26
my classroom.
06:27 - 06:30
Um And then over time while using it, I'm going
06:30 - 06:34
to consistently evaluate the effectiveness of the technology and I'm
06:34 - 06:36
going to continue learning how to implement it.
06:36 - 06:38
So even if we're talking three years down the road,
06:38 - 06:41
I'm going to make sure I stay abreast of all
06:41 - 06:44
of the technologies um that that that device can do
06:44 - 06:47
make sure it's being updated um And including it and
06:47 - 06:48
always I possibly can.
06:52 - 06:54
Uh this last part right here is very straightforward and
06:54 - 06:57
simple. The breakdown of funds the grant is for $2500.
06:58 - 06:59
And as you can see the price of these boards
07:00 - 07:00
is $2,400.
07:02 - 07:04
So we're really hitting it right on the mark.
07:05 - 07:07
The whole grant will just go towards purchasing the view
07:08 - 07:10
board. Um And so there's not gonna be any funds
07:11 - 07:13
that are going to have to sustain the technology or
07:13 - 07:14
anything like that.
07:14 - 07:18
Um So the funds will just be used to purchase
07:18 - 07:19
it immediately.
07:20 - 07:22
Um And then that kind of goes the same with
07:22 - 07:25
the timeline due to it just being a single purchase.
07:26 - 07:28
Um It's gonna be really narrow and the day that
07:28 - 07:28
the T.
07:28 - 07:31
V. Arrives and is set up, the device is going
07:31 - 07:33
to be used immediately so that this isn't going to
07:33 - 07:35
take a long period of time to implement.
07:38 - 07:40
So really that is all of the grant.
07:40 - 07:44
Um I'm hoping to break this down and actually put
07:44 - 07:45
it in a written format.
07:45 - 07:47
You see most of it's already here.
07:47 - 07:51
Um I don't think they're looking for quite as much
07:51 - 07:54
as I have but I I want to clean it
07:54 - 07:56
up a little bit more and put it in more
07:56 - 07:57
of like a formal written sense.
07:58 - 08:01
Um And I'm going to submit that here soon to
08:01 - 08:02
see if we can get it.
08:02 - 08:03
So crossing my fingers.
08:04 - 08:04
Thank you.
