00:01 - 00:03
Hello. My name is Ethan Wilson, and this is my
00:03 - 00:04
freshman studies final.
00:05 - 00:07
I am a freshman here at Virginia State University.
00:08 - 00:09
This is my first semester here.
00:10 - 00:13
I'm here on basketball scholarship, full scholarship under coach blowing
00:13 - 00:15
Coach Drew very blessed for that opportunity.
00:16 - 00:20
And my major is mathematics along with my minor in
00:20 - 00:21
middle school education.
00:22 - 00:24
So I've learned a lot in this class, and I
00:24 - 00:27
really look forward to giving this presentation on everything I've
00:27 - 00:30
learned and just really thank you guys for everything you've
00:30 - 00:33
done and helping out with over these past few weeks.
00:36 - 00:38
Okay, about the V s U traditions here.
00:39 - 00:43
I never really knew about a B s you traditions.
00:44 - 00:45
When I decided I was going to come to this
00:45 - 00:47
school, I mean, obviously, I knew it was the HBCU,
00:48 - 00:51
and obviously everybody, every HBCU has their own traditions that
00:51 - 00:52
they do.
00:52 - 00:54
And I mean, it was just hard for me when
00:55 - 00:57
I committed to a school, because I was.
00:58 - 01:00
When Kobe started beginning up and I did, my options
01:01 - 01:01
were limited.
01:01 - 01:04
I had a scholarship offers and Virginia State was at
01:04 - 01:07
the top of my list, and it was hard for
01:07 - 01:08
me toe make that decision.
01:09 - 01:10
I didn't know much about the school.
01:11 - 01:11
All I really knew.
01:11 - 01:13
It was just what I looked at in the videos
01:13 - 01:14
and what I've heard from other people.
01:15 - 01:18
But taking this class has been able to really help
01:19 - 01:23
me and just give me a better understanding of the
01:23 - 01:26
traditions and just the history here at B s.
01:26 - 01:29
You and it's been really helpful honestly.
01:29 - 01:33
And fresh mint studies, learning about the history, talking toe,
01:33 - 01:35
my teachers about it.
01:35 - 01:38
It's just it's been really helpful because I didn't really
01:38 - 01:39
know that much coming into it.
01:40 - 01:42
I really look forward to getting on campus, though, and
01:42 - 01:45
experiencing a lot of these things that we've talked about
01:45 - 01:49
over the year, Um, over the semester and I really
01:49 - 01:53
look forward to and the ace presentations?
01:54 - 01:56
The ace presentations were actually very helpful at first.
01:57 - 01:59
If I'm being completely honest, I didn't even know about
01:59 - 02:01
them. It was kind of last minute.
02:01 - 02:03
My friends were like eating like you got to get
02:03 - 02:06
you a class and I was like, Okay, but I'm
02:06 - 02:11
actually glad that I did attend these presentations because they
02:11 - 02:14
were actually very helpful just learning about how to do
02:14 - 02:18
different things and such as like registering for classes.
02:19 - 02:22
Um, how Toe Put together a plan for your future.
02:23 - 02:25
How toe navigate yourself around campus.
02:25 - 02:25
How toe?
02:26 - 02:29
Just do a bunch of things that it would struggle.
02:30 - 02:31
It would be a struggle for me to learn on
02:31 - 02:31
my own.
02:32 - 02:35
And I'm really thankful for a Dr Hobson for helping
02:35 - 02:35
me out with that.
02:36 - 02:38
Um, yeah, These age presentations were very helpful.
02:39 - 02:42
They actually helped me prepare for my finals because I've
02:42 - 02:45
been stressing out a lot about them lately and help
02:45 - 02:46
me gave me tips.
02:47 - 02:47
Told me to sleep.
02:48 - 02:48
Right. Eat right.
02:49 - 02:49
Take it.
02:50 - 02:52
Take it one day at a time, relax, and everything
02:52 - 02:53
will be good.
02:53 - 02:57
So I'm very thankful for the presentations that the teachers
02:57 - 03:00
were able to put and the professors were able to
03:00 - 03:03
put together a couple of weeks ago.
