  1. Good morning, dear students.
  2. How are you today?
  3. Welcome back to part three of saints and you can
  4. also find it in the you see pages as saints
  5. Part three and video number three s o.
  6. In the first video, we discussed what is the meaning
  7. of ST and canonization.
  8. And then, in the second video we discussed and examples
  9. of saints on Earth such as Mother Teresa and in
  10. today's video, we're going to talk about Dom Helder Camara.
  11. Who was he?
  12. And what was his accomplishments to humanity?
  13. So let's proceed together.
  14. Mhm now he was born in 1909 in Fortaleza, Brazil.
  15. He died in 1999.
  16. Okay, in Brazil as well.
  17. So the dome is a priest.
  18. Okay? He was ordained as a priest in 1931.
  19. And in 1948 he was an educator.
  20. But his appointment as bishop and archbishop of the Rio
  21. de Janeiro led to his developing.
  22. Ah, high profile.
  23. Okay. And he denounced the city's social and racial divisions
  24. With the help of President Joe Cellino and Joey Coal
  25. art, he began programs to help the poor and making
  26. many powerful enemies.
  27. Not at least not least of which was the U.
  28. S. Government.
  29. Socially progressive Latin America did not fit with the U.
  30. S. Policy in the wake of the Cuban Revolution.
  31. Now, on March 31 1964 President Goulart was overthrown in
  32. a military group supported by the U.
  33. S. So even though he was trying to help everybody,
  34. he was not really liked by the US government at
  35. that time.
  36. Now, Dome ordained priest in 1931 as we said, and
  37. he became bishop and archbishop, and that gave him a
  38. really high profile.
  39. Now there's a very, very important quote that he once
  40. said. When I give food to the poor, they call
  41. me a saint on by the way, this is in
  42. our book as well.
  43. When I asked why the poor have no food, they
  44. call me a communist.
  45. So, basically, as long as he's helping, he's not questioned.
  46. But when he does ask and he does interfere in
  47. politics and say, Why do these four people do not
  48. have food?
  49. Then he's then mentioned and stated as a communist, and
  50. he says, also a nation that you have not known
  51. shall eat up the fruit of your ground and all
  52. of your labors, and you shall be only oppressed and
  53. crushed continually.
  54. Okay? And And he's right, basically, because the scriptures supported
  55. as well, which that if you're not strong enough, someone
  56. will come and eat the fruit of your ground and
  57. take your labor.
  58. This is as we can see here, Helder Camara.
  59. Okay, now that's one of his important quotes.
  60. Okay, So basically, the most important thing is that we
  61. should know that he was a bishop on an archbishop.
  62. Okay? And then later on, became an educator and started
  63. writing books and he really cared.
  64. And so there's something similar between him and Mother Teresa
  65. that they both are saints on earth.
  66. They both cared for the poor people and, you know,
  67. bettering the life of off these unfortunate in their countries.
  68. And this is one of his most important quotes, as
  69. we said, okay.
  70. And by the way, he was not always liked by,
  71. as we said by the US government and they had
  72. problems at that time.
  73. So this was basically a fast overview of the life
  74. of Helder Camara.
  75. And if you need more information, you can also find
  76. that in the book and the You See pages.
  77. Alright. Make sure to go through the tutorials that we
  78. have and the information.
  79. So if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask
  80. and have a lovely day.
  81. Thanks for listening.
