  1. This is a critique for Daniel Cody and his um model for unpacking standards.
  2. Within professional development.
  3. We know that the classroom is the best place for job embedded practice,
  4. which typically involves the application of many techniques.
  5. Additionally, coaching is frequently incorporated into job embedded practices.
  6. As a direct consequence,
  7. many researchers find that subject matter experts receive training
  8. in efficient professional development techniques
  9. and interpersonal communication skills,
  10. both of which facilitate application by way of skill modeling,
  11. opportunities for learners to practice and reflection
  12. in order to ensure that fidelity is found throughout the content that is presented
  13. with the professional development of teachers.
  14. A system of evaluation and monitoring should be set in place.
  15. We will examine three areas that were found
  16. as components of your professional development model that
  17. was designed to maximize teacher capacity in the
  18. realm of standard driven learning instructional strategies,
  19. formative assessments, data analysis and interventions.
  20. In addition recommendations will be provided to ensure
  21. that understanding and competency is president standard driven learning
  22. lesson planning an ongoing professional development throughout the school year.
  23. Within session one I find that the identification and the introduction of
  24. standards and a careful review of unpacking a new set of standards.
  25. You illustrated the scope and sequence within the standards by pairing staff by
  26. grade levels to ensure that there were no gaps within the curriculum frameworks.
  27. One recommendation for school leaders would be
  28. to model this practice using a role playing
  29. session of the proper use of applying verbs found within the standard of the nouns
  30. to assist in unpacking the standards and making sure
  31. that they are both vertical and horizontal
  32. to ensure that this is continuous throughout the school year.
  33. Non negotiables could be put put in place that addressed
  34. for the teachers to have this as a visual within the classroom. Each day.
  35. In session two,
  36. we identified a third review of prior knowledge learned by uh
  37. requiring teachers an opportunity to reflect on what was previously discussed.
  38. Furthermore, you allowed the session
  39. uh that involved teachers to ask or provide written statements of
  40. what new resources may be beneficial in mastering the new standards.
  41. Once teachers identified either having a need or not,
  42. they were then able to move forward
  43. in developing interactive plans and activities.
  44. Uh You also afforded teachers the opportunity to complete a needs assessment
  45. to determine further areas of support needed to master the set of standards
  46. Within this session,
  47. a recommendation for the use of new materials and or manipulative could
  48. have been presented to engage the teachers to think outside the box,
  49. create think tanks, To help promote enrichment within the lesson design.
  50. Within session three, the student
  51. examine the need to bring outside vendors and or experts in
  52. to assist in the development of new standards and lesson designed.
  53. The student allowed an opportunity for teachers to reflect,
  54. share ideas and ask, posing questions
  55. that may have risen due to the nature of the new standards.
  56. In addition,
  57. the professional development was designed to bring
  58. outside resources in for a support system.
  59. However, a recommendation to,
  60. to this portion of the professional development consists of an
  61. evaluation system of how helpful outside experts really are.
  62. Our worry in aiding to teachers, supports
  63. and development of the new standards.
  64. Often times the use of consultants lack and evaluation
  65. model of how effective the consultants actually work.
  66. This is important to foster continuous improvement
  67. and to support proper allocation of funding.
  68. Finally,
  69. we take a look at the ongoing professional development piece
  70. and I really enjoyed the excerpt that you had,
  71. you had placed in there,
  72. you gave some evidence based research on
  73. the need and requirement for professional development.
  74. Let's take a look at the three
  75. professional development sessions that you mentioned.
  76. The area of critique addresses the need to
  77. provide an example of what it looks like for
  78. teachers to identify what areas of instruction was
  79. found to be productive and what was not.
  80. This can be modeled by supplying teachers with resources such as guidance to
  81. esa and to what works clearinghouse these online platforms or are provided for
  82. teachers to identify achievement areas where
  83. students are struggling in and offer best
  84. practices of evidence based instructional routines
  85. that have been proven backed by data
  86. to show marginal gains and proficiency within those areas.
  87. In closing,
  88. I think you did an overall outstanding job on your Professional development model.
  89. Job embedment embedded professional development requires for
  90. training and coaching and supports to happen
  91. in real time during the instructional day
  92. and within your professional development model,
  93. we found this to be present.
  94. So we identified um the way to properly maximize teacher
  95. capacity in the realm of standard driven learning instructional strategies,
  96. formative assessments and interventions.
  97. In addition, we provided recommendations, recommendations
  98. to ensure the comprehension and proficiency of the new learning goals
  99. could be found throughout the entirety of the school year, not just a one time,
  100. sit and get meeting,
  101. um that most oftentimes professional development in
  102. our public schools are great job.
