00:02 - 00:04
Hello. Um My name is Rishi L
00:04 - 00:07
and um here's a little picture of me when I was a little guy. I,
00:07 - 00:12
I was born in Sacramento, California to a Punjabi family.
00:12 - 00:13
Um
00:14 - 00:18
This picture right here is of us visiting
00:18 - 00:21
the Great America Amusement Park in San Jose back then.
00:21 - 00:24
I think it was in the eighties. I, I forget what it's called now.
00:25 - 00:28
Um My family loved to travel and so we were always
00:28 - 00:31
going different places within driving distance at least once a month.
00:31 - 00:36
Um which in instilled a, an individual passion for myself to travel and
00:37 - 00:38
throughout my
00:39 - 00:43
existence, I've been to six of the seven continents. I plan on visiting Antarctica
00:44 - 00:45
sometime in the future.
00:45 - 00:47
I'm probably a little bit more comfortable than
00:47 - 00:49
I probably would have done in my twenties.
00:49 - 00:50
Um
00:50 - 00:53
I've also been practicing yoga for the past 15 years.
00:53 - 00:55
I would still say that I'm a novice.
00:56 - 01:01
Um There's so much more room for improvement in my own individual practice.
01:02 - 01:05
Um I think it's intertwined with my own existence
01:05 - 01:08
and I have this interesting relationship with yoga.
01:08 - 01:10
And so I think even
01:10 - 01:13
in, in myself, when I am a learner,
01:13 - 01:18
I do regress in what I can do because I kind of have to take a step back and just
01:19 - 01:21
absorb and retain the information
01:21 - 01:25
and then really understand it. And I think that's what I'm doing even just in my
01:25 - 01:28
existence of being a student at law school,
01:28 - 01:30
um just being a student at this stage in my,
01:30 - 01:34
in my life and having to balance all of the
01:34 - 01:36
things that I have going on is really interesting.
01:36 - 01:36
And,
01:37 - 01:39
and so yoga helps me remember
01:39 - 01:44
how to, to get back to where I used to be in what I can and can accomplish.
01:45 - 01:46
And um
01:46 - 01:50
and so, yeah, and then in 2013, I, I met this guy,
01:50 - 01:53
you may recognize him from our roster because it is Dante.
01:54 - 01:58
We decided to venture in this law school journey together and it's been amazing.
01:58 - 01:59
Um
01:59 - 02:02
we met um
02:03 - 02:04
and
02:04 - 02:06
on Saint Patrick's Day actually. And then
02:07 - 02:10
um here's another picture of us, I think we, we also like to see Beyonce concerts.
02:10 - 02:11
But the whole other thing,
02:12 - 02:15
um we moved to Santa Cruz in 2014
02:15 - 02:17
where I became an assistant principal
02:18 - 02:20
um at Santa Cruz High School.
02:20 - 02:23
Um I've been in education, I've been a special education teacher.
02:23 - 02:24
Um
02:24 - 02:28
I now am the safety and wellness coordinator and I'm moving to
02:28 - 02:31
a new position with the county office of Ed as the safety
02:31 - 02:34
um the school safety and risk prevention director.
02:34 - 02:36
And so, uh yeah,
02:36 - 02:39
education has been a big part of my existence here in
02:39 - 02:43
Santa Cruz and pretty widely known by a lot of the,
02:43 - 02:45
you know, the graduating seniors in the Santa Cruz high school area.
02:46 - 02:47
Um
02:47 - 02:49
Like I said, uh I
02:49 - 02:53
don't know if I did say that, but yeah, Dante and I got married in 2016,
02:53 - 02:53
we jumped the room.
02:54 - 02:55
Um and
02:56 - 02:59
basically, we had some struggles with our families,
02:59 - 03:01
but we're all together now and it's wonderful.
03:01 - 03:05
Um Dante's family was always been amazing and they've always been wonderful.
03:05 - 03:07
And so here's a picture of us and,
03:07 - 03:08
and, you know,
03:08 - 03:10
today we're doing all the stuff we can because we have
03:10 - 03:13
these wonderful nieces and nephews that we love and adore.
03:13 - 03:17
And so these kids are just the highlights of our lives and we do
03:18 - 03:21
all of this work for them basically. And so
03:21 - 03:23
it's really nice to get to see them on a yearly
03:23 - 03:26
basis because they live in the opposite side of the country.
03:26 - 03:31
And so um here's a picture of us just coming back from Miami. We love to eat
03:32 - 03:35
good food and hang out in nice environments.
03:35 - 03:40
And so it was, it's just part of the things that we like to do and to, to, to recharge.
03:41 - 03:42
And so uh
03:42 - 03:44
the last question was,
03:44 - 03:50
what do I find um my, as my favorite superhero and it's super, it's Superman.
03:50 - 03:53
And so I think he's the first person that I saw
03:54 - 03:55
in my time.
03:55 - 03:57
Um That really, I really connected with.
03:57 - 04:01
Um I think I was fascinated that he was extraterrestrial but he looked human.
04:02 - 04:03
Um
04:03 - 04:07
He, you know, his alter ego when he, you know, took off his glasses.
04:07 - 04:11
I thought that was really interesting how someone can change, you know,
04:11 - 04:14
just by putting on a pair of glasses.
04:14 - 04:15
Um
04:16 - 04:19
And, you know, his incredible feats of strength and his desire to help and heal.
04:19 - 04:21
And I think it's wonderful. And so
04:21 - 04:27
that is who I love as a superhero and that is me in a nutshell. RCI
04:27 - 04:28
Long.
04:28 - 04:31
Nice to meet you and look forward to being in this class. Thank you.
