Hello,
00:03 - 00:05
my name is Maya Abdi and I'm taking to come
00:05 - 00:09
to 20 social media course at the university of Washington.
00:09 - 00:10
Tacoma.
00:10 - 00:13
Welcome to my ted talk and for this ted talk I'll be
00:13 - 00:17
talking about the global education crisis that we are currently experiencing.
00:20 - 00:25
For starters all across the world we are seeing a massive decline in learning basic
00:25 - 00:31
learning skills at a very early age in Children and an increase with the literacy for
00:31 - 00:36
many adults living in a country with a high income while being a low income member
00:37 - 00:40
and being from an immigrant family leads to
00:40 - 00:42
Children suffering early on with their education.
00:43 - 00:45
The consequences for the Children that come from these
00:45 - 00:49
families are the lack of learning skills that they don't
00:49 - 00:53
gain and also not having the same abilities as high
00:53 - 00:56
income Children do when it comes to their education.
00:57 - 00:57
Yeah.
00:58 - 01:02
Um while money isn't being put while money is being put towards
01:02 - 01:05
the education system for the Children to succeed in the future,
01:05 - 01:07
the way it's being handled could be wrong.
01:07 - 01:11
The annual cost for this is $129 billion.
01:11 - 01:15
Yet the Children grow up not understanding basic education and learning skills.
01:15 - 01:17
So how can we change this?
01:17 - 01:22
Um Well since money isn't the main issue as of now we can look at the,
01:22 - 01:26
we can look at all the many, all the things that are causing this.
01:26 - 01:28
Uh We can first make changes on how we teach
01:28 - 01:32
the students and most importantly how we train our teachers,
01:33 - 01:36
seeing as how not every student learns and studies the same.
01:36 - 01:39
We can figure out multiple ways to proceed to do
01:39 - 01:42
this uh where one student is a visual learner,
01:42 - 01:44
another can be an auditory learner.
01:44 - 01:46
So with small changes like this,
01:48 - 01:50
um, in an article that I read for this class,
01:50 - 01:54
um it mentioned that we should train teachers to support the weakest learners
01:54 - 01:58
at a very early age to catch where they are struggling the most.
01:58 - 02:03
So during later years, um, of their education, this can lead to um,
02:03 - 02:06
them having a better understanding and learning skills.
02:07 - 02:10
The school board and education system can have a great
02:10 - 02:15
contribution and digging further into finding ways to make these changes
02:15 - 02:16
happen.
02:16 - 02:16
Uh,
02:16 - 02:19
looking for schools that are achieving their
02:19 - 02:21
goals and having an increase in their early
02:21 - 02:24
learning education and using them as an example
02:24 - 02:27
while comparing to see the differences from schools
02:27 - 02:30
that are declining in these areas is a great start.
02:31 - 02:36
Um, if we know and see what we are doing wrong or where the decline is coming from,
02:36 - 02:37
we can fix this.
02:37 - 02:38
Um,
02:38 - 02:42
so this can be taken globally to see the positives
02:42 - 02:46
and negatives um from other school districts and they can
02:47 - 02:48
on how they're handling this.
02:48 - 02:52
Uh, we see a pattern that shows positive impacts for students.
02:52 - 02:56
We can use it as an example to better our education system.
02:56 - 03:00
We can use social media to show and promote what we are,
03:00 - 03:02
what is currently happening with the early learning
03:02 - 03:05
education for young Children by posting ads.
03:05 - 03:10
Um, um, posting on websites and providing the research
03:10 - 03:14
of what school districts and boards are doing and, um,
03:14 - 03:16
to make the recommended changes,
03:16 - 03:18
which would be showing the progress that is being made.
03:19 - 03:21
The parents are following along with the progress.
03:21 - 03:23
They can pass the information along through
03:23 - 03:26
social media to promote towards their parents,
03:26 - 03:30
to other parents, teachers, school boards and, um, districts.
03:30 - 03:31
So we can officially see,
03:32 - 03:36
um, great changes towards the global education prices.
03:36 - 03:39
That is all. And thank you for watching.