03:03 - 03:07
We had we had a discussion board about our why
03:07 - 03:08
and this one.
03:09 - 03:11
This one was like it meant a lot to me
03:11 - 03:12
because I really got to express.
03:13 - 03:14
I feel like I got to express who I really
03:14 - 03:17
am in why I do what I do every day.
03:18 - 03:19
A za basketball player.
03:20 - 03:20
You know, my wife.
03:21 - 03:24
My wife is really to just push myself and to
03:24 - 03:25
be the best version of myself that I could be
03:25 - 03:26
every day.
03:27 - 03:29
Um, you know, I always have toe find that motivation
03:30 - 03:31
in the back of my mind to keep me going,
03:32 - 03:35
and it's always there just that, wanting to be better
03:36 - 03:38
than everybody else and what I do every day and
03:39 - 03:41
getting 1% better every day as I go along.
03:41 - 03:42
And that doesn't just go for basketball.
03:43 - 03:45
That goes for life is well, and I also talked
03:45 - 03:48
about my otherwise, which is my grandmother passing.
03:49 - 03:52
She was like my best friend and we went through
03:52 - 03:54
a lot together, and we had a lot of great
03:54 - 03:56
conversations in her lifetime here.
03:56 - 03:59
And she's a She's a reason why I pushed myself
03:59 - 04:01
every day because I feel like I owe it to
04:01 - 04:06
her and she she is the reason why I am
04:06 - 04:06
the person I am today.
04:07 - 04:09
She's hoping through so much and I have her tattooed
04:10 - 04:10
on my arm.
04:11 - 04:14
Just a daily reminder why I push myself to be
04:14 - 04:17
the best version of myself every day, and I'm going
04:17 - 04:19
to continue to carry on her legacy, so I'm really
04:19 - 04:21
thankful that we were able to do that discussion board
04:21 - 04:25
and I could share my experience off just my wife
04:25 - 04:27
and why I do things every day and watch through
04:27 - 04:31
it. As I mentioned earlier, this class has helped me
04:31 - 04:35
in so many ways, like coming into the issue.
04:35 - 04:36
I really didn't I didn't know much.
04:37 - 04:39
As I said earlier, I didn't know much about it
04:39 - 04:42
and just being in an environment with a bunch of
04:42 - 04:44
other students, hundreds of other students that are in the
04:44 - 04:47
same boat as me and from different situations, different places.
04:48 - 04:51
It was very comforting and I met.
04:51 - 04:53
I made a lot of new friendships I made.
04:53 - 04:55
I made a lot of people and although I haven't
04:55 - 04:57
met them face to face yet, it's Ah, it's a
04:58 - 05:00
blessing to know that there will be people that I'll
05:01 - 05:03
be able to interact with and be friends with, hopefully
05:03 - 05:07
for a lifetime after we get on campus and I
05:07 - 05:11
mean, I'm just really thankful for the opportunity that I
05:11 - 05:14
had to take this class because at first I didn't
05:14 - 05:15
think it was a class that I would need.
05:15 - 05:19
But when I when I just kept going through it.
05:19 - 05:22
I was like, Yeah, this is I actually didn't need
05:22 - 05:26
this. No matter how you know, it seems, lastly, I
05:27 - 05:28
would just like to say thank you for everything.
05:29 - 05:34
Everything like, um, I really appreciate it honestly, Beyond measures
05:34 - 05:37
like I went through a lot this year and Cove,
05:37 - 05:40
it didn't make it any easier for me as well
05:40 - 05:41
as it did for anybody else.
05:41 - 05:45
And I'm thankful that I had a group of professors
05:46 - 05:49
and a group of students and friends that were able
05:49 - 05:50
to help me just get through the semester.
05:51 - 05:55
And I learned so much about the issue, and guys
05:55 - 05:57
really helped me.
05:57 - 06:01
And I'm very thankful for this course and how I'll
06:01 - 06:02
be able to implement it in my life, moving forward
06:03 - 06:06
not just in school but in life and becoming, uh,
06:08 - 06:09
a future teacher as well.
06:10 - 06:10
Thank you.
